Fun to see you guys out again for an overnight! That spring was bone dry, lol, nice of Delmar to get some water! Pretty green still, nice trails… great mushroom…I saw a bunch like that last week with those circles!! 👌🌳🌳 Have a great day Jim! 😄
It was Delmars' turn to go get water, lol. Leaves are starting to turn now though,a little early than usual. Thanks Jen!

There were big backpacks on show there and must have been some strong wind to blow over that information board. Looked a good place to pitch camp and may have only been 4 miles in but with a big camping pack, a long 4 miles. Looked a better day on the second day but great that you got a rain free camp, cheers Alan
My pack weighed 22 pounds and his weighed over 40. 4 miles is alot for me these days for sure with my bum hip and shoulder plus I'm not as young as I use to be,lol. Thanks Alan!
Sweet little over nighter! Thanks for ripping me on the trail with you. Water levels look low your way...nice campsite!
Yeah,it's pretty dry around here right now. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Jim, I’ve been seeing your name pop up on a few different channels here on YT. Ages Adventures has mentioned you a lot. Also, more recently was Hiking Outdoor Family. I’ve been following them for a while. We actually met at a CZcams collaboration in PA back in June. Thanks for showing us around. Nice hike through the woods. Day 2 looked just as nice. I liked and subscribed. 👍20
Well, thank you very much for stopping by! I'll go and check out your channel my friend. Have a great day!
Beautiful nature, forest, hike... Video 👍
Thank you very much!
@@JimHayesHiking You're welcome friend 🙂
Hi Jim. Thanks for such an enjoyable and relaxing walk in the NRA. Another example of how you take a small section of the Creation and show us the beautiful details. No one does it better. God Bless to you and your family (hoping for healing for your wife).
Thank you my friend,I greatly appreciate all of your kind words. I hope you have a blessed week!
It looked like another enjoyable overnight hiking trip, Jim. Sir Charles seemed to prefer hitching a ride this time out. 😅 Thanks for sharing have a great week.
Charlie is getting old like me and needs all the help he can get, lol. Thanks as always my friend!
I haven't watched a lot of YT recently, but you can count on me to be a loyal follower. Take care, Jim.
Thanks a bunch my friend! Have a great week.
Fun backpacking trip Jim! Nice camp and campfire! :) take care my friend.
Thanks Alex! Have a great week!
Yes that’s perfect hiking/backpacking weather. It’s starting to cool off enough here to be able to get out and enjoy it without getting soaking wet from sweating. I’ve used streams for coolers many times. I’ve put full packs of hotdogs under rocks as well as cooling off my drinks. Nature does provide. Beautiful country up there. I would really like to experience the high country when the azaleas are in bloom. Take care and stay safe my friend.
it's only been getting cool in the higher elevations for now but hopefully soon it'll hit the lower regions as well.I have used creeks for fridges for years. You're going to have to get up here someday and do some hiking with us. Thanks my friend,I appreciate it.
Thanks for the mention, Jim! You got me with your no-nonsense “REVIEW” video lol. At that moment I knew ill be following you.
Lol,thanks so much! Have a wonderful weekend!
I don’t pay much attention to trail reviews either, for exactly the same reason you spoke of. I guess some people expect a clear trail from start to finish. Nature doesn’t work like that. You know I love the old homesites. I could sit down and take that one in for hours. A lot of life happened right there. They had each other to help make it through the good times and the hard times. Not very many families work like that nowadays. Another great hike Jim. It’s good to see Delmar and Charlie out with you. Great friends = great times. Take care my friend.
Yeah,we've been coming across some very interesting things lately. Thanks as always my friend!
Nice lookin' hike for sure 👍👍
Thanks!
Indeed, your waterway there really is way done! I'm sure with the rain we had today our little river is more than likely raging good...but it dries out more quickly than normal. When I'd be driving through on #94, #90/#80 and then north on #96, I actually really enjoyed listening to NPR. Even for being dry it seems that most is keeping pretty green and you did have quite a good supply of wood for that nice fire! Another awesome overnighter!!
We had some water up and until when we needed it,lol. I use to also listen to NPR but now it's too liberal for my taste. Thanks as always Bruce!
Very Nice hike. Thanks for taking us on the journey!
Thanks for coming along,I appreciate it!
Thank you for the shout out. Much appreciated. I agree with you, having loyal followers who comment and support you is success on CZcams. Is it normal for that spring to be dry this time of year? In Pennsylvania area, its been a very dry summer.
No,it's not the norm for it to be dry but we too have had a very dry summer. You're very welcome for the shout out,I just got back from a backpacking trip and see I have a couple of your videos to watch as well. Thanks for watching!
It's pretty beautiful out there, Jim😍 Great camping spot and the hiking looked great there😁 I hope you're having an awesome weekend😀
It's a really nice area for hiking. Thanks Age!
Very nice hike and camp in the Woods ❤ 👍 I also appreciate very much the regularity of your hiking videos
Thank you Roni! I mentioned you in my next video.
@@JimHayesHiking Thank you very much Jim
Good video Jim
Thanks Hank!
That looked like a great trip, Jim. The scenery was beautiful and the weather as about perfect.
It was great weather except just a tad chilly of the night. Thanks John!
Another good one! I had no idea there were cows roaming up there too!
Yep,I first saw them about ten years ago. Thanks Joe!
Enjoyed your video of whitetop. I was wondering if you are allowed to camp up there or have to have a permit. Someone told me you were not allowed to. Just wondering. Thanks
Yes, you can camp there.
Good thing there was bridge there at the beginning. 😆 Really nice loop trail! Great channel shout outs! 💞 Yeah, some of those trail reviews are messed up. We like a little bit of an adventure! No Keebler Elves today. Just Delmar and Sir Charles peeking through a tree. 🤣 Interesting information about the Hedrick family.
Yeah,it would have been terrible to wade across all of those rocks, lol! No elves was disappointing for sure. I love coming up on old homesites like that and knowing a bit of its history. Thanks so much!
Very nice hike and camp greetings from Africa Uganda

Perfect weather for your trip! Fun to see Sir Charles bringing up the rear! Congratulations to you and your daughter on her 40th!! 🎉🎉 Great shout-outs, we enjoy the Wulfs, great people and beautiful hiking in SD and more. Nice seeing the map and the trail conditions this time of year… and a nice camping spot for sure! Have a great week Jim and Delmar! 👌😄 Jen
It was very nice weather but did get a little cold that night. I don't know how a man that's as young as me can have a kid 40 years old, lol! We loved the campsite. Thanks Jen! Have a great week.
@@JimHayesHiking 😂 Seems like fall with the cooler nights!
Beautiful trail and great backpacking weather for sure (minus the chilliness at night). ❤ Hi to Chris Daniel! Nice you could meet him. Happy Birthday to your daughter! Wish we could get to our campsites by 4 pm, but it's always like 7 pm or later. 😂 Interesting about The Scales. 🐄🐮 Awesome campsite! Nice and private! Spacious, too! 🏕🔥 There's another one in the books! Great video! Thanks again for the channel shout out! Much appreciated! 🙏🏻
It was great weather. I never did hear from Mr. Daniel but he was a very nice man. I had to cut back on the mileage in order to get to camp by a decent hour. You're very welcome for the shout out and I thank you for your support! Have a blessed week.
No need for a bridge over that creek! I did not see any sisters either. Great shout outs of some awesome people. Cool see through tree. Interesting history there. People sure lived with a lot less than. Impressive. Nice hike. Viva CZ! Have a great day.
Yep,the creek was pretty dried up as alot of them around here are right now. I never was able to find out how the trail got it's name. People lived simpler yet better lives back then I think. Thanks Steve...and Viva CZ to you as well!
Thanks for sharing.. Returning Support with Full View and like.. When my family would visit the Banner Elk area, this would be our trail to get on.. Good workout and great views at the overlooks..
Thanks for stopping by,I greatly appreciate it!
well done . . . thumbs up 👍🍀🔥
Thanks!
Nice to get back out with a friend and his dog again and a good days hiking in dam fine weather as well. On a warm day that forest shade must have given you some shade and agree with you 100% about negativity some people give on a trail review. WOW 16 children, suppose there was not a great deal to do on a night in those days..Noticed your two channel shout outs and both channels I follow too, cheers Alan
Yeah,Delmar and I are approaching our 200th hike together,we should reach that milestone before the year is out. We had almost perfect weather for this one and only got hot while having to hike the highway portion of the loop. The man had 16 kids with his first wife and another 5 with his second wife. Thanks for stopping by!
Wow cool weather! In BSF, we occasionally hike horse trails. We affectionately call them the poop trails.
The Virginia Highlands Horse Trail is in remarkably good shape for a horse trail. Thanks Kerry.
Great trail and shout-outs Jim! Nice campsite and weather too. Thanks for sharing your hike with us :)
Thanks Alex! Have a great weekend my friend.
Hi Jim. I continue to be thankful I found your fine channel - appreciate what you do for the hiking community. RE: Longhorn Cattle Funny story - I was doing another day hike from Massie Gap to the top of Mt. Rogers (and back). As I was about to leave Wilburn Ridge and descend to Rhododendron Gap, I looked down (expecting to maybe see some mountain ponies), and saw several longhorn cattle! This was several years ago and that was the first time I'd seen them in this area. I joked with my hiking buddy: "Hey Jim - looks liked we've hiked too far west (into Texas)!" 🙂 Look forward to your next video. Thank you Brother!!
Yes,I remember the first time I came across one of them, totally shocked me,lol. I still get more of a thrill seeing them than the ponies. Thanks my friend,I greatly appreciate your support and i will be shouting out your channel soon!
Did that guy ever find your channel? Happy Birthday to Amanda🎂 That gate needs a little oil🛢 Smart of the farmers to create the exchange up there😀 This is a great hike😁 I hope you have an awesome weekend, Jim😊
No,he hasn't commented on anything as of yet but I didn't think he would, most folks say they will but very few ever do.Yep the gate was a little loud, lol. We had great weather both days. Thanks Age! I hope you're weekend is a good one.
Here you are getting in all these overnighters this season and I wasn't able to get out once...how sad is that! lol Oh well, had some pretty compelling reasons, so all is good. Those are some great sized boulders for sure! Someone please grease that gate!! lol Did sound like you had a lovely breeze...always welcomed especially to help keep the bugs down. Ending the day with a great campfire...excellent! Sure did pick yourself a couple of big blue sky days! Pretty awesome in my books!
There's still time for you to get out hopefully Bruce. The gate was just a little loud, lol. The campsite was one of the best I've ever stayed at. Thanks my friend!
You know I love it up in the high country. Thanks for sharing. I camped up there once when the low was supposed to be near 40, woke up covered in snow and ice. I went from that back to sunny and warmer on the hike back down to Fox creek and the car.
Yep,weather can change on a dime up there. Thanks for watching!
So did you see any fox? Or is that not the reason they named it that? Ii love interacting on the trail with other hikers 👏 Happy 40 Mandy 🎉
Nope, didn't see any foxes and not sure if that's how it got its name. Yeah, sometimes you do actually run in to a nice person on the trail. Thanks for watching!
Great Hiking video. Thanks for sharing!👍
Thanks for stopping by!
Great video, Jim. I watch the Wandering Wulfs as well, good channel. Happy birthday to your daughter! That looked like a great place to camp and a scenic hike overall. Cheers. Daryl
Hi Daryl, yeah the campsite was one of the best ones I'd ever stayed at. I like the Wulfs as well. Thank you my friend,I greatly appreciate your support!
Thank you, Daryl! ❤ We love your channel as well! 😊
Perfect hiking weather for sure. Cooling the drinks off in the creek, great tip.
Yep,the weather was great and the drinks were cold, lol. Thanks John,I hope all is well with you my friend.
Very nice hike and camp ❤👍 Great to see little Charles, he is so cute.
Thanks Roni! Have a great weekend.
The conditions really seem ideal for backpacking. When you met people on the trail and you tell them about your CZcams channel, do they usually end up following? Loved the area you camped at and smart idea to cool your drinks in the creek.
Yes,it was perfect weather for backpacking. I would say it's about 50/50 on folks I meet out on the trail as to whether or not they follow me,sometimes I'll run up on someone who knows who I am and they say they follow me even though they never comment on a video. The drinks were kept super cool! Thanks for watching,I do appreciate it!
Nice that you were able to get out and enjoy those kinds of temps! Those areas that you have to enter with the cows always get my anxiety going! We had some in that area once that followed (and by followed, I mean, kind of chased) us a bit down the trail!
Great hiking weather for sure. The cow actually got spooked by Charlie when he started barking at it,lol! Thanks for stopping by and have a great Labor Day weekend!
High of 58 and low of 40s that's perfect backpacking and camping weather. Always love your peaceful hikes. Have fun and take care
it was awesome weather for sure! I appreciate your support and I gave your channel a shout out in the next weeks video. Have a great weekend!
Thanks so much for the channel shout out, Jim! We're still out and about on our big trip in the mountains of Wyoming, so we don't have too much cell signal right now. We'll be catching up on your videos when we get back home to South Dakota in a few days! ❤ Take care! 😊
You're very welcome! I hope you're having an awesome time.

Lol! Thanks Daryl, have a great day my friend.
Thanks so much Jim for the Channel Shout Out!! You are correct sir - we are from PA but travel all over when we can! We can't express our gratitude enough for the shout out! We are huge fans of Jim Hayes Hiking Channel as well! Interesting what you said about the "strolling" - we have learned to not depend too much on reviews - everyone like different things - and we agree - a hike is not a hike in our book unless there is some difficult areas - otherwise - we call that a walk - hahahaha. Happy Hiking to you sir! Thanks for taking us all along as you put "another one in the books" ~Karen & Shannon WOY
You're very welcome for the shout out,I have really enjoyed watching y'all for a long time, keep up the good work! Thanks for following me as well.
