Honestly, i think the *real* desperation would've been if he had been announced as returning as Iron Man/Tony Stark. That, to me, is the real desperate and pandering move, since all the fans who have lamented the mixed bag of Phases 4 & 5 have been wanting that. While this is definitely stunt casting, the fact that RDJ is returning as an iconic villain to potentially take down the universe that his other iconic role essentially helped build; that's pretty fucking interesting to me. It's not like the dude isn't capable. He's fresh off an Oscar for playing a villain; he played 4 wildly different roles in "The Sympathizer"; to play devil's advocate, it would be cool to see RDJ flex a different acting muscle within the MCU sandbox. End of the day though, we gotta wait two years to see how it pans out. As divisive as this announcement is, it just proves that whether it's the highs or lows, we're still living in Marvel's world. "Deadpool & Wolverine" JUST opened to $400+ million, and featured some pretty significant fan-service & rousing moments.... and nobody is talking about that anymore. Marvel just took attention from their most recent movie, to get people talking and speculating about one of their OTHER movies that won't drop for another few years. Look at all the nerd videos, this included, that dropped overnight JUST to talk about it. It's diabolical. And kinda genius lol.
