What do you use for the cleaner and what grease do you recommend?

All I fish with is 60's, 70's Ambassaduer 5000 & 6000. Or 1 90's 4500.....all great reels.

Abu Cardinal 55 was big with specialist anglers back in the 80s i had Mitchell's 300,a & Match & 208 that i still own & work as good as the day they was bought . Match could do with a repaint.

This video was a huge help , I recently put together a similar setup to his , late 60's ambassadeur 5000 on a wright and mcgill denco 6ft medium casting rod and needed to learn how to cast this setup and his form and techniques was very helpful , tight lines all✌️

I hear about 3000, 4000 etc. series reels. Do the Mitchell 300 and 400 series compare?

I have the 5000 made in Sweden got it 2007 or 8 got it from Kmart Melb Au I returned a bait caster combo I paid $40 She says go an exchange it for another I returned and told her there all gone well go and pick something else so grabbed the 5000 thinking I would have to pay the extra $ she said no you can have it as an exchange it was over $100 yeeehaaaa. 🐊

I love my Mitchell 300, but if there is one thing I can’t stand it’s those vintage hollow fiberglass rod. I have several and I don’t enjoy using any of them. I have better luck with stiff antique bamboo rods or a modern medium graphite 6’0 rod that’s been cut down a bit to eliminate the flop. I current run a Mitchell 300 with 10lb braid, shallow spool on a 5’5” Shimano rod, and another 300 with 8lb mono on a shallow spool on a 6’6” vintage Sears fiberglass rod. As soon as I find a shorter stiffer rod, the Sears rod will be retired! 🎣

Very good reel for beginners and very smooth

I have a 410 which I purchased new. This reel has always been harder to crank that my 300s. Its not an issue of packed greased. Might be a fit issue. Any ideas, a shim or something?

this is A prime example of A product that was made to last, unlike so many things of today that are just throw away . Back when I was A kid our local sporting goods store had several reps. from Mitchell right before the opening of trout season that would preform yearly service and fix any mitchell reel free of charge . Truly A great product and company.

My Dad (gone on now), brothers and I have used Abu round bait casters in the surf since the early 1970's. About 1980 my best (fishing buddy) friend bought the new 'acclaimed' Shimano Bantam 200 one day and felt like hot stuff. Great looking reel and well made. He used it for a year or two but.....well, he sold it and got a new, beautiful black 'Ambassador' that he still has to this day. That, right there, is some fishing story!

I have the 300a AMD these instructions work for that... it does add a gasket between the reel halves. Do pay attention to the shims. Good video.

Now i cherish the 6500cts i have luckily akios knew what these reels were and now do many parts to keep my joys running
