Gads, Stan was only 60 years old when this was made. He looks ancient! Life on the road, multiple successes and failures, and booze really took a toll on him. Right now, I'm 69 and look younger than he does here. YOu left us too soon, Stan!

I had an "in" to Stan Kenton as a froiend of the family was good friends with Stan. I had hoped to use that "in" to get an audition with Kenton. Alas, he passed the year before I graduated from college (music major).

Building on the original, as improvisers of this magnitude did quite well. Paul is as lyrical as ever; Gerry's baritone is a welcome addition; Dave negotiating the 5/4 time is a treat; Jack holding down the beat as did Senator Wright did in the DBQ glory days; and Alan taking the drum "torch" from Joe and running with it in a way that must have even made the great rock drummers of that day take notice.

Finally a drummer who can play the right groove to this song. It’s a rare thing.

I flew over from Mindanao,Phillipines for a Genesis tribute band month last October where I saw a number of bands including Regenesis twice at Southampton and Shepherd's Bush,London. I know Doug,Nigel and Tony quite well !! Shame we won't see them again🙁🙁

I live in the UK and started playing trumpet and flugelhorn in the mid 70'. I saw Mr Kenton and his orchestra play and was completely hooked. I wanted to go to the USA to his summer school but it was a bit beyond my parents reach then. He was a real influence.

I was a trumpet and flugelhorn player starting as a 9 yr old in 1970. I saw Mr Kenton and his orchestra in the mid 70's and it blew me away (excuse the pun) . He put the trumpet players in with the audience for Peanut Vendor - incredible. My inspiration.

I only found out just today in July of 24' who Stan Kenton was by reading a Wiki page on 'Progressive Jazz' to get a better understanding and his name was mentioned as one of the Pioneers of Progressive Jazz. First time I ever heard of the track "The Peanut Vendor' was on the Fania All Stars 'Machine' album. Peace from the SF Bay Area Cali.

I'm 66 now, ans have followed the Kenton orchestra ever since I was about 18. I have most odf his charts right from the swinging 1940's up to his later years , playing Chicago Three suite and more besides. I wonder how many of his group went on to form there own top bands beside Maynard Ferguson. Sadly, I never got to see his orchestra live, and indeed, was only 14 when this concert was performed (my parents thought that Miller was the only one that swung, little did they know). I did however get to see a number of his charts played live by top Drum & Bugle Corps, like the Blue Devils. My favourite is La suerte de los tontos.

Kenny Driscoll, a voice one in a million! It's a crying shame that Lone Star never made it big. I can only imagine what a premium act they would have been had they stayed together. One can but dream.

Saw them in the 70's in a triple bill at City Halls, Glasgow, with Randy Pie and A Band Called O. It was a brilliant night.
