I’ve seen this happening on a cruise ship. Over open water, birds have limited options for resting spots, especially in bad weather conditions. Exhausted from flying and with no land in sight their need for rest and safety outweighs their usual caution around humans.

Maybe smaller birds can't see prey coming because of the fog and maybe he landed on him because the boat was the first thing it saw , if I couldn't see land or other things coming at me I would want to land on the boat also. Idk how does that sound guys ?

Bird here: the reason we do this is because we wish to eat your eyes, we make you think that we are your friends then strike. The eyes eaten will help us see in the fog. Hope this clears things up!

Never grab the troll rods! Thats' just extra work. :). Hopefully you got in to some live bait action. I good deck hand not only lands your bait caught tuna, but puts on a new bait and tosses it over board laughing at you as a tuna inhales your bait. No rest for the tuna fisherman! Great stuff.
