Ep120. Don't Forget the "Intermittent" in Intermittent Fasting
Have you ever tried intermittent fasting, lost a few pounds, but then seemingly got stuck on a weight plateau?
If you have, don't worry, this story is incredibly common and it usually stems from one thing: we forget to keep the "intermittent" in "intermittent fasting. What I mean by this is that as humans we have a tendency to fall into behavioral patterns, and in turn, our bodies adopt a new homeostasis to accommodate the changes. It's all in the name of keeping us alive!
So when somebody starts a fasting protocol and sticks with it, eventually the body catches up and does its best to keep things running steady. That's when the plateau happens, and that's when people typically drop IF.
So that begs the question... is IF even a good solution for weight loss?
The simple answer is YES, it is as long as we stay true to what it is meant to be, which is INTERMITTENT. So in this episode of the Vibrant Menopause Podcast I'm going to be talking about the various ways that you can keep IF intermittent and avoid that lousy plateau. It's a short episode, but I promise that you'll walk away with a revitalized and simple view of IF that can help you reach your weight loss goals.
Enjoy, and please consider sharing this episode and subscribing to the podcast. Thank you!

I love these obgyns who aren’t even perimenopausal age think their expertise is hormones. I had one who was in her late 30’s that hadn’t even heard of bio-identical hormones and she’s telling me that they will give me ovarian cancer.

I just had a male obgyn tell me that bio identical hormones are basically a scam because they cannot be absorbed into the body. He's recommending low dose bc. I know there is a place for that too....but why is bio identical villanized when the combo pill is not only a higher dose but has worse risks

At 38:45 the woman on the right said the WHI had two groups, one group was estrogen only, and the other group was estrogen and progesterone. That is INCORRECT. In fact, it was estrogen and progestin NOT progesterone which is very different from progesterone. That woman on the right misstated this very important distinction, which is quite concerning given she’s talking about women’s health. I surely hope that she’s not the doctor. Not to know the difference between progestin, which is cancer-causing and progesterone, which is not cancer-causing and is a hormone that is found in the human body is quite concerning. Progestin is never found in the human body. The fact that she does not make that distinction is a red flag to me.

Interesting that testosterone for women is not mentioned until the end. Normally, testosterone is the highest level of hormone in women, and above the estrogen level. Testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone work together in tandem. I exercise 3-5 times weekly at the gym, and testosterone is imperative. If you're no longer interested in sex and orgasm, then you need testosterone as well for libido, energy, decreased depression and anxiety, higher muscle mass and bone density, and improved skin. I love my pellets. They are worth every penny. I keep up with my A1C and lipids and get a regular hormone panel. The dosage has to do with the relief of symptoms minus any side effects. We are NOT all the same needing the same hormone dosage. Yes, I feel 100% better than the 30 years of HRT protective benefits that I missed due to the now-debunked WHI study. You are never too old for HRT!

I’ve been on hormones since my late 20s for a medical condition and I’m now nearly 50. I can tell you the information shared here is NOT accurate. Synthetic and natural estrogen are not the same molecule and don’t work exactly the same in the body. Progestins are also not the same as natural progesterone. Progesterone is needed for much more than just the lining of the uterus. It is responsible for many functions ranging from neurotransmitter modulation to bone remodeling. If you can afford it ask for the natural form of these molecules and insist on getting progesterone even if your uterus has been removed.

Well that wouldbe fun, having (fake) "periods" again, wouldn't it?! NOPE to fake hormones for most women. Oral or otherwise, except for short-term use during peri-menopause and shortly after. My symptoms disappeared on their own by a few years after my last period.

It is outrageous what I am seeing from doctors right now. And these two are not the only ones, that Dr. Haver also pushes cancer-causing options such as the marina coil which has progestin in it. An informed woman knows progesterone is much different than progestin and that progestin causes cancer which has been well known for decades yet you have these two as well as Dr. Haver suggesting it as an option.

I learned about progesterone intolerance on the Menopause Matters forum. I really wanted to love it, and I do love my estradiol. I have a uterus, so a progestogen is required to oppose. But progesterone made me miserable with all the side effects. I tried every variation and dose that is approved for endometrial protection. I am grateful that there are other options because I really need my estradiol. Progestins are still safe with just a slightly higher risk profile. As we know, the WHI was misreported. And there are several progestin options including the Mirena IUD and combined patches.

Question...I read the book "Estrogen Matters" by Avrum Bluming and Carol Tavris MD, and this book points to Premarin versus bioidentical hormone as the best choice for HRT. However, Premarin does not seem to be talked about anymore when it comes to estrogen replacement. I'm now confused - I agree on the comment about bioidentical hrt being a marketing term. It doesn't seem like anyone is saying - other than this book - that Premarin should be considered. I'm wondering if you have an opinion about Premarin (pill) versus Bioidentical estrogen.

I just had a total hysterectomy 6 weeks ago and no longer have cervix, uterus, or ovaries. Without a cervix, can we use the vaginal ring? I am 57 and had post menopausal bleeding. I had hyperplasia complex with atypical cells and that's why I needed the hysterectomy. My labs afterwards came back that I had some precancerous cells but no cancer. I have type 2 diabetes and take Mounjaro. I am having hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, vaginal dryness, and vaginal atrophy. My gynocologist had me check my veins and I had a leg ultrasound and showed no blood clots, but some hidden varicose veins. My legs are very chubby and I was diagnosed with lipodema. My gynecologist is on vacation and I am researching my hormone replacement options. I have heard good things about the vaginal ring but not sure if that is an option for me since I dont have a cervix. I am also considering trying a pea sized bit of testosterone. A tiny bit of testosterone and either vaginal estergen cream or a vaginal ring. What are your thoughts?
