Good morning Guy (which actually is my last name lol). I didn't really know anything about iRacing other than what I've seen here and on twitch, so I'm very new to it and taking it slowly. I've been doing ACC, AC and rfactor2 over on twitch now and then but mostly offline as I'm so green. I decided to give iracing a go and do a live each time I go on there. I'm using the Cammus C5 wheel and for the moment I'm using the CP5 pedals (I'm not overly happy with these as I thing I have a duff brake pedal, I've contacted racesim who I bought them from). I've just ordered the Simsonn load cell pedals, which will be here in a couple of weeks. I have the GTOmega Classic wheel stand. I bought this because I can just add to it to create the entire cockpit at some point (when finances allow). The PC is nothing special really, I built it on the fly so to speak and have been donated a GTX 1660ti. I'm running an i3 10100 with 16 GB of RAM. 2 SSDs and 1 HDD (2.5TB in all). Compared to the other sims, this is closest to rf2 and also so far it's the most difficult, I think that's down to my dodgy brake pedal though as it only works in the last 1/2 inch to inch of travel. This makes trail braking impossible. I'm doing the AI races at the moment too and am attempting the odd practice session to try to raise the safety rating (again I discovered this isn't a good idea with my current pedal issue). Maybe we will "bump" into each other on the track, that would be cool to be fair lol. Thanks for the comment dude and keep on keeping on. We'll get there eventually.

@@just-another-guy Hi, here another 55 year old bloke active in iRacing (on and off since 2013 though). Regarding safety rating, you will not gain or lose any in practice sessions. The only sessions in which you can gain safety rating are race, qualify and time trial sessions. Good luck in your new career!

Oh cool, nice to know. Thanks Arthur, much appreciated info. I have to admit, I do love doing this. It's great fun and keeps you thinking, which at our age, is never a bad thing lol.

@@just-another-guy Yes, it is great fun indeed. Especially now I have invested in a simrig and decent equipment. That is the plus side of being a bit older, you seem to be able to afford a little more on a hobby like this.

@@Arthur-Tromp Yep it does tend to get on the expensive side. I would recommend anyone wanting to get into it, to try cheaper options first. I'm around £600 in on equipment only right now. Then you have the actual sims on top of that, then the extras etc etc. It goes on and on lol. I can probably add another £400 to it with seat and back of the rig, monitor stand etc. Then you're looking at upgrading the monitors, it can snowball if you don't keep yourself in check lol

Thanks dude. Yep I switched off the driving line today and to be honest, it does make it easier. I'm enjoying it, hard to do but a lot of fun learning.

@@just-another-guy oh forgot(rear powered car or supercars still need some TC like 20% just because 0% is not realistic, its more for drift sessions)

I started on Silv with the Fiat and was doing 1:24, shut off the TC and got it down to solid 1:20s, will hit it again tomorrow and work out the cornering and braking a bit better as that seems to be where I'm losing time. I'm just struggling to trust the car you know? It's a me thing, almost like a mental block. I'll break through it though. I think that after a week of doing to same course with the same car, I'll figure it out. Thanks again for you help. Oh and I did switch off the racing line.
