Air brakes can still function perfectly with a minor leak. The air brake system will never run out of air but a hydraulic system will run out of brake fluid if there was a leak even a minor one.

The real reason they use air-brakes is the ability to change trailers; a hydraulic system would not allow for this. Air-brakes are archaic, it’s basically the same system that trains have used for over a hundred years.

At about 1:10 you say "people had no means of portable, artificial light". The Carbide Lamp was developed in the late 1890's and was used on cars and bicycles. The first bicycle lamps appeared in 1896. With the first carbide bicycle lamp patented on August 28, 1900. There was also a helmet mounted version used in mining and other industries. It would be interesting to see the market share of electric v.s. carbide during the early 1900's as Inventions and improvements to both devices continued for decades. A substantial percentage of cavers still use carbide lamps today.

FINALLY someone explains the full details of how airplane wings generate lift, well done! There is no law of nature that tells air particles on the top of a wing that they need to arrive at the trailing edge at the same time as those traveling under the wing. In reality, the air on top often arrives sooner than the air on the bottom.

  • @georgepretnick4460

I dispute your theory that the fedora was adopted by men from a women's style. Maybe the name, but not the hat. The general shape of the men's fedora was the next step in the evolution of the men's western hat or what we now call a cowboy hat, which evolved from the tri-corn of the 18th and 17th century and the men's high top hat. So was the bowler and the Mexican sombrero. Felt hats were a major reason for the beaver skin trade that moved westward as beavers were trapped out from eastern states.

5:21 Re: Corsets. Please STOP repeating the LIE that ''corsets were uncomfortable''. The whole idea of a corset was to accentuate the female figure... AND to support the torso. Any corset that was uncomfortable was one that was ill-fitted and / or poorly made. It's most likely a feminine-form hating feminist or a man who first started up the story that corsets were always overly-laced and uncomfortable.... a lie begun to enforce the ideology that females were forced by the Patriarchy to be subordinate mindless objects.
