This is my favorite review of Arcs: Campaign. I love Tom's review from SUSD, but you were able to provide concise examples of how the campaign mode creates stories and Tom was only able to allude to it. This is the definitive review that I'm passing on to my friends. One of my gaming groups is going to play the campaign mode for the first time tomorrow night - very excited!

This is definitely the best review I've seen of Campaign Arcs. I love how you communicate lots of different perspectives and preferences through dialogue. It really works well!

I know its kinda unrelated, but what gaming table is that ? Did you buy ? custom made ? What are the measurements ? Please

It feels like the Steward was playing more to stop everyone else from succeeding in their objectives than playing to further their own. There were a lot of daring raids and decisive battles (mostly on the left, already imperial side of the map) that did nothing to advance his objectives, doubly so as Warlord was never declared. Damaging the Regents (and everyone stayed a Regent, which would normally be great for the Steward!) crippled the economy, stifling taxes. A good example of the key differences between the base game and the campaign: opportunistic strikes to cripple an enemy on the board is not always preferable to cooperation and largess.

Good analysis of a complicated game. I liken the base game to a regular Boardgame. The campaign is more of an RP experience - with rules attached. The downside to the campaign is the rules overhead can swamp people. But I think its a necessity of the emergent gameplay experience.

Wow, epic take. I don't get tired listening to Oath takes, and now in preparation for the campaign watching everything out there and short of susd, that's the best campaign explanation and demonstration

I'm confused how someone would double declare ambition in a turn. how do you acquire initiative back consistently? is this not dependent on your hand?

I find it really crazy that after playing my first campaign, I talked with my friends about a similar feeling of storytelling to what you described, during the games I am only thinking in mechanic terms, and then the next day while thinking about the game I realize of the narratives present. Still, a great experience all the same

Star Wars shouldn"t be in any scifi argument. It's fantasy disguised as scifi.

Overhyped! Too random! If you don't draw the right cards you automatically lose and there's LITERALLY nothing you can do to mitigate it. People interacting with me and not just letting me run away with the win makes me feel sad. People running away with the win because I don't interact with them makes me feel sad. Time to play a game where luck of the cards won't make my big brain moves meaningless - time to go back to Ark Nova I guess.

I see Arcs like Starcraft. You have a narrative campaign that you will enjoy and learn the world you're playing in and then a multiplayer mode where you build a base and army and go and destroy each other. You'll probably play the campaign a number of times while the multiplayer will be played for years and years to come.

They should definitely watch Dune and Andor season 1 is indeed great.

Managed to find the base game in a board game store in Boston, but still haven't found the blighted reach expansion anywhere. I pre-ordered the retail version. Any idea when that comes out?

I don't think the lesson is so much "try a game lots of times" as it is "some gamers will turn any game into a horrible experience, no matter the game". Lack of teaching and lack of grace for you being a newbie sound really shit. I would encourage everyone to narrate their turns, give a full teach and some strategic advice to the newbie, and give some idea of what other folk's motivations are with their turns.

Dude, you watched a bunch of CZcams videos, and still don't have a clue how the game works... And you play games like TI, but don't bother to read the rules before you join your first game... And then your friends sound like a bunch of unfriendly people... And now you blame the game??? Although I agree, Root is overhyped 😜

I can't believe in your first game that they just said you could wing it! I also can't believe the Corvids would snare-lock a still-learning player. Some people really need to consider who they're playing against and adjust their tactics. Sorry you had these experiences.

I do not have this game, and will not have it until at least next year ( waiting for my language translation to be able to play with friends) but I love your video. It really help me understand the depth of this game.

Really good video, I think your style of explaining and editing is great. Keep up the good work! The only feedback I have is the image quality. Maybe it's the camera, maybe a dirty lens, maybe bad lighting. But most of the video I felt I was watching through glasses that need to be cleaned.
