I bought a replacement Menards Chicago and Northwestern Diesel loco 9291

Unfortunately my first engine had a defective motor. BUT that defect only showed itself in reverse operation! It's important to break in your loco in both forward and reverse. I'm glad I was able to find this problem quickly. I was able to return the loco very easily at my local Menards. I then ordered a replacement on their website. There is currently a Lionel Badlands train set 6-11714 pretty complete set and in running condition. Jeremy, the water tower was made for Lionel in the mid 1980s by the German firm Pola. Pola also made an HO scale version of the water tower that was sold by Associated Hobby Manufacturers, and possibly Tyco. It was included in a yellow & grey version of this set and was also powered off the engine. Racing boats? sounds interesting!

    • @jimciancio9005
      @jimciancio9005 Před 9 dny

      @@TooManyHobbiesJeremy Yes Sir Jermey, I had at one point over 110 antique and vintage from the teens to the middle 50's standard lower unit and the shorter more streamlined factory racing outboards..... I had almost all of the major and the not so popular outboards and smaller 1 and 2 seater wooden hydroplanes and runabouts in "A, B, and a few C" class purpose built race boat's. 2 of which I had built from the original Hal Kelly blueprints, which these ranged between 8 to 13 feet long. I grew up in upstate NY on the Hudson River where they held a annual marathon back in the late 20s to middle to late 50s here, running from Albany NY to NY Harbor in Manhattan, which was not only a endeavor, but mechanical, engineering and endurance test for both man and machine! Most never made the halfway mark around Kingston/Poughkeepsie markers without any problems or sinking. These were huge events not only for the drivers, but the boat or outboard manufacturers of the day, the likes of say Evinrude ELTO, Johnson and my personal favorite and later to the party Mercury Kiekhaefer. So since my early 20s my brother and I had begun purchasing and restoring, then showing and even racing these things in specially held events and shows called "Wet Meets" in the AOMCI "Antique Outboard Motor Club Inc" which we were members of, plus a bunch of other non official type meets/shows/displays and races across the northeast. But these kinds of hobbies I've learned are a young man's kind of sport Lol, you basically knelt on your knees in these boat's being pounded by the chop of the water beneath your body with nothing more than a piece of 1" foam or carpet as a sort of padding. Needless to say Jeremy, it's physically daunting and definitely causes some permanent damage to the body, which you don't really notice when you're younger. But today I'm almost a ¾ walking cripple from my hard lifestyle with a bad lower back and shot knees and almost all other joints. Having had Lymes disease multiple times in my early childhood doesn't help the complications I'm enjoying nowadays, with arthritis of a 90 year old I'm told @ 45. So yes Sir Jermey, I had to make a lifestyle change in my hobby life and find something that I could still use my brain on, something that involved sort of engineering and or restoration skills to keep me occupied. So yeah man it's been 1/4 scale RC gas boat's I have 3 of one of which is a actual liquid cooled 32cc gas powered 2 stroke outboard with a exact copy of the Mercury outboards I use to race. The other 2 are inboards with liquid cooled 2 stokes and custom laid fiberglass hulls which range between 40" to almost a full 48" long cigarette boat. Then I have a few of the ⅕ to ¼ scale RC drag cars, Baja rails and trophy trucks gas powered by air cooled 2 strokes ranging from 30cc to almost 45cc. LOL I have to do something man!? But even these things have been getting challenging for me to get around, they're not light or small but I'm not throwing in my towel just yet. I've always had a big interest in the railroads, my Great grandfather was a conductor for the Boston to Albany railroad, which I still have his precision pocket watch he used for his time keeping on the tracks. My father was gifted a complete NYC set of the Lionel 700e freight used for a Christmas present in the middle 1940s, stupidly that which he ended up trading in the engine and tender in 1951 for the brand new Lionel NYC F3's in which I still have and run once and a while. The weird part was he kept the old 700e freight set for the newer F3's? Which 1 of the freight car's had to be a adapter car to go from the older couplers to the postwar knuckle coupler. Talk about that saying about Hindsight regrets brother LMFAO! But I don't care about that, it's not about the money for me, it's the memories of my dad and his love for his trains as well. What began as a pretty well controlled hobby, basically turned into a new obsession I'm told LoL 😂 but we all need something as a outlet man. I don't do drugs or drink alcohol, and enjoy my quiet life with my family. At the moment my living room has 4 giant glass display cases where I keep some of my most prised Lionels, Marx and American Flyer Locomotives and their amazing accessories. At the moment we are packing up the house and moving out of NYS soon, where I can have a place where I can build up a nice actual train room for myself and keep my hobby for the trains out of my wife's living room and off the dining room table LMFAO, otherwise we'll probably end up getting a divorce over my "Too Many Hobbies Jim"!!! My garage is full of all my other hobbies as is my family room downstairs, modified golf carts, ATC's ATV's and a small machine shop isn't a great mixture to have a decent display or layout for trains with dust and metal shavings. So yeah man it's now time to make a move to somewhere with more space for the hobbies and the family, not to mention just getting out of this dumpster fire of a state called NY Is the biggest goal in mind here Lol. But keep doing what you're doing Jermey and people will definitely be following your videos. I personally don't prefer to post my own videos due to keeping myself privately as possible, unless someone is asking me for assistance with something that I can't easily explain how to do in writing. God Bless and can't wait to see what you find interesting next my man and hopefully we'll talk soon. Thanks again for doing what you do Jermey. Sincerely, Jim C.

    I have converted several of these Kusan engines with L-Line chassis. A little alteration needed, but they run great. The two electrical contacts in the rear of the engine is for the red lights on the specially car. It had three lights that blinked separately. On my K-Line version I installed a bridge rectifier to get dc voltage to the lights. There are a few Kusan videos on this and their Space sets on utube.

    I have a couple of K-Line chassis if needed....

  • @michaelquinones-lx6ks

    The Kusan tooling passed hands through the years finally ending up in the hands of ''K Line'' Ironically ''K Line'' would be taken over by Lionel, Also, Some of that tooling they used was also made by Marx as well.

  • @michaelquinones-lx6ks

    Built in the year of my birth, Kusan was a cross between Marx and Lionel, Also, A very nice layout.

      Thanks, while I prefer to fix trains than run them - I really like this latest version of my table layout. The Plasticville structures are my favorite.

    The FT and other F units would look good painted up like B-24 Liberators from WWII .....just my opine 😁👍❤🇺🇸

    I don't know if a zip try will work to hold the motor down? if it works then you have a runner.

      I would need to make some side brackets for those tiny screws. Those screws center the motor. Plus I would have to figure out a way to put a center roller on the engine. I'm currently shopping for a k-line chassis as a replacement.

    Will this engine run on o27 tracks?

    • @TooManyHobbiesJeremy
      @TooManyHobbiesJeremy Před 11 dny

      Great question! On Menards website it says the Santa Fe units are designed to run on 31" diameter curves. So it might not work on O-27 track due to the tighter curves.

      @@TooManyHobbiesJeremy My grandfather worked for the C&NW and the C&NW ran through my home town so I’ve always been a C&NW fan. When I was younger in the 60’s you couldn’t get C&NW models; most were the bigger railroads: Santa Fe, UP, B&O, NYC, etc.

      I’ll definitely be going C&NW, although I wished they had a more realistic graphic job.
