Quarterfinals? He's the world nr.2, even being kicked out in the semis is a disappointment. He's gotta win the saudi smash or get to the finals, otherwise he's not gonna be chosen. Plus wang hao and the chinese team do not care about fan zhendong getting a chance to complete a grand slam. He's gonna be smashed by wcq if he did get to the finals anyway, and they simply want china to win, meaning they're gonna pick the one with the best performance against foreign players and especially against players that are confirmed to play. And ma long's arch nemesis, patrick franziska, doesn't play. Fan zhendong on the other hand has lost to quite a few foreign players, or at least got into the 5th, like against lebrun. So yes, he needs to at least reach the finals of saudi smash, or it's over for him.

@@bbing-99 Then ma lin would've been picked over zhang jike in 2012. It's simply bullshit. How are you supposed to win a tournament if you can't even participate? And wang chuqin has already won the men's finals and the star contender in doha, the singapore smash, and performed extremely well in the team world cup. Plus he's by far the most dominant player right now, against both foreign and chinese players. And you're also not a coach of a national team for a reason.

Ma long has a zero percent chance of winning it

@@mryan4452 Fan zhendong has zero chances of winning it, and did you not watch the world cup? Tell me, who's gonna be an opponent to him? Wang chuqin? Was sweeped in 4 straight games without having a chance. Lebrun? Was also destroyed, also didn't stand a chance. Lin gaoyuan, one of his archnemesis? Was reverse sweeped after he changed his playing style. Liang jinkun? Just barely won against ml with a playing style not fitting to his age. So his chances, if he plays like he did at the world cup, are higher than anyone else.

All WCQ has to do is put more spin in to Ma's backhand and he'll dominate him as he usually does, Ma has a strong block on his backhand (but he has a one dimensional block backhand) and WCQ played into it with v fast shots and not too much spin, mark my words he won't get surprised and caught out again in Saudi Smash. WCQ has the complete game with no weaknesses whereas Ma has a weak backhand (in comparison to WCQ and FZ). I'll come back here in a weeks time and say, I told you so (don't delete your comment when he looses so I can respond to it 😏)

Big f man firstly and ma long's backhand block is designed to counter spin, I know that since I also play my block like him. And also, I know someone that played bundesliga for some time and he also told me that. And ma long doesn't have a weak backhand. He just didn't use it before because he still played his forehand dominant game, but he can't do that anymore since he's too old and slow. His backhand is, if he actually uses it, as strong as wang chuqin's backhand, but he uses it way better. That may change, since ma long has way more experience than wang chuqin, but not in a few weeks. Plus, it's also easy to say for you from your pc that wcq just has to put more spin onto the backhand, which is as I said not true firstly, but there's a reason why he didn't do that in the game. He didn't have the time to do it. Ma long placed his blocks, pushes and counters extremely well, so that wang couldn't do anything. So overall, the only real reason why ma long lost to wang chuqin all the times before is because he wanted to play like he was still 26, but his body couldn't do that anymore, so he hit a lot of edge and didn't get some shots. But he's now changed his style, and he's playing much calmer, and more strategic than before. He shortened the movements of some things, for example his forehand topspin. You couldn't really see any edges (still like 2 or 3 but that's a normal amount), since he doesn't "charge up" his forehand as much anymore. The movement is way shorter, so it has less power, but he places it better, and also is more consistent. Same with the backhand, he shortened the hip rotation movement to be faster overall. Plus, he places all of his balls so that the opponent can't give him any difficult placements. They also can't really put any special spin on the ball. Maybe ma long is gonna lose. Who knows. But. His chance of winning if he keeps up this style are higher than those of the other players. Since he counters left handers and is still stronger than all right handers.

well, i'd say most rubbers come out of the factory with some speed glue effect or some factory boost so that could be why, but i haven't used Felix's setup before so i wouldn't know

Training in China is why he’s is this good in the first place, and he was picked for world championships (where he lost to Boll that’s on him and Boll’s greatness tbh) and a lot of WTT events. Only Olympics is he not making it cuz you have to be top 2 to be in the singles and top 3-4 in China to be in the team event. But he gets to prove himself everywhere else and if he really is good enough he’ll go to next Olympics or the Olympics after that (he’s still young enough to fight for the opportunities ahead)
