@@johnmacom3208 it was interesting
Is this saltwater??
@@brandonhopewell1988 I believe it's brackish water
Awesome video! The anticipation was crazy. I guess you could say….I was hooked! 😏
Haha thank you. I like fish puns. Let minnow if you subscribed to my channel!
Ummm where’s the bass!
@geraldproctor1306 its a white bass 🙃
Every fisherman's favorite sound line being ripped out, tells you got something big
I agree. I hadn't had one do that for a while on that setup. Last fish to do it was a 44 in muskie 😃
That is such a beautiful lake. Those step rock sides look like they hold a ton of fish though.
They definitely do. This time of year it's absolutely my favorite place to fish.
Good job one big fish
Thanks brother man!
Dang bro that's impressive
Thanks man 😃
And no invite again
😢😢😢
@@thesaltygoogan lol never been to that lake it’s usually Ohio river, poppin rock, wolf creek or Boonsboro
@@bushwhookie1334 you'll have to make a trip 🙏
Hey man, it's the feller that ask to fish in y'all's bucket a few years ago at cave run spillway... Pretty sure you won't remember lol. Just want to let you know you're the reason I started crappie fishing the spill way. The lake and upper river are great but when it comes to the lower river crappie the spillway is were it's at. Hope I see you there again sometime maybe I won't be nervous about meeting a CZcamsr I watch so much and can thank you for your insight and service in person.
Funny you said bass. My biggest one i thought wth kinda bass is that. Took me a min to figure out what i had caught.
They really do look like a spotted bass kinda when you get them close.
why go fish and not keep crappie like that. I'll never understand fishing just to throw them back
I'm not keeping them out of that river. I will from my lake or river but not the kanawha. Too full of chemicals and pfas. I also fished all day that day for all species and was not set up to keep anything.
@thesaltygoogan ok I get that cause I won't eat fish from the Mississippi River especially after the water treatment plant
Most people fish for sport 🤷♂️
@why-even-try-brotendo sorry I just think that's stupid. I only hunt or fish to eat which is how it should be period.
@@huskyboystv1806 congrats! You now know what "anecdotal evidence" is! 😅
Had the privilege of fishing the lake the very first day it was officially opened back in 1974. The trees were fully leafed out and it was a wild looking place for sure. We used to fish the Licking River and Beaver Creek before they were impounded and both had fantastic fishing, especially Beaver with its A+ smallmouth and red eye fishing. Lots of huge musky hung out there too and a few guys around fished exclusively for them. Cave Runs fishing flew under the radar for many years but not anymore…it gets pretty crowded and tons of fishing pressure now and you can certainly tell that by the size of the fish caught now. There’s still a fair amount of good fish but nothing like it use to be. If you come to just relax and enjoy the water you need to stay down on the main lake where it’s clear of submerged timber. The upper reaches are all full of $prop and $$lower unit gotchas and believe me, they will get you if you venture into those areas.
What an incredible feeling that must have been to get to fish the lake in its infancy. I really appreciate you sharing this history. I would have loved to have fished it back then and see all you are talking about 🙏
Pound for pound i think channels fight the hardest of all catfish species
They definitely are voracious
Great job
Thanks man
Just found your videos a couple days ago and did not realize fishing was this good in Kentucky. Me and a couple friends are heading to the Cave Run area at the end of the month, you have any advice you’d share on how we might get a Muskie or something big while we’re there?
I am glad you found my channel and hope you enjoy it 🙏 as for fishing there are several opportunities for big fish, and they can be caught this time of year you just have to be flexible. I would say fish at night. I would hit the spillway at night with lipless cranks or Colorado blade spinnerbaits. Or do the same on the dam at night and add topwater or jig/swim baits swimming deep. Texas rig or jigs in the river can land you some nice muskie. Pitch around timber and drag on bottom. Or vary the speed and retrieve until you see one. I hope you subscribe so you can follow along out there!
That carp that your buddy caught is actually a bigmouth buffalo carp so a relative of the smallmouth buffalo.
Thank you for the fish id!! We were wondering, as there were tons down there!
Great job keep up the good work
Will do brother
Nice bro I'll sub
Thank you 😊
i love that dam! i’m glad you came back

Thanks buddy
Nice. Beautiful fish. Glad your buddy was successful too!
Thank you 😊
You can replicate a fish any time. If you don’t have the measurements that’s fine, send them pictures and they can do rough estimates. That’s what make replicas better, they last longer, can make them whenever, I believe cheaper, and not to mention you can make multiple
I agree. I have a replica being made right now of my 51.5 from this spring!
Zoom finesse watermelon seed on a 3/16 Shakey head. My go to walleye and sauger artificial.
Shakey head for walters...nice 🙏 I've had luck here and there as a by-catch in my local river like that
@thesaltygoogan , I specifically use the screw lok shakey because with all the trees and trash in the river. Rigged weedless it's hard to lose one.
@leslieanderson2074 those spot removers are good ones for that. I grt hung up a lot if I don't rig fully weed less and just skin hook
Nice catch!
Thank you
What time of year was this trip Cameron?
I believe it was early may or late april
Wheelersburg?
Ashland bridges
What lake and bank area if you can provide it?
Below cave run lake
Where is the location of this bank
Cave run lake
What exactly is a needle dam?
To my understanding, it refers to the wooden slats or boards that they can add or remove from the dam itself, which let's more or less water through depending on what they needed the flow to be.
Id throw a brim on a number 8 hook with a 6oz Link sinker to the bottom on a tight line to catch a 50+ lb blue cat
I hear there are big ones there
Panther martin or a Tiny (1" ) rattle trap.
The old super spot
Green pumpkin Gary Yamamoto super grub on a 1/8oz orange jig head
Solid choice
Are you like the muskie king
I wish brother 😪
Mabey just a plain old night crawler
Seen several channels and drum caught that day on those
Your not in Paul's spot are you
Actually I am lol I talked to him about fishing it
@@thesaltygoogan as long as he knows. He has pulled out some giants
Today we saw a muskey HUGE it was the biggest fish i have ever seen
Nice. Where at?
They like to go after the drum fish and white bass where I am, so this makes sense.
Where you from?
do you know if they shaved off or removed any of the ligaments that hold the biceps maybe its on your surgical report?
I know they shaved off part of my humerus I believe. No ligaments though, I'm pretty sure. I'm doing an update vid at some point. Had a very good recovery and back to lifting and fishing again. Nerve-wracking when I did the surgery but so glad I did and it wasn't that bad at all!
Lordy - sitting here in 95+ degree weather watching you in cold!! Love it - great video - keep them coming!
