    Those chat abbreviations were invented originally for mobile phones that allow texting. Before mobile phones became available to public, those abbreviations didn't exist.     The present tense is NOT used for the past in English, in fact that is a standard learner mistake ("I am living here for 3 years"). The point about the perfect continuous in English is that it runs from the past into the present but it does not denote the present tense alone. "I have been living here for three years"
