Arizona Trail Race 800 - Katie’s 2023 Race
zhlédnutí 2,9KPřed 5 měsíci
A mostly singletrack route, the AZT 800 starts at Arizona’s border with Mexico and heads north to the border with Utah. The route crosses desert, mountains, and requires portaging across the Grand Canyon with your bike on your back. The biodiversity of the AZT and the sheer number of miles on singletrack makes this route a special one.

Wow!!!! Awesome. 😊
Congrats!
Thanks for sharing this video!
Sunrise Kokopelli AND sunrise bangs canyon descent! Nice timing. And yeah, I think we all were saved by Salt Creek. Awesome push out there!!
Those were definitely some great sunrise spots! Glad Salt Creek could save you too 😆
Fantastic, thanks for capturing some of it for us to see!
Awesome video!! Congrats on conquering this route!! 🙌
Thank you!! 😁
You did that on a single speed? Wow. I am so impressed. The despair at the end was very real. What a roller coaster.
watching from malaysia ❤
Not only do you crush your rides, but you also manage to film, and tell a great story! Very impressive.
What SS gearing is Andrew running? Always happy to see a video drop. Thanks
32x18, but a 20 would have been better for this route.
So very brave of you to be out there by yourself. Very impressive. You rock.
Please tell me where's the trail,, and where to start,,thanks 👍
Needles District, Canyonlands NP Utah
Where???
Katie - I just love your video and have shared it with a lot of friends. I'm doing the Divide in June and have some medical issues - you give me hope as you rocked it on a single speed. The pure, raw, reality that you captured on your ride is just epic!
Those are some mighty grand views! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome scenery
Probably the most honest TD video I’ve seen. Thanks for sharing
Thanks, Kevin!
Thanks for giving your accounts of the ride. Seemed like more bad weather than good. Nothing speaks of developing character better than when folks tackle adversity through biking. I, as many hopefuls, plan on doing this ride soon. Great information you've passed along that gives us all confidence enough to do this ride. Thanks again young lady. You are most definitely an inspiration.
Thanks! Best of luck when you ride the Divide too!
Incredible effort out there. Thanks for sharing the experience. I was bit too far behind you when I finished, so you were already asleep. Andrew and Connor were so kind to me with a hot chocolate and a quesadilla for me at the finish line. He let me sleep in the extra tent too. Very grateful to share this amazing course with you. Again, Congratulations!!! - Indy
Bummed I missed ya at the end! I’m glad Andrew and Connor could get you all set up! Congrats on your AZT too!
Wow sister! You did it! Woohoo!
That hike-a-bike looked wild!
You should sue for false advertising! Not a single chicken 😢
Great video! CB peddles are notorious for falling off after a service. What happens is that people usually over tighten the inner lock nut (something like 2Nm). I had this happen before with a pair of eggbeaters and one of the main reasons I want back to Shimano SPDs.
What an unbeleavable average of miles, elevetaion and speed per day - fantastic performance
So much awesome! Well done!!
One question, do you need to get your permit prior to showing up or can you just buy it when you get there? Thanks
You can get a permit online or at the visitor center
Thanks for the tour, I'll add that to my list of rides for the first week of May, 2024! Man I love the Moab area! Cheers
What an epic ride! There were a couple of lows, but seeing how exhausted you must have been both physically and mentally, that is some serious mental fortitude. You are one tough cookie. Well done Katie, what you did all on your own is amazing, you should be so proud of yourself..What an accomplishment! I am in awe of your tenacity. Best wishes from the UK😊
Good on ya 'woman! Steady eddy both body and mind. I'm inspired by you. Cheers!
Dang 19 days is solid!!
Wow, you did great!!!
Looks very interesting. I like the pouch on the front. What is the thought process behind having an inner and an outer bag, both with two roll closures?
Good question! Ease of packing, dry/wet packing, and protection for the inner bag. There's a more in-depth explanation here: dispersed.bike/product/handlebar-roll/
Love it, dude. Seems well thought-out.
Thanks Jake!
Andrew is the Yoda of "well thought-out"
😂
This looks pretty solid.
What a great adventure. Thanks for sharing. ❤
so stoked your doing handlebar bags now! I hope you have a micro seat bag in the works - the Revelate Shrew and I are no longer on speaking terms.
oh no i just got a shew after searching for a micro seat bag! What happened with yours?
Here is the video that includes the experience: czcams.com/video/C1b6lgybEsw/video.html. It wouldn't stay stable from left to right and I couldn't get it to stay high up on the seat rails so it was slipping down and rubbing on my thighs with each pedal stroke. This drives me crazy so I ditched it. I think at most i'll just go with something like a backcountry mutherload strap for a small item under the seat @@guychux
Same here! Would love a small stable seatbag ~4L for jackets/high frequency items. I haven't had any issues with my shrew so far but it's small. I'd definitely get whatever Andrew came up with.
i like that system i will be looking more at it when i get my bike!!1
So great!
Of all the amazing things about this, your attitude is the most impressive! Your super power? Inspirational!
What month did you start? Good video. Thx for sharing it.
I started in June with the Grand Depart 😁
thanks for sharing, beautiful route 3:53 what gear would you have run? hoping to get out there soon!
I actually don’t remember what gear I was running, but I think a 32x20 would be good for that route (as long as it’s an unloaded day ride).
@@dispersed.bikepacking thanks for the quick reply. happy trails!
Yeeeeeah Katie!! Amazing video and such a great-crazy-inspiring effort 💪
So awesome!! Thanks for sharing!!
What gearing did you go with for your SS?
The physical and mental toughness is truly astounding. Can't imagine a more difficult place to ride, let alone race.
Most of the time, the beauty overrides the discomfort on the AZT 😁 That being said, it’s probably the hardest route I’ve taken on and I definitely had to be mentally prepared!
Awesome racing Katie!
Thanks! 😊
You rock Katie!
Great video Katie! It brought back lots of memories! That last night on the Kaibab was really something else. 🥶🥶🥶 So grateful I got to hang with you and Andrew after! 🤙
It sure was! The temperature extremes were something else 😆 Hope to ride with you soon!
Just impressive! Wow! Way to go.
Such a badass effort! Congrats and thanks for capturing some of it!
Thanks, Mike!
Wow that was a great adventure. Thank you for taking the time to film and share it with us.
