      Deer do not have access to this plant. In the wild, if there are no other options they will eat the succulent stems. All the native Azaleas are worth growing and worth protecting.

    What are the light requirements for rootings? I've heard that the new cuttings should be kept away from intense light until they have produced roots. Do you agree?

    • @stevenkristoph6993
      @stevenkristoph6993 Před 2 měsíci

      All cutting propagation that I do is done in a greenhouse with bottom heat and under intermittent mist. The greenhouse is located in full sun. In the summer months, the bottom heat isn't necessary and I do have a shade cloth providing 30% cover to the cuttings being rooted. If you're propagating under just a humidity dome, then your cuttings need to be shaded nore

But you gave me the opportunity to see what it's looking like nowadays. Maybe when the Susquehanna really freezes you can get there to make another video of the ice blocks that build up and even get pushed on shore, like at Wrightsville about 20 some years ago and more than once in the past.

  • @thenatureconservancymid-at1486

    Hi Steven, thanks for your perspective! TNC shares your affinity for this incredible preserve. A 2021 inspection revealed that the dam was in danger of breaching, and it would have been cost prohibitive to continue maintaining the degrading barrier. Prior to removal, the beaver lodge had already been empty for over a year (none were trapped or relocated), and the new stream channel may end up being even better habitat for them. We would love for the beavers to come back! While the forest will indeed take time to grow, our science team is optimistic that this effort will ultimately promote healthier species habitat and landscape connectivity in the long run. For more information about what we did and why, please watch our video about the project: czcams.com/video/FvQ2dP40_Ko/video.html

Fortunately, I know a couple of experienced mushroom foragers who can verify any new species I add to my repertoire. It's important for me personally to get my mushrooms identified by an actual person and not just rely on photographs and videos. It's for my own piece of mind.
