Syrian Wild Ass || Tales Of Forgotten
The Syrian wild ass (Equus hemionus hemippus), less commonly known as a hemippe, is an extinct subspecies of Onager native to the Arabian Peninsula.
It ranged across present-day Syria, Palestine, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
The Syrian wild ass, one meter high at its shoulder, was the smallest equine.
Its coloring changed with the seasons-a tawny olive coat for the summer months and pale sandy yellow for the winter.
It was known, like other Onagers, to be untamable, and was compared to a thoroughbred horse for its beauty and strength.
The bones of a Syrian wild ass have been identified at an 11,000 year-old archaeological site at Göbekli Tepe, Turkey.
Assyrian art from the 7th century BCE found at Nineveh includes a scene of hunters capturing Syrian wild asses with lassos.
The Syrian wild ass lived in deserts, semi deserts, arid grasslands and mountain steppes. It was a grazer and a browser. It fed on grass, herbs, leaves, shrubs, and tree branches.
Syrian wild asses were majorly preyed upon by Asiatic lions. Leopards, striped hyenas, grey wolves and Caspian tigers also fed on the Onagers. Asiatic cheetahs may have preyed on onager foals.
The last known wild specimen was fatally shot in 1927 at Al Ghams near the Azraq oasis in Jordan, and the last captive specimen died in 1928 at the Tiergarten Schönbrunn, in Vienna.
Although Syrian wild asses were not themselves domesticated, a significant breeding center at Tell Brak (inthird millennium BCE) produced a hybrid of the wild ass and the donkey, called the kunga, that was a draft animal of high economic and symbolic value to the elite of Syria and Mesopotamia.
In 1878, a Syrian wild ass was crossed with an Indian wild ass (a different subspecies). Some more hybrids were produced by the London Zoo in the late 19th century.
After the extinction of the Syrian wild ass, the Persian onager from Iran was chosen as an appropriate subspecies to repopulate the Middle East as a replacement for the extinct e. h. hemippus onagers.

Actually there is a good news the Javan tigers is likely still alive because in 2019 in Java people claimed that they saw a tiger and there was 1 orange hair left scientist took that hair and started to do research about it genetic testing from other Javan tiger in museums and confirmed that the hair indeed belong to a tiger so that confirms that till 2019 there was still at least one Javan tiger left but they took 5 years to announced so that's why we don't know is that Javan tiger still alive that throw a hair or not but it's likely that they still exist

@ExtinctionTalesOfForgotten1, changing scientific names is actually both true and widely accepted, hence the reason why there are new genera, in fact, many genera are now being rendered as polyphyletic, especially because of how different they look superficially from one another, in fact, many mammalian genera are being heavily reduced due to their polyphyly, which is why the Canis genus for example is being rendered as polyphyletic multiple times, the genus is now restricted to only the grey wolf and extant species that used to be conspecific with it, whereas those that were never ever conspecific with it are now removed from the Canis genus, even a majority of extinct dog species are also being removed from the Canis genus.

It has so many endangered animals and the sad thing is that the country is full of polluted rivers ,cities, poor urbanisation, poor people with poor lifestyle even though they have an amazing culture. And the most developed countries aren't that diverse in nature aspects.
