I thank God sooo much for this message. It takes away an "added sense of guilt & shame" in the face of adversity & sets one free to "relax" (per se) in Father's trustworthy & Almighty Sovereign arms ... there is Godly purpose in suffering ❤❤❤
This has strengthened my faith in the power and goodness of God - thank you!
Beautiful
We love you exhippie John piper you are super on Jesus
Piper, did you ever fancy yourself to be a great unifier in the church? You staged such a strange assortment. Rick Warren, Doug Wilson, Francis Chan, Tim Keller, even Mark Driscoll. With many etc’s to be sure. Do you find it strange that your legacy will be one of utter, complete and potentially devastating division? Did it take you off guard when you realized Christians were more focused on the lives of babies rather than your disdain for Trump?
Humbled Sir. As I learn allow me learn more from you Pastor John
Look! Piper, oh-so-humble, accuses prolifer’s of lying! “Christians communicate a falsehood to unbelievers…when we act as if policies and laws that protect life and freedom are more precious than being a certain kind of person.” Look! The ever-humble Piper calls us presumptuous! “And I think it is baffling and presumptuous to assume that pro-abortion policies kill more people than a culture-saturating, pro-self pride.” Look! On a roll, making it a triumvirate of nastiness, Piper calls us naive! “It is naive to think that a man can be effectively pro-life and manifest consistently the character traits that lead to death - temporal and eternal.“. (Now, don’t be offended, because Piper has granted us permission to vote for whoever we want to, without even sinning. As long as you’re comfortable with being a liar, being naive, and being presumptuous. (As an aside, does Piper have the power to exonerate Trump voters for “communicating falsehoods? Sounds pretty sinny to me…)
Can you see where a reasonable person could be reasonably offended? You called us liars, you called us naive, you called us presumptuous. Yet many states have not suffered ONE abortion in almost a year, no thanks to you. Because in 2026 we did not heed your call, the lives of many have been spared. Because in 2020 your never-Trump call was heeded, lives are at risk. The world over. How you can stand to live with yourself is a testimony to your ability to self-deceive.
Thank you Pastor Don Carson, "Truly to live in the Power of the love of God"
Wonderful!
You are!
Amen. John Piper, that's an inspired awesome sermon.
You are
Thank you, I am watching in January 2023, just got the book as I am searching out a deeper walk with God ... I learned to pray at the bible study at church which was very old school... I am learning to pray the bible... Learning to pray all over again, cos I got lost along the way ... So here I am praying this prayer every day this year, along with the other prayer in Ephesians 1 .
What manner of love God has bestowed upon us that we are called the children of God.
What bible version? I just find it easier to follow (and listen) along if I'm looking at the same version.
He uses the NIV!
That was an absolutely incredible message!
오사오~~××@~37완전수로! ㅋㅋㅋ 요한계시록완성 아 진짜 🤦😂😭👍🏾
Wow one of my favorite sermons ever
The necklace looks great on him!
I was wondering if anyone was going to mention the elephant 😂
Thank you, Mr. Piper!
Is there a copy of this with better audio?
Where in scripture is this point emphasized - especially in the Gospel of Jesus Christ? God does not need us - but He deeply loves us beyond all comprehension - and His heart longs for the salvation of all! Never ever divorce His wrath or His sovereignty from the irreducible fact that God IS Love! NOT “God is Love, BUT”!
Dear Wayne, I'm guessing you didn't listen to the sermon? If you did, then interact with Carson's points, raise questions, objections, etc. with Scripture. So that we can have an actual discussion
True...most of their claims are not even in the scripture.
They act like they know the mind of God. Arrogant.
Amazing. Jesus is worthy.
So weird why he have beads around his neck.
It's a kukui nut lei. He's in Hawaii and it's a popular item given to tourists along with flower leis. But I'm assuming it's a gift from the conference. I remember D. A. Carson bringing up some of these points in some of his other sermons. His Fighting Temptation series if I remember correctly.
I AM SORRY TO ASK IF YOU ARE INVOLVED WITH ECUMENICAL POSTURE....PLEASE UNSWER THIS QUESTION, MANY PLEOPLE NEED TO NOW.......GRACIAS.
Hi Paulina, I'm a New Born Baby in Christ, could you please explain to me what's the "Ecumenical Posture?", I really don't know what the concept is or what does it mean. Many thanks in advance, may our Lord Jesus Christ Bless you, Amen.
Do you have any questions for ME, JOHN ?
I want Christ to be 'Mega'!
Wow! I am so blessed by finding this exact sermon. For a while, I've been listening to many people tell me that God doesn't ever want us to suffer, that He doesn't condone it for us, His children. Though, I am only five-ish years into studying the Bible. I could not agree with this suffer-free expectation of living because I didn't read that theology in the Bible. I don't go to a church so I don't have the constructs of a particular brand of theology. I just keep reading the Old and New Testaments because I absolutely LOVE the Bible. My friend said that if she gets an illness that she will pray and Jesus will heal her! I said something like, "What if its God's will that you go through the suffering?" She replied that she would never, ever believe that. Therefore, I decided not to speak further.
Linda Keaton just remind them of Romans 8. We must suffer with Him in order that we may be glorified with Him.
Look up “Redemptive Suffering”, which is the belief that all Christians believed until recent history. The idea that we can pray & tell God to heal us & he will do it is not only a New Age belief that has seeped into some churches it is arrogant & evil to think that we are the boss of God. It’s a perfect example of the rich, self-centered, Oprahified Christianity where people believe they are somehow superior to the rest of the world & above the pain & hard times of life. That type of belief system also demands that we believe anyone who is poor, sick, lives in a country at war, etc. are less than & deserve to suffer. I don’t know how anyone can be filled with the Holy Spirit & believe that kids at St Jude Hospital deserve to have cancer, teen girls in Ukraine deserve to be raped by soldiers, mothers in Africa deserve to watch their babies slowly starve to death; That type of faith is an Oprah, Kardashian religion where people are the god & they throw in some Bible verses & Jesus, but there’s nothing of the Jesus who suffered on the cross for us.
God does need us. Love needs a recipient.
Malcolm Hines Your definition of Love is perverse . Love is defined biblically .
The recipient is the Son, Father or Spirit from the Son, Father or Spirit. Our Triune God is the only one who can be love and not be in need of any person outside himself to love. This is what makes Allah inept when Muslims say Allah is love and also self-sufficient/sustaining in himself. If Allah were love, he would be in need of something to love -- not self sustaining.
I reject all God's, but I will agree with you in saying love needs a receiver. I've been trying to show the love my depression caused me to hide. Pushed her away, kept quiet mostly, and didn't do important things. I love her, but she doesn't love me, and my love is bouncing off of her, back to me and being transfered to self-hatred, depression, and schizophrenic episodes. No, don't pray. My grandmother is a devout Christian and prays for me everyday, and I'm still fucked up.
what are you wearing around your neck
Carson is wearing a wreath of garlic to keep the vampires away.
He's in Hawai'i for this conference (assuming since it was TGC Hawai'i that posted this video) - I don't know the name or specific significance, but it's a necklace/adornment I have seen common in Hawai'ian culture. I assume it was a gift given him by his hosts.
Puka shells. I think. Or maybe not as the examples I see online don't look like what he's wearing. It actually looks a lot more like Kukui nuts. That is my final answer :-)
I believe Pastor Don Carson was in Hawaii for this sermon. He is born in Montreal, Canada but he reside in Libertyville, Illinois :)
God is most glorified in you when you are most satisfied in Him, in the midst of loss
Wow!!!! Outstanding sermon that goes to the heart of suffering and God's role in it. God is in control of EVERYTHING that has happened that's happening now or will to come! This sermon was immensely needed right now for me in that I have been dealing with health issues some for decades and another for over 5 years. How comforting to know that through this God is not only with me but will sustain me and comfort me. I always want to show people how awesome God is especially when they don't believe. The biggest testimony a Christian can give is to show people God is better and more satisfying than any negative circumstances that comes against them! Amen to that!
wow, shall we not praise Him either way when He is a providential creator? I love it Pastor John. Suffering Strength
great sermon
You are
I think he is treating God's love in human terms God is not human his love is so deep we can't even understand it.
What????
dat shirt though
It is the religious practice for all Buddhist priests would have to hang around their necks with a long chain of beads
🙏🏻
You're so pretty😑
Great resource.
wish he had been wearing a hawaiian shirt at word alive this year
