    Why call it expat and not immigrant?

    • @internations
      @internations Před 3 dny

      Hi, The simplest definition of “expatriate” is a person who lives outside their native country. At InterNations, we use the term “expat” to refer to any person who chooses to live in another country. This stay abroad is often, but not always, for a limited period of time.

    This is how america should be but our minimum wage was 7.5 hourly for 25-30 years. Now no one can afford anything nor can anyone save. At least in Singapore the wages and living expenses are at livable rates. America we are doomed.

    If you are runner, there are many groups. Wedensday night Running Department from UOB Plaza at 7pm is very welcoming. Mostly ethnicly Chinese (thats ok for me I speak Mandarin) but English is no problem - highly recommended! Also Parkrun at East Coast and there are three others I think, very friendly

    I'm Singaporean and I don't know where is this fast paced came from lol! Our walking pace maybe, or our escalators? But other than that it's manageable. You still get to do what you do for hobbies etc.

    • @Dublinby
      @Dublinby Před měsícem

      Agreed! Sgp is not fast-paced at all. For a major international city, it is very moderately paced. London/NYC/HK all much more fast paced. It's also reflective on the fact that the MRT is not that busy compared to other metro systems in big cities, and its acceptable to wear sandals and shorts in most places.

    1500-3000 for rent? completely wrong, you may get 1500 if you share an HDB with others, but as a single person, who doesnt want to share, a condo would cost anywhere between 2.5-5 k. Also if you plan to live in sgp long term, PR is important as without you essentially get none of the key benefits related to healthcare, superannuation and housing (which is the big one as 60% is the stamp duty on most foreigners).

    Madrid have become expensier since I lived there in the 70's and visit every year including last June and back next Dec24. The cities around it are cheaper and easy transport if without a car. Of course if coming from outside with 3k per month single person you will be in heavens. Cheers

    • @internations
      @internations Před 2 měsíci

      Hi there, It's true, Madrid has seen significant changes over the decades, and the cost of living has certainly increased since the 70s. It’s great that you still get to visit regularly and can observe these changes firsthand. The surrounding cities do indeed offer a more affordable alternative while still providing convenient access to Madrid via public transportation. Thanks for sharing!

    I have a soft spot for this place as I learned to play guitar there. I used to live there about 50 years ago. I revisited - maybe 3 years ago and it's a little too conventional nowadays with lots of rules. It used to have an exotic and slightly dangerous feel to it. I found it not too expensive because I ate and drank in local places like Zam Zams Indian restaurant - still there from when I lived there. If I could find somewhere where they still play electric guitars I would go back.
