Even Rolls Royce had the Citroen hydropneumatic system under licence for some years in the 60s.

I loved these benzes. I drove a 1977 6.9 for a year. Loved it! The ride was (almost) as smooth as our Citroën DS.

There was never any mention that the hydropneumatic suspension on the Mercedes was the Citroen system that Mercedes used under license! Bad research and reporting! The Citroen DS had the most advanced and comfortable suspension of any car. No one could rival it! Citroen introduced this self-leveling system already in 1955 (or 1953 on the rear wheels of the B15H).

W126 is the last Classic Mercedes.. nothing drives like a Mercedes after that even the W140 does not drive the same.... the seats, the star, the hood, the dashboard , nothing compares....

Usually I get asked if I am 18 or older when I want to watch such kind of content on the internet ;) What an amazing car. I think it is even more appealing today because all modern cars look boring and without any character in comparison to it. And it is all about these great NA-engines. But not only the 5 series, also the E32 7 series and the E30 3 series as well. And for sure one generation before the E21 3 series, the E28 5 series, the E23 7 series and the E24 6 series are absolutely gorgeous.

In my personal experinces( 4 generations of S class) and childhood memories w116 was ultimate. Most reliable(16 years no suspension works). It flies on poor and off roads, soft on highways. Had body roll but it was soft movement and fun. Speed breakers or even crossing footpaths no problem 😂. Later w140 was also nice duarable little stiff but more stable. Heavy feeling W220 was amazing and surprising feeling how air suspension handles situations but untill it fails/leaks 😢highly unreliable. It was END of ability to fly on poor and off roads. Later w221 : little bit improved but stiff due to low profile tyres. More or less just a highway car. No to off road. BTW all new modern cars are just highway cars.

All these prices to get these cars is going to be a ABSOLUTE shit bucket turd with no engine and a blown trans that’s taken apart with someone saying “I know what I got” 😂😂😂 get real man. You can’t get any of these that are any sort of decent for any of these prices you are listing.

This test was most likely done in late 1981 or early 1982. It was originally done for a German TV show called Der. 7 Sinn, the episode this test was in originally aired on 14 February 1982. The bare trees suggest that this test was done in the winter, so probably between November 1981 and February 1982. I had a 1983 w126 with the full hydraulic suspension that was one of the smoothest rides ever. I loved the feedback back from the steering wheel felt more in tune with the car and the road.

W140 hands down is the better built, quieter, better riding car. And loads more reliable if maintained. BMW is gorgeous I’ve owned both these cars. But over all in all categories the w140 is just a better car.

You are not correct at 1:20. That is a US 1986 735i (E23) not (E32). The e23 ran up to 1987 in the US. 2 years longer than the rest of the world.
