It should face down when planting.
the eye should face down. the eye is from where the root of the plant root would emerge.
Be careful with herbicides. I had a brother who grew watermelons for 20 yrs & who used roundup for weed control. It destroyed his soil biology and disease set in after 10 yrs. In the end he had to give up his farming and the new owner knew what the problem was and rejuvenated the soil using green manuring techniques. It took 3 yrs to do it.

Try to weed around the perimeter so that they know there is something valuable there. Also don't plant crops that attracts cows. Ugu does not really attract ciws

Just seeing this though. there is really no best seed. there are just different varieties which can do well if properly maintained well. for me, I use Basin

PLS, WHAT TYPES OF NPK ''fertilizer'' OF 15-15-15 THAT IS VERY GOOD FOR (UWGU) FLUTED PUMPKIN, OR ALL KIND OF 15-15-15 ARE THE SAME? THANKS!
Any fertilizer with 15-15-15 is the same but it's best for plants that produces mainly fruits. Though because it's a vegetable leaf plant, I'll prefer you feed the plant with only UREA fertilizer because it is predominantly Nitrogen which will make it grow very fast and give it greeny leaves.
Please if ugu seed is stored in the freezer will it still germinate when planted?
any good brand would just be fine. but be sure you're buying from a trusted company. there are really very horrible NPK 15:15:15 fertilizers out there.
