John Deere X739 with 47" Snowblower taking care of business
Today we take care of 6" of powdery snow with the trusted Deere. I got a little chatty, but the cab is a very noisy one on these smaller tractors. Most of my talking was difficult to hear at best... my apologizes. All-in-all it was a fun little excursion, so I hope you enjoy!

Snow blower impeller kit explained on John Deere 47" snowblower.

I've had a few viewers ask me to show my impeller kit on the Deere 47" blower. Sorry that I did not record the install a few years ago. It's a little tricky to install them while the unit is assembled, but can be done. I used a cardboard template to ease drilling, then some small spring clamps to hold the rubber in place as I assembled the bolts.

eBay offers knock-off paddle kits including the fasteners. The paddle retention fasteners are straight 1/4" shanked and do not have the stepped shank that the OEM fasteners do. They also include additional spacers to be pressed into the paddle holes and eliminate the clearance between the paddle and the fastener shank. This maximizes the threaded protrusion with the fastener and installation is easy. I tried Dow #4 on the stepped shank and found that the fasteners kept popping out during installation. I'm going to buy the kit with the straight shanked fasteners and the additional spacers next time. The cost difference was negligible The needle nosed vice grips, however, are a winner and make the end location installation easy.

This is my model of Toro. I recently experienced in the major snow storm in the Midwest (Jan 2024) the remote chute controller freezing up and locking the chute into one position. To my dismay I had to wait for the maachine to thaw out (unheated garage). Does anyone know a way to prevent freezing up? I would have given anything to have a manual chute controller during that recent blizzard!

I hear ya! Mine just froze up recently as well. Granted, it was -10°F. I just pounded on the chute and kept trying the shifter until it broke free. Perhaps some type of low temp waterproof Grease may help prevent it, but its never really been an insurmountable issue for me.

WD-40 it that should get it unstuck. Also WD your auger blades and chute to prevent sticking prior using machine. And let it sit and dry overnight. If WD doesn't get the chute controller unstuck. Then try a hairdryer or some kind of de-ice spray made to melt ice/snow. If all that doesn't work which it should. Then you may be looking at having it repaired. This is why i didn't go with the QZE model for this very reason and got the 821 R-C instead.

It allows more freedom in getting the end bolts in place. Deep throated vise grips also come in handy. I also drill out the holes so I am not fighting that as well as trying to get a nut on the short thread length.

Bought this for my small back deck in the Eastern Sierra. czcams.com/users/postUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN We get A LOT of HEAVY snow so I was a bit skeptical but it was worth it! After the first storm of the year this has exceeded expectations! It throws snow very well, even 10-12” + that said the more it piles up the harder it is to maneuver the machine. It is exceptionally light weight and overall exactly what I was looking for. If you have a large amount of snow and a lot of area to clear, you may consider something with a drive engine to help maneuverability, but for decks, second stories, roofs etc, you can’t beat the light weight to great snow throwing ratio. Side note, the chute rotator is a bit flimsy and it initially didn’t seem to work, after a few uses it seems to have loosened up.

We're supposed to be getting wintery precipitation of some kind and amount that the weather man won't specify tonight. I seriously considered the 812 QZE mainly for the Chute control, I'v regetted spending extra money on electric start before since all my Toro equipment has nearly always started on the first or second pull. As for the Chute control, I know it's a pain going around the handle to move the chute but I'v had convince features that add complexity, stop working at the worst possible time before, so I'll go with the tried and true K.I.S.S method. I also like the bigger fuel tank and longer wearing paddls

Nice video, what size is your shed? What size is the door of the shed? I’m getting a X738 next week and i need to get a shed

Thanks for watching! I have a 12'x16' shed. I raised the door opening to 84" because I wanted the low profile magnetic mounted strobe light on the cab roof. Luckily my metal roll-up shed door had enough extra to close the new larger floor gap. I have way too much packed in there, but it was the largest shed allowed on my small city lot. Good choice on the X738, good luck!!

I put the extended life paddles and scrapper bar on my 721 and they turned the thrower into a crack catcher

I was thinking that being thicker and stiffer, they crab in every single crack or irregular spot

just saw your video while looking for info on impeller kit. Have to ask, why in the world would you put suitcase weights on the front of the tractor when you already have a huge amount of leveraged weight on the front with the snowblower? Ballast on the back of course, but the front?

Hi, thanks for watching. The front weights are useful when in float mode and in deep snow... they improve steering authority. If you have a tractor monted snowblower with hydraulic downforce and float mode, you already know the plusses and minuses of each mode for specific conditions. I can remove them quickly if conditions do not warrant their use.

@@rebel390 Makes sense. With the snowblower raised and the weights installed, thats a lot of weight on the front axle for a tractor not designed for use with a loader. Nevertheless, thanks for posting the nicely done video. One of the better videos for installing the impeller kit.
