2:58 I started working as a prison locksmith and the guys before me, who trained me, didn't show me the right way to master pin these. They didn't know. They told me just to use traditional master pinning in order to make it turn. When I encountered one that was meant to be mastered, and had the time to mess with it, I figured it out. Built the change pins according to the original change key, then stacked the master ring on and built the master pins using the master original key. Tolerances are a little fidgety working with old locks, but the end result is worth it for the extra security.

I'M NOT QUITE CERTAIN IF I CAN ASK A QUESTION, OR IF THIS IS STRICTLY FOR COMMENTS... IF COMMENTS IS ALL: I AM A 13 YEAR DETENTION VETERAN, 1SGT, FOR THE BRUNSWICK COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE. IN MY YEARS I HAVE MADE IT A POINT TO LEARN PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING I NEED TO KNOW TO FIX THINGS ON THE FLY, INSTEAD OF HAVING TO BOTHER AND WAIT FOR COUNTY MAINTENANCE... INCLUDING ALL THE LOCKS. WE USE THE ASSA BRAND, MOSTLY THE MOGULS... I AM COMPLETELY SELF TAUGHT AND HAVE SUCCESSFULLY FIXED, I'VE DISASSEMBLED AND REBUILT THE CYLINDERS... EVEN MADE MY OWN LITTLE TOOL TO SLIDE THE CYLINDER PLUGS OUT... REPAIRED EVERY POSSIBLE LOCK PROBLEM I'VE COME ACROSS... UNTIL NOW... THAT IS WHERE THE POSSIBLE QUESTION COMES IN IF ALLOWED... WE HAD A KEY BREAK OFF IN A CYLINDER. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES AND IT'S NEVER BEEN AN ISSUE GETTING THE BROKEN PIECES OUT. BUT JUST RECENTLY, SOMETHING EXTRA HAPPENED WITH IT... WHEN I REMOVED THE BROKEN PIECE OF KEY... I PUT MY MASTER KEY IN AND THE CYLINDER WOULD NOT TURN... I LOOKED AND PLAYED WITH IT TRYING TO FIND OUT WHY... MY THOUGHTS WERE THAT IT SEEMED LIKE A PIN WAS MISSING OR BENT OR SOMETHING, BUT THE CYLINDER WAS NEVER REMOVED SO I DIDN'T SEE HOW THAT WAS POSSIBLE. HOWEVER, AFTER TINKERING WITH IT FOR OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF, I NOTICED THAT AS I WAS MANEUVERING THE WHOLE LOCK PLATE AROUND, I COULD HERE A VERY FAINT TICK OR RATTLE EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE... SO I STARTED LOOKING MORE CLOSELY AND LOW AND BEHOLD, MY INITIAL SUSPICIOUS GUESS WAS SPOT ON... A TINY PIN HAD SOMEHOW COME LOOSE AND JUST RATTLING AND ROLLING AROUND INSIDE THE MECHANISM... NOW, I'VE SUCCESSFULLY REMOVED THE CYLINDER PLUGS NUMEROUS TIMES AND REPLACED THE PINS WITH THE LOCKS WORKING PERFECT AFTERWARDS... SO MY THOUGHT IS TO JUST REMOVE THE CYLINDER PLUG AND REPLACE THE PIN WHEREVER IT GOES... BUT... WITH THE PIN NOT IN PLACE, THE KEY WILL NOT TURN... I'VE TRIED AND TRIED! BECAUSE IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE CYLINDER PLUG, THE KEY MUST BE INSERTED INTO THE CYLINDER WITH ALL THE PINS IN PROPER ALIGNMENT IN ORDER THE REMOVE THE CYLINDER PLUG... SO, ALL THAT BEING SAID... (AND IF ANYONE ACTUALLY TOOK THE TIME TO READ IT ALL... THANK YOU), IF I AM ALLOWED TO ASK A QUESTION... IT IS THIS: HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE CYLINDER PLUG TO REPLACE THE PIN, IF YOU CAN'T GET THE KEY TO TURN BECAUSE A PIN IS MISSING? THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME... APPRECIATIVELY, 1SGT G. B'MER
