I have a fix for charging my batteries
zhlédnutí 66Před měsícem
Here's a potential solution I've devised to address the issue of charging lithium-ion batteries in your RV. Given the persistent problem with the charger converter not switching over even after its replacement, I've come up with a more cost-effective alternative. #rv #rvlife #100ahbattery #battery #charger #lifepo4 #lifepo4battery #rvbattery

Harbor Freight Viking Jump Start Test Long video
I'm going thru same thing with 8955, I reduced the wire length to 5'. Helped a lot with amps but still in LA mode. Getting full 55 amps when charging now. I emailed WFCO for a jumper hopefully I will get one. Great video, thanks for sharing!
Ayup, running into this b.s. with a WFCO WF-8955-AD. My camper has 8 gauge battery wire, so there's a large voltage drop from the WFCO to the Lithium battery. In reading forums, it looks like the WFCO never goes into Bulk mode as a result, and, obviously, the "AD" doesn't do the right thing. This is a HUGE failure on the part of WFCO and the RV manufacturers, as it renders the WFCO charger impotent -- and it breaks this "Auto-Detect" "feature." (As an aside...I had another thought as well: The voltage coming back out of the battery to the power distribution center would also drop in voltage. How does that affect the 12V items in the RV? And if you upgrade the wiring, what happens when the full Lithium battery voltage is applied to the stuff in your camper? It "should" be able to handle it, but...) I made my own jumper to get the WFCO into Lithium mode. I read it's a 1K resistor. Do you think you can Ohm yours out and see what it is? I'd like to know for sure. Anyway, I tried that 1K resistor, and the charger did go blue and start pulling about 700W, but AFTER THE BATTERY CHARGED IT WENT BACK TO GREEN. Are you seeing this? Anywhos, I'm looking at options for my waste of $200 on the WF-8955-AD. I may pull the charger and move it where the battery is to see if it actually works. I may disconnect the WFCO charger completely and buy a separate charger (Progressive Dynamics or whatever) and put that next to the battery. It would have been nice if WFCO and the RV manufacturers actually got together on this and worked it all out, but it looks like WFCO only benched tested their stuff and the RV'ers just slapped it in without regard to wire gauge. "8 gauge supports 55 amps, so what's your problem!!?!?!? Whaddya mean voltage drop!?!?!?!" Sheesh. Oh, I have contacted WFCO support just recently, and I got the same questions you did. I have since been told that the voltage drop is preventing the WFCO from functioning properly, that has ramifications for charging and the battery, and that's that. They didn't offer a jumper. I have read that Lithiums do need to be charged properly to 100% periodically. I have a Victron solar charger that does work and will do Bulk and Absorption modes, so at least that tops off the battery. I have a NOCO Genius 10 that will also do the Lithium charging when I have the battery in storage over the winter. But IMO the WFCO and the camper people really need to step up. Thank you for sharing your experience with this.
@kenltron I will check the ohms on mine, when you call wfco ask for the jumper
@@kenltron yes my jumper has a Resistor.
@kenltron I checked today, and mine went back to green, so I turned my battery shut off and unplugged from shore power and turned the battery back on and plug it back in to shore power and it when back to blue. BTW, the resistor color from left to right is brown brown black Black brown hope this helps
@@Milnickel I think your resistor is 100 or 110 ohms, I used 1000 (per a post I found), probably doesn't matter, as I had the same result as you did where it went green. Yes, there seems to be a trick where powering everything down, then powering up the WFCO and then turning the battery disconnect back on turns the WFCO blue again. Great technology! NOT. I think the voltage drop due to the long wire is screwing it up. Meanwhile search for this phrase, where you'll hit a great discussion in the tab-rv community: 2019-tab-400-battery-charging A user in there rh5555 took the guts of his WFCO and wired it up near the battery, got it working, and then he chucked it for a WFCO AD deck charger (!!??). He included pictures and wiring diagrams. So essentially he did away with the AD charger in the WFCO and replaced it with a separate AD charger near the battery. I think AD isn't the way to go and I'd go with the Progressive Dynamics, as that lets you select your battery type (and people seem to like that one, although it's more expensive). Or something else. I think for me if I got the WFCO AD charger working when installed near the battery, I'm going to call it a win and be done. I need some cable-making stuff before I try that, though.
@Milnickel I moved the WFCO-8955-AD converter near the batteries -- no more of that 20 foot of 8 gauge, it's now less than 2 feet to the buss bars where the battery cables are. The battery is about 88% charged. The WFCO powers up in Lithium mode with the jumper and starts charging on high amps (55A), but then it starts cycling among high amps, low amps (30A or so), and 0A/off, as shown by the Victron battery monitor as well as the Epoch battery app. I don't know why it's cycling -- including going to 0A -- and if that will hurt the battery. Is it the WFCO converter/charger? The BMS? Dunno. It is possible that the WFCO is in Bulk Mode at startup and the battery's BMS is telling the WFCO to back off, given the battery has a fairly high charge already, and this causes the cycling. But I can't say I like what I'm seeing, especially not knowing if it's a problem. Unfortunately I don't know if the WFCO was doing this when it was 20 feet away. I don't know what my next step is. I may get a deck charger (non-WFCO) that's designed for this and have an outlet installed near the batteries for it. I guess that's what a lot of people do. I need to talk with the camper's owner to see what she wants to do. I'm curious to know if you have done anything more with all this.
You didn't buy me a new camper!
You got moms truck and sold it!!! ,where's your camper? You had the money
Seriously informative. Thank you. Straight and to the point.
No problem, my power converter is a WF-8735AD
Its the firmware!!! Dude, just contact WFCO and give them your address and ask for the "jumper" for the 6 pin location in the MBA. Stick the white jumper on that 6 pin, and it will charge at lithium ONLY. That's what I did for my WFCO 8955 MBA - AD unit. Then make sure to put a notification sticker somewhere on the unit for the next owner that its set to LITHIUM ONLY.
I would pit my own jumper on if I knew which pins
@@Milnickel 4. After you removed the silver screws the MBA will slide out. You will see two white pin connectors. One is a 3 pin connector and the one above it is a 6 pin connector. On the 6 pin connector on the top 2 pins you will place the jumper, remember the 3 pin connector is at the bottom of the 6 pin connector.
@@KJC63 I will try that
Well, I emailed them, and they sent a jumper, but it's not just a jumper it has a resistor on it. What size resistor? I don't know.
@Milnickel yeah there's 2 different types. Mine was a full white plug with 2 holes blocked at the top. The other one in the directions looked like a resistor. It must depend on the model WFCO you have. Should be fine. If it's in Lithium only, there will be a blue light. And when it's charging, there will be a red light with the blue light both on. But they're in the back of the unit. You have to peek thru the vent if you have the unit all put back together.
Thanks for the video I just got a lithium battery, and I have the same converter, I was thinking of getting the new one but I’m unsure with all the problems I’m seeing.
You can run the converter you have from what I was looking up. Like I said, if I was yo do it again, I wouldn't change the converter
@@Milnickel awesome thank you so much for the reply. So what I've been reading. It will charge the lithium battery just takes a lot longer? My lithium battery book says a 100% charge is estimated >13.33v
@Tj-oq2lw I just put out a new video. They make a jumper, and when I put the jumper in, it change to the lifepo4 charging profile
I have a WFCO WF-8735-P That was broken right now so I was trying get that parts but not avaliable should the WFCO WF-8735-AD works as my replecement but I only have lead acid.
Yes, it will work for a replacement. The wr8735 ad will work for both lead acid and Lifepo4
@@Milnickel Mine is 30 amp version while the AD is 35 amps does it rv as well
@@MrTheinfoman yes it will work
I have a few of the old red model 2. 400 & 1, 750 and one black 750. I do think the new black model is better somehow. My red ones never had the fan on all the time, however one red 400 did turn the fan on much sooner than the others with the same load. Either way, I think the newer black one is better... imo. Thank you for making the video. 👍
Good video! Looking at the 5000 predator
I would like to look into that.
Also one cat i read was going to do a class action law suit , but haven’t heard anything since !!! Good luck ! Like i said get a progressive dynamic
I was an RV tech for a long time back in the 90S- 2004 as far as your wfco power center i have the same problem wfco tech support tells me ya gotta run your battery to 2% which to me is F-in stupid , i said it doesn’t say that on the box or instructions! They basically told me tuff shit ! Im going with a progressive dynamics switchable power center , see if that works , all the stuff your doing you shouldn’t have to wfco just SUCKS !!!
😊 I wish I was doing what you're doing right now 👍
You can, you just have to do it
I installed the same power center from WFCO.....Have the same issue, what an unreliable POS, ended up just buys a lifepo4 charger......that AD is a joke.
I bought a smart charger for the batteries, and it works better, I turn the bearker off on the power converter to charge the batteries and use the smart charger
I also posted a video of what I did differently
I have the same converter software version 1.19 in a 2023Forest river Flagstaff E pro 20 BHS same issue lots of tips and tricks out there to trick it to work but no guarantees it seems that WFCO and the RV manufacturers do not communicate with one another obviously the manufactures need to understand how the product works that they’re installing unless they just don’t care and the solution that WFCO has come up with is ridiculous it’s unfortunate But from what I have seen online lot’s of people just outright replace the damn thing which may be what I’ll have to do too bad forWFCO instead of admitting to their mistakes and correct in it thereby creating more loyal customers and more revenue Of course I’m sure the majority their sales are to the RV manufactures and as long as they’re buying them They’re making money know if the RV manufacturers started complaining I’m sure they would’ve changed the design immediately ( Put the switch back !!! ) anyhow enough of my rant this would seem to be the more solid fix by replacing it with this unit Progressive Dynamics PD4135KW2BV I believe this is the correct one for the WFCO 8735 AD
Thanks for the info
Just found some more information in the comments on this CZcams video (WFCO Converter Auto-Detect issues and Solution) apparently you can request a jumper for the circuit board pins that will put it in Lipo 4 Mode
@@RIPOFFER07 really, where do the pins have to go? I wonder if I could put a switch in 🤔
@@Milnickel OK from the video I suggested here is what one guy posted in the comments ( remove the cover surrounding the DC fuse block what the fan is attached to there is a six pin plastic connector located at the bottom right side of the motherboard just to the left of the lowest fuse slot jumper plug from WFCO snapped into the connector after gently bending the motherboard a bit to the left for access he suggest calling WFCO support if you need one they sent him the jumper at no charge it could be removed later to put the converter back to lead acid battery mode ) so I’m gonna look online to see if I can see what he’s talking about and I’ll probably call the company to see if I can’t get one of those pins
@RIPOFFER07 I see what your talking about. I just need to know which pins have to be jumped
Does it require to hooked up to a battery at all times? Im trying to find something small to take camping so i can hook up my projector & watch movies in the woods & im going camping next week
It is not necessary to have the inverter constantly connected to the battery. You only need to connect it when you intend to use it.
@@Milnickelso in order for it to work it has to be hooked up to a battery?
@@rpcp5v18 yes
I've had mine a couple of years and use it for my RV pull trailer. It is great except that the co sensor shuts it off. I just tried to bypass it. I have yet to test it. Thanks.
Thanks for the info
Question for you. I want to be able to keep a steady state of charge on my portable generator stored in my non powered shed for ready emergency power outages and have some occasional lights in a rare occasion when I go to my shed at night..Would the battery controller that comes with the Harbor Freight Thunder Max 100 watt solar kit be able to keep my gens 12V 18 Ah lead acid battery topped off like a trickle charger would?
Yes
how is the “clear view” feature? is it comparable at all to live scope ?
The clear view is not like the live scope, it is more like side scan in a way

Those panels barely put out half of their rated amps. A single 100 watt panel will be a huge upgrade. I did the same some 10 years ago. Greetings from Jamaica.

Hello! What kind of batteries did you get? I'm currently researching this and I think there's three different kinds? If you're open to it, I'd love your advice on my situation when I get my rv next week. I really think I need to upgrade the batteries!

Buy yourself extra cables if you use it allot you might run into a jam and need them one day. I had to buy extra set cause i burned the first set up the battery has worked great iv had mine for 2-3 years and its still working strong
Never disconnect the battery before first disconnecting the panels or you will blow the charge controller. What prob saved you so far is that the panels dont produce much power. Nice startup project. Greetings from Jamaica.

You really should go ahead and remove it so you can clean and relube the guide pins👍
Never do this. This is why you should have a professional do uour brakes...... or just act like a professional. Let me know how you pull the bottom pin to clean and lube it before reinstalling it.
Its just a easy way so you don't have to use a coat hanger to hold your caliper
What kibd of caliper is that? Mine is completely solid
Chevy one
You need to take the bottom bold out and flip it up instead of down so theres no unessary tention on the brake line
I will try that next time
Try this on a rotating piston caliper. It wont work.
Yes it does
Knew that shit in the 90s
Ive been doing that since i started working on cars with my dad in the garage
My granddaddy taught me that when I was 12
Just make sure ya dont screw the line up lmao
Yep
N fuk da rotors right who needs a resurface lmao
Also depress the piston all the way in before you pull off the caliper. I never use caliper depressing tools.
Not on every car.
I always use caliper depressing tools lol, how do you screw the ones that screw in, or the 4 piston calipers. Also the brake tools are there for a reason, to make life easier
You got me there.
