    At that price the unit should run on AC and DC so you can directly hook it up to solar panels and have it automatically switch between them like the hybrid EG4 mini splits do!

    For only $5,000.00 USD i can get my very own 43 gallon SNANCO. I think the savings and warranty do not out weigh the price. I can go out and buy any other reputable HPWH for less than half the price and see very close to the same savings. Also the water in and out lines are 3/4. 99.9% of homes in the US have 3/4 or bigger trunk lines. If i step up from 1/2 to 3/4 i reduce the flow which reduces the pressure. Now i know why you don't see these in American homes.

  • @GoCoyote

    Most code authorities and good practice dictates that an expansion tank be used regardless of the lack of check valves. If the main water supply is shut off for any reason while the water in the tank is cold, and the tanks is then heated, the expanded volume of water will place the house plumbing and equipment under considerable stress to the point of damage. Why risk a $6k water heater to save $50 on an expansion tank. The expansion tank will also reduce stress from water hammer due to solenoid valves on clothes washers and dishwashers.

    Finally someone who gives the power required so now I know that this one is not budget friendly nor compatible with low cost solar energy to run this on solar electricity you are looking at 10 grand for solar and over 7 grand for the hot water most people don't have 17 grand in their pockets and even 2 grand for solar is stretching the budget so this means even hybrid hot water tank cannot be used with solar power

      I don't decide to purchase things based on the cost of the individual pieces of the system. I base my decision on the value it provides to me and my family. Using far less energy to heat our water has an obvious payoff. We are able to purchase a smaller solar array as a result of having this based on the reduced energy consumption. It's better technology. If there is insane mark up on the product others will come around to try to get some of those profits, and then the price will go down.

Rheem really needs to clean this install up, run the friggin supply line connectors up to the top, just like any ordinary water heat, it is not that difficult to clean the Heat Pump, other supplies or hybrids have done it. Those side connectors and drains are just screaming for someone to bust one off and flood the area.

    I just installed one of these A.O. Smith units. Several things surprised me. The first is how the air filter is of little value as it has a very poor fit allowing several gaps for unfiltered air in. Another is the lack of engineering to make connections ro the inlet and outlet easy. They are not in line vertically. The bottom connection is very close to the floor. This makes the use of sweat connections difficult as the manufacturer does not want any heat applied to the inlet and outlet as they have a thick plastic lining which can be damaged. This requires making an assembly and then screwing it onto the tank. This requires tilting the tank to accomplish that. Overall a pain to work with unless you are supporting a fitting manufacturer.

    • @buixote
      @buixote Před 2 lety

      We've got a GE, and the filter looks like a sieve. One thing I notice is even companies that provide a duct kit don't account for the small size of many "water heater closets"... Rheem says use a louvered door, and face the outlet towards the door... trouble is, if you do this, everything else you need to access is facing the *wall* . I can't imagine that locating the necessary fittings/controls to allow for "easy installation" is rocket science... but then again, you'd have to pay some engineers, and that would cut into the shareholder return! ;-)
