    This was so clearly presented, and exactly what I needed, converting all of our HotDocs estate planning templates from WordPerfect to Word. Thank you!

    Hello, Tom, thanks for this. If i were to go to "Article 2", how would I proceed in the same document?

    • @tompeers53
      @tompeers53 Před rokem

      Hi. Well, I don't really understand your question because once you create these 'styles', then where you want Article 2 you put your cursor there and go up to 'styles' and click that appropriate Article style.

      @@tompeers53 for example of I wanted "chapter one" ..not "chapter 1" , but the next sub heading to be 1.1, then 1.2 and so on. After wards "chapter two" not "chapter 2", with the next being 2.1, 2.2 and so on, how would it go?

    Styles should pre-exist before setting up numberirg.

    • @tompeers53
      @tompeers53 Před 2 lety

      No, actually as you set up the numbered list first, and as you do, each level BECOMES a style at that point.

      You can take the styles you just created and copy them into ALL new/blank documents (if that's what you're asking about). Here's how: In the "Styles" section of the Home ribbon, click the little arrow on the bottom right hand corner to bring up the list of styles box. On the bottom, click the button with an A with a check mark which is left of the "Options," the "Manage Styles" button. On the bottom left, click the "Import/Export" button. In the list you see on the left, select/highlight the styles you just created and then click the "Copy" button in the top center. This moves those selected styles to your normal Word template. Click "Close" and save. Now those styles will be available for all new documents.

    Hi, Tom, thanks for the video. Why you did not link level 2 to level 1 and so on? And, with the system you showed us, can you generate a table o contents? Thank you

    • @tompeers53
      @tompeers53 Před 3 lety

      Level 2 pings off of Level 1. Midway down, "Restart list after" - you'll see linked to Level 1. As to table of contents, I've never done a table of contents in a legal document. Our law office doesn't require it. However, you can give that a try in MS Word. On your top menu, click "References" - and then on the left you'll see 'Table of Contents,' where you can insert & format a table of contents.

    Good tutorial, and I did learn about legal style numbering, but it didn't solve my problem. In my document Article is numbered in roman numerals (I, II, III). When I check Level 1, I get I.1. How do I resolve that?

    • @tompeers53
      @tompeers53 Před 4 lety

      Usually the Article in a legal document like a Will would read "Article I" where "I" is a Roman numeral. But that level would NOT require legal style numbering. Only the level UNDER the Article level would use 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and so on. The Article level should not be checked for legal style numbering.

    • @tompeers53
      @tompeers53 Před 4 lety

      Just to be clear, you're not putting the a) on a separate line right? You're putting the a) immediately right of the 1. on the same line. Do I have that right?

    • @tompeers53
      @tompeers53 Před 4 lety

      The reason I'm asking is because I notice the b) and c) are NOT located right next to the the number 1.

    • @tompeers53
      @tompeers53 Před 4 lety

      Not sure what you mean when you say 'level 2 becomes black.' But … on the level 2 style box up in the style gallery, right-click on that style, click on "Modify," then bottom left click on "Format," and then "Font," and you should be able to modify and correct the style any way you want.

    Hi Tom, thanks for the tutorial. I found it very usefull. But after I modify the Multilevel List, when trying to add a table of contents, Word is not recognizing the modified styles in use. Do you know why could this happen? thank you

    • @tompeers53
      @tompeers53 Před 5 lety

      Frankly, I don't know because we don't have table of contents in our Wills or Powers of Attorney. I know you have to click "References" on your top menu and the on the left click "Table of Contents" to get things started, but beyond that, I just don't know because we don't use them. Sorry. On CZcams I'd search for Laura Leader (Law Office Solutions) to see if she has anything ... or ... contact her directly.

    Hi, sir I have a question in legal documents. When we trying to put the Article 1 level one with the subject example:" Article 1. Life Insurance Policy" how we gonna put that with the soft return. Please explain to me. Thank you

    • @tompeers53

      I would think just type a space after "Article 1" and then type "Life Insurance Policy" then a hard return.
