T8 Display problem - Temporary video
Clock keeps resetting. I'm going to see if it's a heat problem as the display was hot in the sun. Is there a button battery for the clock? Does the battery have to be connected all the time for the display to work? In the morning the clock didn't reset early in the morning when it was cool. Why heat would cause a clock to reset I don't know. It's almost like those old cars where the clock runs off the battery and you disconnect the battery the clock stops. It's not a show stopper but it's annoying as all hell to keep changing the clock everyday. Also the trip time is off but I don't care as much about that.

    Important update: Ok the vendor, God bless their hearts, definitely tried to help me figure out the time issue.(Very nice people) It's basically an automotive clock.(I'm assuming they bitched at their supplier/designer) I don't know how many people here have had a motorcycle or a car with a clock that runs off the battery but it's basically the same thing. If you have a car or motorcycle in my case where the battery is connected for a minimum of 5 years before you swap out the battery, it will run just fine for that time that the battery is connected as it's using almost zero power. Ok no problem. Here's the rub, eventually on an E-bike you're going to have to take the battery off frequently to charge the damn thing at least in my case. Maybe if you charge the bike with the battery connected in a garage or an apartment, hey no big deal. But if you need to disconnect the battery to charge for any reason, the date, time and clock will reset. I think Billy f^cked up again. Who would design a clock for an E-bike where battery charging is a must, that wouldn't have say a watch battery providing power to the clock? Now here's the thing, if you ride you bike and the controller capacitors have stored up enough charge to provide that power to the clock which will use much less power, it will keep time for around 2 hours or so before dying. Also the ride time, is VERY accurate. As soon as you're above 1km/h the ride time will start counting. So I'm obviously going to erase this video and do a proper review, because the accuracy of the speedometer and odometer is extremely accurate which is what I wanted in the first place. Like I'm talking dead on with GPS accurate which is kind of surprising. So watch out for a new video very soon.

  • @chrissinclair8705
    @chrissinclair8705 Před měsícem

    Ok the vendor is contacting his "engineer" I'm assuming he's bitching at the company who made it. It does give a firmware version at startup. Firmware upgrade? Also, I've noticed something, I left the display on all night(clock works fine then) without riding it or blipping the throttle and the run time is zero. So I'm wondering if I'm wrong and the run time is HYPER ACCURATE. Either it's measuring when you are actually moving or measuring when the controller is actively getting juice. So say when you stop at a stop light for a minute or two, it's not counting those minutes because the controller is not actively engaging the motor. If so than I'm wrong and the run time is not just a dumb clock that we're all used to but ACTUAL running time of controller or you moving. I'll try a test and run the bike on the stand until the runtime says a minute then park it with it on and see if the clock goes up with time or stays still with no juice to the controller. Or it could only start the clock when you are actually moving instead of just turning on the bike. If so than it's more like a generator or tractor that has hours runtime not miles, which in theory is better than a dumb clock. All this stuff should have been in the manual. EDIT: Confirmed. As soon as the speedometer is above zero the ":" on the runtime clock starts blinking. As soon as the speed is zero the ":" goes solid. Nice! So the running time is HYPER ACCURATE, it's only counting time when the bike is actually moving instead of just standing still. All this stuff should have been in the manual. If I can get this to work, I'll make a huge review video explaining all this shit that should have been in the manual which is basically a little paper explaining how to get it working, not what it does.

    Well I saw an Amazon review on this display and it seems the clock doesn't hold the date and time for some reason. Then why the fuck have it on there? I'd rather have nothing. Anyway I'll keep the display because of the accuracy but if I was going on an all day ride then I'd set the clock because it will hold the time for up to a couple of hours. I have a feeling there is no watch battery or whatever and it's just running from either an internal capacitor stored charge or the capacitor charge off the controller. Since I take the battery off the bike to charge it, it's not trickling in charge into the wiring harness. When you shut your battery to "off" it's still trickling out a small charge. I get 2.5-5 volts fluctuating from the battery just sitting there on my desk with a multi meter on it. So if you leave your battery on your bike, even off, it's enough juice to probably top up the capacitor and run the clock. Once the capacitor is full it will take less charge from the battery. I think they basically cheaped out and are using this effect, instead of spending 20 cents on an internal watch battery. So you basically can't take your battery off your bike to charge it for long. Yeah that's great for an ebike that needs to charge their battery frequently and can't charge on the bike. Glad I paid no where near Amazon prices. Hell you could have charged an extra dollar and made profit on the watch battery. Like even with the ride time being about %15 too slow it would have been a no brainer buy. I'll leave the 14amp battery on it all night set to "off" and see if the clock is good in the morning. Since this has a throttle key lock, I'll see if that works or not. Without the key lock it would definitely have worked.

      Odometer or speedometer way out of wack. You can make the speedometer accurate or the odometer accurate but not both. The best I could do was about %10 off. Trust me I tried it all. If it worked I wouldn't have even bothered buying a new one. This display is hyper accurate less than 123 meters off at 38.1 kilometers and that's not the displays fault, this bike has only 1 speed magnet so there is a slight delay when you come to a stop so it still thinks you a rolling slowly for a second or two. Those little seconds add up the mileage a bit. If you were not stopping in a city like me at traffic lights, etc, it's dead on with GPS. Like down to the second with Strava. I just want the clock to work if possible. If it doesn't I'm still keeping it for the accuracy.

Anyone who's owned real dirtbikes know this doesn't have the power or the strength to do serious dirt bike riding. The best best is to put a piece of plastic or something to block the hole from the tire spray and at least tape up the hole in the controller box. It's an easy 10 minute fix. hey i bought this bike but my frame keeps squeaking, what should i do? it’s really annoying

    • @chrissinclair8705
      @chrissinclair8705 Před měsícem

      It's the swing arm. As you saw in the video it's a 2 piece axle. Undo the bolt on the crank side but leave the right hand axle bushing in there so you can take out the left side without the bike falling down. Take the left piece of the axle and put your favorite flavor of grease(I use Permatex synthetic gear grease, link in description) on the inside circumference of the left hand bushing and insert it back into it's position in the swing arm so it can be used to hold the swing arm together while you take out the right side bushing. You may need to use a screwdriver or a knife blade to gently work out the right hand bushing as it's usually the tightest as the bolt is there. Take out the right hand side and put grease on the inside of the bushing. Remember not to get grease in either side on the threads. It's just going to make it that much easier to work itself out. Apply blue locktite(not red you will need to re-grease it occasionally) to the bolt as it can and will work itself out which is dangerous on the road. I also put a little triflow with teflon in between the swing arm axle holes and the frame just to be sure. If you want I'll do a video on it. They overtorque that bolt because it's obvious it's a problem as the new axle they sent me has a washer and blue locktite already pre-applied. It's an easy fix though. Also sometimes the kickstand will squeek going over bumps so I put a little of that triflow(great bike lube, chain, studs, anything) on the rivets the kickstand pivots on and that killed that squeek as well. I'll put all of this in the description so you have an idea of what I'm using and pick something up locally or online. The triflow is a drip bottle so don't squeeze it it will flow on it's own by gravity or surface tension if you are applying it to a chain. You don't need much. When it dries it will leave a thin coating of teflon on mated surfaces.

    • @chrissinclair8705
      @chrissinclair8705 Před měsícem

      It picks up 1.5 to 2km/h depending on the situation. You see the most when there is adverse conditions. Like I go to work everyday a certain route. I notice that I'm climbing hills faster, accelerating faster, less speed drop in heavy head winds, etc. Top is about the same which is due to max rpm of the motor its probably 1 km/h faster. It also keeps speed faster as the battery goes down, because the power is reducing slightly but it doesn't have to fight the tires to keep a higher speed. I noticed I picked up another 5km per charge on a 17amp ride hard range test 42.5km vs 37.5km with the knobbies, so obviously it's using slightly less power keeping higher speed with the lower rolling resistance. My next set I may order those Innova street slicks but I'll order from a different Chinese seller and take the chance. Definitely not ordering them from the one who folded them up like a spaghetti. I just needed to get off those knobbies fast, so I got the Big Boats. Very happy with them so far. Edit: Did sort of a range test today, mixed riding with lots of high speed PAS5 in there in heavy winds got 44.78km on Strava with the 17amp battery before bumping up against low voltage cutoff under load.

    IMPORTANT: I've just done a calibration test on my odometer and at 22.8 wheel diameter the speed is more accurate but the odometer is around 10% TOO LOW. The true range for this battery in this test is 37.5 km. I'm going to do an odometer and speed calibration video coming soon. I found some settings in the display that will make both accurate. I did a quick range test with the big boat street tires on there and got 38.6km with the 10% speedometer error and 42.4km true. The wind was similar, maybe a bit less, and it seems the big boat street tires with the lower rolling resistance increased range a bit.
