Darius Milhaud - Chamber Symphony No. 1
- Composer: Darius Milhaud (4 September 1892 -- 22 June 1974)
- Orchestra: Orchestre de Radio Luxembourg
- Conductor: Darius Milhaud
- Year of recording: between 1968-1972
'Little Symphony' for chamber orchestra No. 1, "Le Printemps" {The Spring}, Op. 43, written in 1917.
00:00 - I. Allant
01:39 - II. Chantant
03:05 - III. Et Vif!
The first of Milhaud's forays into the symphony scored for small ensembles, this work, along with its five companions, is only a symphony in name. In fact, this work lasts little more than three minutes. Composed in Rio de Janiero, this music, using the polytonal elements characteristic of much of the composer's work during this time and after, maintains a pastoral, folkish feeling throughout. Milhaud's early melodies are simple, almost naïve to the point of comedy, perhaps this is why many of his early works are ignored. Sample the plaintive oboe melody of this work's second movement, or the persistent theme of the finale, to experience the composer's penchant for simple and direct musical utterances, sometimes a bit banal but frequently refreshing.
The 1st Chamber symphony is dedicated: "à Roger de Fontenay".

This is what give ME "Phish at the Sphere" feelings.
Idk how to say this but I feel that Stanchinsky is one of the least predictable composers from looking at the score in terms of how the music will sound
That 2nd Movt. My mind is blown.
¡Saludos!

I can see why Scriabin thought this music was haunted, there’s something about it that just doesn’t feel right 😬
I have to say, as a bass singer it feels uncanny to follow the bass line, but that's part of the beauty of it.

Wait, I thought this one did not have movements?
One of the difficulties of this piece is the nonstop arpeggios alternating between hands. It’s a very exhausting piece for an organist.
Grieg was like I am gonna write only one concerto. So i will serve them one that is all in one 😅
I can't stand when people say "I hate this/that". Do you hate it because you don't like it or because you don't understand it? I've fallen into that trap with Hindemith, where I used to say I didn't like his music, but then I started playing it and listening to it and im currently reading his treatice on composition and he is now one of my favorite 20th century composers. I implore people to give some of this music a chance. This sonata is actually a pleasant work to me, amd it could be for others as well if it is given a chance.
I listen to Xaver Scharwenka quite often. the first movement is rather spectacular. Xaver Scharwenka's 4th piano concerto is up there with Beethoven, Saint Saens, and Tchaikovsky.
No vaping shops and no Barbers. No litter. No spitting on pavements. No europop or rap music. No takeaways.
Complete this sentence: Enoch Powell was... .
Beethoven's last quartets and piano sonatas are still studied (and not understood) because of their remarkable creativity. Most composers' best years come when they're much younger. Beethoven was most creative on his deathbed.
Belíssimo ❤
Ap music theory exam 2024?
hell yeah XDD
The final chords in score don't correspond with the music as played.
Based stanchinsky!
The first 2 bars of the violin 1 are one of the motifs in Verklärte Nacht. Or am I wrong?
It was illegal to sing "La Marseillaise" in Vienna at the time this piece was written. It was considered pro-revolutionary music and that didn't sit well with the Austrian Empire and Emperor Franz Joseph I.
Poor pianist! These people are gladiators!
It's like listening to a guy that built a bicycle out of sticks in the woods.
i don't see how u do the left hand ornamentation, it's way too fast to do
i don't see myself playing this piece any time soon
15:51, very strange. I would swear I can hear a brass section! Beautiful voicing.
Today would be his birthday
My main complaint with this piece is Mendelssohn not giving enough of the other 7 strings a chance at the fast moving melodies: just letting only the top 1st violinist have the line all to themselves. I've always wanted the other players to DOUBLE those 1st violin parts, to make it stronger.
this will be what i cite as inspiration until i die. what a masterpiece
Perfect songs to read the subjective forms of the clouds and to follow with a tender eye the grooves of the stems of the trees; appreciate the complex writing of the nested branches, taste the colors of the decomposition of light into water droplets in a garden, and strongly feel the wet soil of ancestral forest to perceive the traces of animals from deep past 🤠🤓
it's raining!
concerto for piano and cello accompaniment
sorry, but this sonata concept is far too cumbersome...I am a great admirer of Rachmaninov `s etudes, preludes and concertos...but i will always prefer his second sonata....
In measure 15 of the second movement, the 64th rest in the viola part should be a 32nd rest. 9:32 Sorry, couldn't resist.

Mvnt 1: Accepting that the test is gonna be difficult and you may not do well. Making your peace Mvnt 2: Forgetting that conclusion and panicking during the test anyway Mvnt 3: Near the end you finally get some clear headdresses, you try. Mvnt 4: After the test, furious with what little bursts of energy you have left. Angry for your failure, the unnecessary stress, your forgetfulness, all of it. Mvnt 5: Calculating your grades after the rage dies down.

20:00 did the pianist add some extra notes in the treble to “second” the main theme the orchestra is playing? It sounds beautiful but I can’t connect his playing to the score. Hearing some accented G#, A, and Bs. Just brilliant.
