I came back to this episode because I listened to it the first time in the car and I wanted to see the paintings!! However back on the small crustacean you were discussing - I'm from Ohio and we call them crayfish. But I've also lived in Tennessee where they were crawfish. It's regional, like dialects, but I believe crayfish is the actual correct name...

So late I know. My husband's phone plug stopped working like 8 years ago. To the point where we got a wireless charge pad for him because a new phone was not an option. Fast forward to just a few years ago he goes to a friend's house and randomly they decide to start cleaning game controllers, and in turn their phones. Tell me why for YEARS I told my husband to check the port and that it isn't plugged up with gunk preventing a charge and he t9ld me I was crazy, for him to come home and show me the dust bunny he took out of the port and how his phone now charges perfectly 🙄

Hatch chile from a native New Mexican - Hatch is a city in New Mexico which started growing green chile. If you let it ripen it will turn to red. These are a 🌶️ pepper that looks a lot like that emoji. In New Mexico it has been used for way past my entire almost 50 years of life to make a green chile (which is like a sauce you would put over a burrito for example) with onions and garlic and yummy seasonings. About this time of the year it is harvested and the grocery stores in New Mexico (Hatch is quite a ways from where I lived) would roast the chile peppers but you could also buy them and take them home to roast. Once roasted we would cut them open, remove most of the seeds and then skin them to get the fleshy part of it but not the pulpy part of it. At my house we would then freeze it in baggies the right size to make a thing of green chile. That way we had fresh green chile all year. Not that you mentioned it but if those peppers turn red it’s turned into a red chile (again like a sauce…red is more of a puréed one and green is small chunky one). And because of that…New Mexico has a state question which is “Red or green?” To which you can reply red, green or Christmas which is both but not like mixed together. It’s also vital to note that New Mexico Mexican food is NOT like what people anywhere else are used to. In fact New Mexican food is different as you go further north in the state. The difference is primarily that there is a very distinct Navajo influence to it and that influence is stronger the more northern in New Mexico you go. Why it’s now popping up in things is probably just because it is good. A lot better than a jalapeño for sure. But I don’t like the stuff it’s being put in. I just want it homemade like I grew up with.

Speaking of teeth, I recently learned a very disturbing fact. Snails have anywhere from 14,000 to 20,000 teeth! Terrifying!!

Eric’s “you should be able to bale on anything” made me feel so much better. I feel like I should explain, lol. I lost my job unexpectedly in early July. I’ve been desperately job searching, and last week I finally got an interview, and a job. However, after only the 1st day I realized how toxic and miserable it was going to be. It was so bad that after just 2 hours I was in the bathroom crying. I have been beating myself up because I fought so hard to get a job only to quit after the 1st day.

I’m 25 and I still have a baby molar bc I don’t have an adult molar under it. My dentist said the roots are healthy and that it shouldn’t go anywhere anytime soon. My great grandma had a baby tooth her whole life and she was around 100 when she passed. I think it’s hereditary!

Eric about the hatch chilis it’s because it’s hatch chili season. It comes out in everything every year around this time. My family gets a bunch every year, roasts them and then freezes them to use throughout the year. Mostly in chili verde. they are delicious

Gym class pennies... makes my brain immediately go to the smell of pickles! And I hate pickles! They always stored ours in old pickle buckets from the cafeteria! So they stunk like pickles and sweat!🤢🤮😭 Don't get me wrong I love playing sports, but that was by far the worst part!

I totally agree about Monday Wednesday Friday being even but I totally plan dinner dates on Tuesdays and Thursdays with my family. We always do big family dinners with my seesters and those are usually the days that we end up going lol

Erik! I am from New Mexico and hatch chiles are NOT a fad. These have been around forever but it must be that they are making their way outside of NM now. Hatch chiles can be picked early and fresh and that's called green chile. Then you can have red chile where you allow the chile to get more ripe and it's dried out to become a spicy sauce. I personally love both for different reasons. And fun fact our state question is "red or green" often times people can't pick a favorite so they say "christmas"

Eric, you should never visit New Mexico 😂 But green and red chile both are very popular in NM. Right now is roasting season for green chile, so it’s a big time for it right now. The reason it is called “Hatch” is because that is where a large portion of chile is grown, in the town Hatch NM. It’s supppppper common to order your food “Xmas” meaning both green and red chile. I’m with you though, I do not like it.

I looove hatch chilis but I honestly thought they were a farmer in New Mexico 🤦🏻‍♀️ when I went to NM I had a pastry, chocolate, a bagel, pizza, and a hamburger with hatch chili and loved it on/in everything!

Crawfish boil. Or crab boil. Not bake, please do not say bake. No baking is involved it’s crawfish or crab or shrimp boiled in a large pot with crab boil seasoning, potatoes, corn, onion, and mushroom. Some other things thrown in their depending on preference. Y’all need to visit southern louisiana and experience a crawfish boil!
