    Nice flying and with the new setup the plane seems to have unlimited vertical. What prop are you using with the 4S? and does the stock motor support 4S?

    • @frankflyrc
      @frankflyrc Před 26 dny

      Thank you much! The extra power allows this model to cruise around at around 40 - 50% throttle and pretty much has unlimited vertical. The motor and prop are stock. I think the stock esc can handle 4S, but I changed it out just for a little extra peace of mind.

      @@frankflyrc I bought the 1700mm and my ESC (stock 45A FMS predator) caught fire after a totally normal flight. It did happen while the plane was upside down, but I also inverted it in the air. Might get a spektrum avian 45amp to replace it. How did you get in there to the ESC? Don't have easy access in mine...

    • @frankflyrc
      @frankflyrc Před 18 dny

      @@misaelramos83 That sucks your ESC caught fire! The ZTW ESC 45A ESC I replaced the stock 40A one with is only slightly larger. The cowl and motor needed to be removed to access the ESC to change it out. Hopefully your upgraded ESC will work without issue.

    • @frankflyrc
      @frankflyrc Před 28 dny

      Congratulations on your new bird! A 1300 mah battery might be too light and it may be on the tail-heavy side. I would like to put at least a 3s 2400 battery in to get a better balance on the CG. Best of luck to you on your maiden!

    Hi Frank! I've been watching all your videos because I just picked up one of these used and I'm afraid to maiden until I can get the CG right... Any chance you can give me an idea on where to put a 3200 to get this thing to fly right? The sticker in the compartment wants it just in front of the servos, but it could be pushed all the way into the nose as well...? Did you end up having to add any weight? Hoping you can remember after 5 years!😂

    • @frankflyrc
      @frankflyrc Před měsícem

      Greetings EastCoastLtd! I believe the CG was placed a little further forward than factory. I'm pretty certain I was using Admiral 4000 batteries. The 3200 you have is probably a good deal lighter, and would need to be placed further forward. I don't remember adding additional weight. I would start with the CG a little more forward, and move it back if you feel it's too nose-heavy. Best of luck on your maiden, and many happy landings to follow!

      @frankflyrc Před měsícem

      Haha! Can't disagree! Gears are on a pretty narrow track! My timer's set to 4:45. I also don't do extended times of max throttle on the regular. I generally come down around 3.7 - 3.75 volts per cell.

    What was your previous set up in the f-22? Do you notice more thrust with the new motor and fan?

    • @frankflyrc
      @frankflyrc Před měsícem

      The original motor was the 9-blade one this model was sold with. There is a noticeable increase in thrust with the newer 12-blade motor, especially when going vertical. But I can't tell any difference in top speed. Granted, I don't do many sustained max throttle runs.

      It's hard to compare the two F-14 models since the E-flite one is a twin 40mm and this one's a twin 64mm. Also, I don't have have experience with the E-flite model, as I've never owned that one. Not sure what your flying environment's like, but if you have a long runway and no space restrictions, I would go with this one, the Freewing twin 64mm.

    Hey bud, I want to repalce my nose gear spring. But it does not seem to come apart like others i have. Usually there is a screw that releases the piston so you can access the spring. I took the bottom plastic pieces off thinking that would do it. But nope. It can't just be the scissor link can it? Do i have to take the wheel axel bolt off to get in there, i guess?

    • @frankflyrc
      @frankflyrc Před měsícem

      Yes, that is correct. There is no screw holding the gear piston in place. You need to remove one of the C-clips. I removed the top one so the whole scissor link stays attached to the piston when it drops out.

    • @frankflyrc
      @frankflyrc Před měsícem

      Yeah, I'm trying to get some smoother landings. I haven't had one greaser, yet. But it does fly pretty good and stable. I hear what you're saying about the SAFE and AS3X, but I'm not familiar with those items as I don't use Spektrum and don't have a gyro/stabilizer on any of my fixed wing models. Since the gyro on this F-14 is built in to the control board, I used channel 8 on the receiver for the gyro and set the curve on the transmitter to -100 across all three positions on the switch the gyro is assigned to, effectively disabling it no matter what position that switch is in. With that being said, I do not have Reverse Thrust because that 8th channel on the RX (FrSky RX8R Pro) is being used for the gyro. Fortunately, I don't really need Reverse Thrust since I fly off grass. IMHO, the CG needs to be good (not on the tail-heavy side), but as neutral as possible using the CG markers on the fuse. I did my CG with the gears down, since all three gears retract in the forward direction, causing a minor forward shift of the CG when the gears go up. And the control surfaces need to be perfectly centered with each other mechanically. That can sometimes be tedious trying to manually center those. Hopefully, you get your F-14 squared away and it becomes more enjoyable to fly.

I want to tell you about this guy I found on YT his name is mach3rc and he said he never flown a rc plane before and landed a jet perfect not ever flying before. I questioned him on how he did it?? he is kinda of a clown and went from 430 subs to over 10,000 subs in one month and thats not usual. He wont tell me. what I found out is he isnt actually flying the plane he is holding the remote but its the guy that is flying with the camera. He is why this hobby and we are all doing our best and he is mocking us and he is a clown. Reason im telling you this is bc landing or even flying edf planes isnt easy at times and this bird isnt easy and I wanted to let you know your doing great and better than me and that clown who thinks he is funny isnt really flying his planes and the surge in subs is all bs but thats yt. Hold power up a bit and the elevator at the same time. Think.....High Alpha Landing. Keep the nose up by holding elevator, and power up, so it doesn't stall. You don't need much of either. Also, might help to mix in a little bit up Up elevator with the flaps.

      Very true! Flies very stable and is pretty predictable! But landing it has been a different story! It's been bouncing back in the air after touching down for me. I'll try to come in with more of a high alpha instead of trying to do the power off glide approach.

    Could it be that it was a bit fast to land.

    • @frankflyrc
      @frankflyrc Před měsícem

      Yeah, the speed was a factor, for sure! The nose over on the last flight caused a broken connector on the left wing, and bent vertical stab. Also stripped servo for that wing. Need to replace the servos for the wings.

      @@frankflyrc Things like that can happen. I've had to repair my F-14 a few times after bad landings. The F-14 flies as elegantly as an albatross, but unfortunately it also lands as badly as an albatross.

      Yes, one of the servos had to be reversed. I use the DPC-11 servo programmer from Hitec.

    What was wrong with original servo?

    • @frankflyrc
      @frankflyrc Před 2 měsíci

      Nothing's wrong with the original one. It's actually never been used. I just happened to have a spare HiTec (upgraded one, if you will) laying around from a prior model and swapped it out during the build. Normally, the elevator servo upgrades are for the EDFs I own that have the full flying stabs. If I didn't already have a spare, I would have left this one stock. Now the stock servo's become the spare one for this model.

    Clarification on what I said what the rates are. Aileron was adjusted to High 75%, Mid 60%, Low 50%. Elevator and Rudder: High 90%, Mid 75%, Low 60%. Expo same on all surfaces: High 30%, Mid 20%, Low 10%. And correction on what I said about 'odd things going vertical'. Meant to say, while inverted doing a loop, if I get too slow, it does 'odd things'.:D

    Im Joe, Frank and that was excellent. How long have you been flying rc planes? You did that all without AS3X and Safe and did it all on the installed receiver from Motion Rc? please tell me more on how?? Bc that was excellent. Please when responding to me tell me in detail on how you set the bird up and did it. Thanks bud I would appreciate it. I would love to hear back from you my friend. bc that was some great flying. I have this plane and alot of experience flyers like me have had alot of issues with it so tell me. what trans and complete setup you did and all the inside and out bc nobody flew the bird as easy as you did.

      Greetings Joe! Thank you much for your comment! Much appreciated! I got into the hobby in 2017. That is correct, there is no AS3X or SAFE as I don't use Spektrum, and the stock gyro is completely disabled via the Mix settings on my radio. My general setup is in the video description. But I'll make a video in the near future to give a more detailed rundown of my setup and modifications I did to this model.

      you really did a great job and the grass is kinda high for the size of the wheels and it really just took off without any issues. I have mine set up with the stock gyro but doesnt fly like yours so im very curious on how you have it all set up?

      @frankflyrc Před 2 měsíci

      @@DronemanJoeRc Thanks again Joe! I disabled the stock gyro. I'm mainly using the board for the pre-programmed control surface mix. I'm not sure what battery you're using, but if it's a large, heavy battery, that will affect how it handles the grass field, along with where the placement of your CG is.
