10yo me would’ve watched the fuck out of this video

As someone who was lucky enough to see and purchase a grail item in a hobby, it's something incredibly special to hold something of a very specific history. I hit purchase and I shook with a pleasure beyond divine, I was so worried that the mail would brutalized it so I drove to their headquarters and picked it up, and it was everything I hoped it would be. And I was happy to have it displayed in my house.

This is an example of a deck I would hate playing against or with, but something I love watching in action.

Only now do I wonder why there wasn't a crossover like "Highlander: Magic Gathering for the Quickening"

i used to know people who would peel foil yugioh cards to confirm their authenticity, absolute idiots. i would also never bend test a card, no matter how expensive. heck i don't even slightly bend cards during play.

I get it, there is nuance, technically the symbolism is interesting, and people went too wild with it on twitter (though they nearly always do). But the art still looks like trash. In the context of other MTG art it does look look unfinished, like it was made in paint, like it was a high school art project someone got a C+ on. If more magic cards looked like this, it would decrease how much I would want to play the game - and I don’t think I’m alone there.

looking at her other work. Faithless looting is by far the art I like least from her catalogue, it's one of the most challenging and one of the least well tailored to small art frames. She has other work I like a lot.

What gives collectibles, and works of art, and similar things their value is a very interesting concept. It's called "essentialism" (the term has many different meanings, this is just one of them, I wish they'd use a different term but this is what we've got for now). Fundamentally, essentialism is the false and entirely irrational belief that objects have their history attached to them. It is false because the history of an object plays no role in the reality of the object, how it is affected by physics, or anything else. There is no objective test which can be done to determine the history of an object. It is a history that exists nowhere except in the minds of human beings. Even understanding this, you won't be "cured" of this flaw, as it is intrinsically human and is a byproduct of how our brain works. It's also the key to understanding the "Ship of Theseus" problem.

It's quite a shame, because many of Carly's works are truly stunning, but to me, there is something lacking in faithless looting. The dress being a single, bright red color clashes with the detail present in the rest of the cultist, and the hood feels detached and out of place. The eyes, as well, are disconcerting and feel cheap. I love many things about it, but ultimately it feels like it needs more work done to reach a finished product.

kind of breaks my heart seeing MTG go from this to what it is now. a collection of 5 or 6 top decks with exceedingly minor tweaks and nothing novel allowed to be played.

i'm glad i have some great friends who legit have been getting back into the game and also giving me there cards as they have 30 years of the card game and still growing so I'm always never short on Commons UC and Rares sometimes the higher Rarity if they have a lot of it.

New magic player of around 2 years. this was the first card i saw in a stores binder that i HAD to have, and the guy behind the counter seemed so disgusted. in my commander deck still :)

I remain astonished at your ability to find and present the sort of Capital-T Truth that can typically only be had in our highest pursuits. Consistently, you point at a corner pocket of this card game only to wind up showing me something urgent and enormous, something that gives warmth to the hopeful parts of head and heart. Man, I hope you know that Rhystic Studies, like all good art, is f**king soul affirming stuff. It's important for reasons that have almost nothing to do with MTG. My past few years have been very, very dark. But there have been days when listening to your stuff made it just possible enough for me to find my way back to a survivable path through the Blind Eternities. Thank you for that. If ever there was someone worthy to hold the lantern of insight, it's you. Shine on.

I had a magic origins deck builders toolkit my dad purchased for me on a whim during the summer of 2015. I was a Boy Scout, and there was a good contingent of boys who played in the troop. I remember giving my friend Paul all my cards and asking him to help sculpt s deck for me. Atarka, World Render sat rubber banded to the front of a chaff Gruul deck i often played. The card was destroyed. I think i still have a copy of Ugin the spirit dragon that resided within that deck.
