    Yeah that stiff bolt is actually the only thing that stopped me from buying a savage for my kids. Handled at least 6 different rifles from 3 different stores. My one daughter couldn’t even operate it on her own it’s that sticky. The other one can, but with unnecessary difficulty. Even I, a grown man, dislike the feel of it so much I wouldn’t buy it. I don’t expect a butter smooth bolt for the price, but the level of stiffness is unacceptable at any price.

I'll stay with supersonic unless I get a can. 300 BLK is growing on me. I now use KAW dimple tools on all builds and they are very precise and easy to use. Now, I have to wait until they notify my local law enforcement agency and once they have confirmed receipt of the notice. I have to wait another 7 days before it's shipped. If I'm lucky I'll have it by Sep 1, 2024. 10 months after plopping down the purchase price. BLUF, if you want it quick don't use a trust.

    So I just bought the LX and Garmin xero to test side by side along my Magnetospeed which I already had. The LR app is great, you can connect via bluetooth. It auto connects once paired. It displays real time data and adjust settings in your phone along with arming and dis arming. The Garmin app doesn't do that it displays your log after shooting and you have to reconnect each time. My opinion is if you don't want to use your phone at the range they both work great, but if you rather arm dis arm etc in your larger phone screen that is where the Labradar LX excels. also because of taking your velocity 10 yds away I was getting about 10-15 fps lower on the lab radar with my 6.5 PRC than the other two which take the speed at the muzzle. I am thinking of selling the unit I like less. I am torn and still testing but because of construction and app function I am leaning towards keeping the LX. Last the screen is easier to read in lower light, but the Garmin is a little easier to scroll thru without the app.

      @thelonggunner762 Před 29 dny

      @1175drh I probably should have downloaded the app while I had the Labradar and used it too but I use my phone as a remote for my cameras and I can only connect to one thing at a time so I didn't bother. 🤷‍♂️

    I've had a much simpler break-in procedure for the past 40 years, lol. Buy the barrel, assemble the rifle or pistol, run an oiled patch through the barrel, run a dry patch through the barrel, sight it in then take it hunting. I don't assemble any of my AR platform rifles or pistols for shooting for pure accuracy, I use them to hunt hogs here in Texas. I'm not sure a break-in process is even necessary, but I know some barrel manufacturers suggest them. I may see it differently if I was shooting for ultimate accuracy but for hunting I'm not sure it makes enough difference. It seems that just shooting rounds through the barrel "seasons and polishes" it. I have had barrels that "settled down" in as few as 20 rounds, while others have taken 60 to 80. Thanks for the video.

  • @Accuracy1st
    @Accuracy1st Před měsícem

    25 years ago I spent considerable time at the range with each new rifle build because I did the shoot/clean each round x10 (sometimes 20 rounds), then clean every 3 rounds for another 12, then clean every 5 shots for about 3 groups. I was absolutely convinced new barrels needed a break-in process. Over time, I did more reading, more youtube, more calls to the various barrel makers. I then went through a phase where I compared 2 rifles, one with a break-in process, one without with handlapped cut-rifled and button barrels. Then I did this with factory Tikka rifles, 2 each. I no longer break in barrels. I found it doesn't do anything except waste time and solvent - especially good cut-rifled or button rifled hand lapped barrels. With Tikka barrels being hammer forged, they don't need it either. I took my new Tikka 6.5CM to the range today for the first time. Shot 30 rounds through it, round robin, factory ammo: norma whitetail, norma bondstrike, Rem core-lokt, Federal Terminal Ascent, Hornady ELDX, and Sellier & Bellot, 131, 140, and 156 grain. i cleaned the barrel before shooting it and used Iosso back and forth only at the throat, then examined with a borescope to ensure it was at bare metal. The only thing I do for sure with every new rifle is make sure it is clean to metal prior to shooting.

  • @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009

    I know your hand loads will do better. Question; why shoot the 73-75gns in a .223 @ 2,600fps, when your 6mm ARC will shoot the 80grs @2,900-3,000fps? For my rifles the 223/5.56 is designated 55-60gns only for the best speed plus accuracy for varmint hunting. Just asking because I see allot of 5.56 cal. videos shoot the 75gns.

    I don't do any break in, I just shoot it and clean when I'm done. I do run jb bore paste through it before I shoot it the first time. I don't think breaking in a barrel is a bad idea. I just don't think it matters that much. If there is no way to quantify or tell that a barrel is broken in, then how much difference is there in the end. Just my 2 cents. Nice AR!

    • @jamesdowns425
      @jamesdowns425 Před měsícem

      I zero within 10 rounds then shoot a 20 round group and track the velocity. afterward i go one caliber down on brush size from the bore size and use kroil soaked patch with a nylon brush that has blue jb bore paste on it and do 10 passes through the barrel, then back and forth action 10 times in the barrel. After that I do 10-15 patches with hoppes on them and then run a bore snake through the barrel that is soaked in hoppes. then I put 5 rounds down range to foul it again and then shoot another 10 round group. Works for me. I have 5 different barrels i have used the process on and they all still shoot sub moa. But they have been abused so it surprises me they shoot as good as they do. 2 of them are criterion 6.5 creedmoor barrels, one is my Delta 5 pro, the other is a white oak armament SPR barrel. I think the JB Bore paste technique works extremely well as long as you don't go crazy with a steel brush.
