When they have no pressure issues they will dig into their bag of tricks. When they have little room or time, they go to very basic attacks that allow the goalie to safely play out at ...

S6:E3 HOW TO PROPERLY OVERLAP | HOW NOT TO #rvhfail Watch today from the poor angle perspective on how easy it is for an amateur player to expose a goalie attempting an RVH on a distance poor angle shot. By simply using a controlled overlap tactic here there is a minimal chance of a goal ever going in. As a result of a square chest any chaos rebounds are far more likely to stay on the short sid...

Great T and A coach.
Thanks
Could I do these everyday to gain flexibility and mobility
Excellent
I’m a new goalie and do this at night. I’ve altered it just a tiny bit to fit my needs, and cause I’m working for my splits, but this has really helped increase flexibility and makes it really easy to sleep. I know it’s supposed to be before a game or practice, but I usually don’t have the time to do that😅 so thanks for this routine!
Glad it works well for you
Looks like somebody needs to study this.
This kid is so good hope to seen him in the nhl in the future he is so good the way he moves
Great kid, great goalie, but far, far too short to play NHL
Great goalie, really smooth and square . Short goalie aswell. Is it me or he looks stuck in his equipment like if it was too big for him?
Seems to be large C&A
55 y/o former skater until 10 years ago or so and now new goalie, been playing nets for 3 months now, inspired by my young lad who has just recently discovered the joy of hockey. I’m continually studying the mental aspects of goaltending to try and make up for my physical limitations (which I am also working on but will take time…weight loss, cardio, strength training etc, plus teaching old dogs new tricks lol). I can’t thank you enough for these videos, and I can’t thank my son enough for revitalizing my love for the greatest game on earth.

Can someone please explain what tapping off is? Can’t find anything in Keek’s other titles?
Starting with shoulders on cross bar as line rush approaches your blue line. Then depending on what side you either lightly tap glove on glove side post and step out to top of crease. Or on blocker side, lightly tap with shaft of stick and step out well positioned on blocker angle.
Check out my masterclass…. Link in bio on our instagram. Goes into comprehensive detail on this and EvERY goalie technique and tactic
#Leafsforever
Im using stick, because i play inline😅
The single best statement you said.. unless the shooter is about a STICK length away .. don't default to a RVH.

I remember watching some videos where coaches were turning their blockers side ways to make the save. I was baffled at how I had not heard about this technique before. Looks like it was all a farce.

You should do a segment for us older goalies on boot straps, yes or no. And if so, what are the pros of behind heal, back cowling hole or mid foot? Thanks again, Foot Long
I think strapping is going to be a very individual decision after personal trial and error. The older generation reefed down on the heel straps through the back cowlings hole. Our pads had zero rotation on the leg. This seriously restricted our ability to get wide flares and vertical pad faces in the butterfly. If you are going to wear one it should be for a purpose. If it is just flapping loose doing nothing delete it.
Thanks for the quick reply, I will try removing it but I think my sliding toe lace will cause too much rotation. Will try bungee cord that may work better...thanks.
#selfsponsored I say use the RVH if the puck is below the circle and within 1/2 the distance to the goal. My only issue with the overlap is getting beat backdoor because my outside leg gets caught on the post. I have also had some skilled shooter hit it off the back of my leg when standing next to the post.
You should never RVH when a man is outside a stick length. People made saves on back door passes for the 90 years preceding the RVH. If you can’t get to back door passes with a slight overlap that is on you. I can pull up 100 clips of NHL goalies making backdoor saves staring from the overlap. You have a better chance of seeing God than a non-NHL player consistently banking pucks off your overlap foot. The FAR more likely outcome when misusing the RVH is the endless shit goals seen every night in the highlights. They aren’t rare. If a goalie kept letting in long flippers I think they would figure it out. For some reason, whether mimicry or ill advised goalie coaching, goalies have just accepted shit RVH goals by shrugging their shoulders and acting like “oh well”. I actually love that goalies keep misusing the RVH. It provides me hours of entertainment. It is just like a guy who keeps stepping on a rake and can’t make the connection why his nose is bleeding.
This - this right here is EXCELLENT advice!
Thank you!
Ok loving these shorts . Very helpful for people with kids.

Not that goaltending is pain-free anywhere but no video has ever made be happier to not be playing at a high level
I feel the pain everyday..
Good video!! and good little goalie but his stick is way too big/long. It's out of position every time he gets into his stance (doesn't lay flat on the ice)... Maybe his parents bought it a bit in "advance" so that he'll "grow into it"...
Agreed
Exploded testicle's? Broken skulls? What in Sam hell is wrong with you people (goalies)? As I watched my own kid take a sizzler to the chin last weekend. The result? A cracked $1,000 season old goalie helmet. To a blue collar single dad? Means I'll continue driving my clapped out 2002 Buick Lesabre. He's a 14yr old kid with a skull made of Quickcrete. So he's fine. If it did any damage? I can't tell. To be honest? I think it helped him a little bit. I always enjoy seeing your killer rides Steve. Thank you for all you do for the goalie community. From the STAY OFF MY LAWN guy.
I’m coming over to walk on your lawn with my poodles…😎
I’m also a victim of a ruptured testicle. Orange ball + no jock = Good times
It’s the little things in life
This is encouraging since I've taught myself to do the same thing except I don't stop as many puck lollll😂
Self taught is sometimes better
@@FutureProGoaltending yeah and 10 plus years off doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu helps a bit too. You push him he will just come closer. When you move laterally your toe can "mistakenly" nudge the back of his skate and he falls on his ass.. I never got a penalty nor a grudge from the other player. It looks like a mistake... Goalies gotta cut their angle a bit out of the nonsense 1980's half circle, Am I right???
@@andrewsarasin2654 you are right in many ways

Great video. What do you recommend doing if you have recovery imbalances or aren't quite able to recover both feet at a time? I'm a beer league goalie.
I wouldn’t worry about the double leg recovery in the beer leagues. Simply fire off 10-12 one leg recoveries with the weaker leg that is the cause of the imbalance, at the start of every skate
I’m serious, I need a box of Kleenex to watch this. ❤ I’m such a goalie mom 😂
Yes you are
Glad your talking about over use of goalies being on their knees. Especially small or younger goalies in a non shot/save situation. See a lot of goalies on their knees as soon as the puck is below the goal line.
My pet peeve as well
Trend? The last few years, I’m seeing more goalies standing straight up with their gloves out front and stick two or more feet off the ice. In games when opponent has possession in the zone. In practices, typically when repositioning. Not just to look over screens. Bad habit or trend? Is this being taught?
This is being taught and used effectively to conserve energy in non dangerous times. There are many times when the puck is in the zone that the threat is not imminent. Like side board scrums for instance.
@@FutureProGoaltending I'm a D1 (full ride) goalie from the 90"s. Puck in the zone, resting crouch at least. Rarely stood straight up with the puck on the other teams stick in the zone. It looks lazy. It looks bad. Don't like it.
@@duckhunter2383 noted
@@FutureProGoaltending I'm also seeing more and more goalies moving and in their set position with stick two feet off the ice. Then bring it down when shot is on the way. Don't like that either.
@@FutureProGoaltending I’ve got a short video taken yesterday at a 19u tryout. Right in the middle of the drill. Arms up, body up, stick two feet off the ice, while taking the angle on a shooter. I’d like to get your opinion. Can we connect somehow?
Canadians having the worst defense in the league. I hope the new guys coming in next year will make them a contender.

too me, am a little goalie too, he standing up more, he plays more aggressive. he pock checking. I bet he stack the pads from time to time.
Nice
I'm in my mid-thirties now and definitely in my prime. A lot more mature and focused than in my twenties and more experienced. The only time I will ever get aggressive with another player now is if they are aggressive with me, basically just to defend myself, but no more looking for trouble. Not once has that ever helped. The opposing team hates an ice cold goalie that they cannot read. Composure is the key to success. What's interesting is that I get injured a lot less now than I used to when I was younger. I haven't been injured in over 6 years now. You'd think it would be the opposite with age, but again, discipline and maximizing your movements' "efficiency" also leads to less sprains and injuries.
Excellent video on both time & space along with the analysis on Montembeault. A lot of insight.
Incredible breakdown of the clips with an incredibly strong message. Well done! 🐐

Quick question. 2:42 in the video he plays the shot right and comes out outside of his paint and makes the good save but what if the shooter decides to wrap. He’s out fairly far and I it almost looks like it would be hard to get back to he’s blocker side post. So I was just wondering your thoughts About this. I love the video keep up the great content.
There is always a read to make. If there is significant help in front a wrap around attempt will still put that attacker in danger. It you over challenge too much it will also encourage the wrap. But think of it this way. If a man has time and space to wrap that is 100% crap D zone coverage. If a man #rvhfails you from a poor angle because you were afraid he MIGHT wrap, that is 100% on you the goalie. You have hit on the core issue with modern goalie coaches. They are teaching goalies to not read and trust what their teammates are doing and then shrug their shoulders when they get beat from the corner on a shit angle. “Just a great shot!” BS
@@FutureProGoaltending That makes more sense I like how you said it’s always your responsibility to have that shot and to make that save every time. And to also be able to make that read of when he’s gonna wrap.
As my goalie trainer once told me in my youth: If you have to make a Hašek, you made a mistake or you defenders made a mistake. 99% of being a good goalie in any sport is just to read the play and be at the right position. The rest is up to luck and luck is usualy obtained by a lot of training. Preferably ping pong (or table tennis or whatever you call it).
Another way to look at it is that if you made saves like Hasek, you would be an NHL Hall of Famer, a Stanley Cup winner and a multi millionaire. 😎
i followed trav for a long time... and sadly, i knew he'd fail from the start for the exact reasons you stated. he cared too much about the cameras, was focused way more on youtube and also burnt practically every bridge he had when he decided to dog on the coaches, the teams, the leagues, that all gave him a shot. it seemed to me there was an excuse for everything... he gets pulled from a game? it's not because he was terrible, it's because the coach didn't like him. he gets cut from watertown and mississippi in the fed? it's not because he got pulled in all but 1 of the 8 games he started, it's just a terrible system. he gets cut from university? it's not because he played terrible, it's because his hips were hurting. excuse after excuse. if he just wanted to do the youtube, that's fine! it's respectable! but don't go on telling people your dream is to play pro when clearly he was never invested in it from the start. you did try your best though steve... if only he actually listened to you.
Thanks for watching. I agree
