1:29 center ship is the USS Proteus AS19. It was turned into a berthing barge in 1992….then towed to Brownsville for scrap.

There’s only, like, five ships left in Suisun Bay. All of the other ships were carted off for scrap, except the Iowa, which is a museum in Los Angeles. They still fire blanks from her 16-inch guns occasionally.

Did they realize that day what the treasure they had? I was a child during his "Hook" and "Aladin" years, and loved him so much. I miss the man so much. But even the greatest of our generations end. I hope all who come across this comment will know Jesus Christ so that there will be a glorious eternity for them. Robin may not have had it, you in your pain, may not have Jesus. But you can. One day, at the end of the age, Jesus will stand as Judge, and He will judge all of us. Robin by his fruit, me for mine, and you for yours. Did we do all we could do to make Jesus Christ known? Or did we hate Him? He will judge righteously. The Savior of sins, the Son of God will judge righteously.

Thoses old ships

The mothball fleet at Rough & Ready Island, Stockton, CA was my first duty station out of boot camp back in 1962. It was dismantled 3-4 years later and moved down the river to Suisan Bay.

Mostly Cargo and Supply ships w/a few Troop Transports. The USS IOWA is no longer there, as it is now a museum in San Pedro, Calif.

Geez, good to see Robin as such a young man here ( circa 1977). His appearance on Happy Days was in early 1978. This is great...Loved it ❗🛸👽 Thankyouverymuch ❗👍

This video was produced in 2010. I wonder - now in 2020 - how many of these ships have been scrapped and what newer ships have replaced them in the mothball fleet? A 2020 update video would be nice to see.

Most of those look like support ships. They should move them to fresh water like the Great Lakes so the hulls don't rot.

Star Wars came out May 25, 1977 so it was definitely after that date.....

Here is some trivia from the writer/producer, (Ralph Conradt). I was working at HP's corporate video center (HPTV) in Palo Alto when one of the trainers asked me to put together a video to support a course based on Wilson Learning Corp "Managing Interpersonal Relationships". Just by chance I saw Robin at the Holy City Zoo one weekend and I thought that he could play all four characters cause that is what he was doing on stage. I asked him if we could talk and we went outside into the cool, foggy San Francisco night. I was in my business mode and trying to hire him but he would not break character and this got a little frustrating . Eventually I got his agent's name (Sam Joffe). Even in these early days his agent who also handled Woody Allen knew he was someone special. During production we rolled all out takes onto a separate VTR and edited the hours into a 40 minute rather adult tape. This brings back many memories, The rainbow suspenders were found by our wardrobe dept. In the scene with the DRIVER personality Robin is wearing my THree Piece Suit (remember those) when we were both size 38R. Awe those were the days! It took us one week to shoot all the scenes. Ten hour days and then we would go partying most of the night. Robin did not need much sleep. He grabbed some shut eye in the green room between set ups. This tape won several awards which stand along with some Tellys and a San Jose Ad Club Joey on my bookshelf. I have tried to sell these some of these artifacts through Hollywood auction houses but I was told there was no interest in anything that was not motion picture related. I have long ago retired but still get emails from people who have found me on the net and i am always happy to answer questions. I assume Wayne Fogle used to work at HP or at least produced Corp Videos but I never met him.

Used to spend many, many weekends out here in Suisun Bay with my Dad back in the 70's fishing for sturgeon just off the mothball fleet. My Dad is long since gone and so is the old fleet---only pleasant memories remain.

Just scrap them. All of these "mothball", "reserve" or "ghost" fleet of ships just end up rusting away never to return to action again. These rusting ships should have either been maintained meticulously or just scrapped as all they're doing is rusting away. It's a shame because of their historical significance hence they should have been maintained better if the Navy wanted to return them to action.

Are there some people working on those ships (like some upkeep or something). Or at least guarding them that Ruskies or terrorist don't sneak in and steal them.

I used to live in Benicia and drove past that fleet twice a day for years. Used to keep the Glomar Explorer there also (Howard Hugh's boat- look it up). One morning it was gone- that was pretty cool.

My wife and I were riding the California Zephyr ,from Emeryville Ca. to Denver Co.and when the train crossed the bridge I looked down and saw the "mothball fleet'' it was thrilling! In 2011!

I learned nothing.

Not worth keeping a reserve fleet these days. By the time you have taken it out of reserve .modernised it,and equiped it. It would be cheaper to build a new one. The arms race is just moving too fast,these days.

Better to have all 4 battle ship's in working order and not use them then not have them and need them
