Welcome to ‘The Midnight Express’ channel!
follow along as i teach myself how to weld, fabricate, do body work, and make my own tools to achieve my ultimate goal of building a pro touring classic Chevy truck.
I'm just a regular guy working in a single car garage and in my yard, I don't have a background in automotive or fabrication. I've been a truck driver for 20 years and I'm wanting more in life. A more full filling life.
I hope my videos help inspire someone to take a chance in life and start a project they've been wanting/thinking about doing. It takes money but you don't have to have piles of it.
Follow me as I build my own tools to turn a rusty truck I saved in to a #protouring truck

Yeah I need to get back at it and get some welding projects done..
I'm having so much fun learning how to do all the things in metal fab and welding.
And Arccaptain has some great products.
@@RenegadesGarage I have 4 of their machines. And I honestly don't have any issues or complaints.
@@MidnightCustoms-C20 Yes sir I have their TIG200 and their MIG200 and so far they are awesome. I'm supposed to get their new CUT55 plasma cutter and I'm sure it will be a great machine too.
@RenegadesGarage so I have some questions about TIG welding. 1. How do you do it ? I've never even tried it before and want to learn
@@MidnightCustoms-C20 It is easy and very clean compared to other process of welding. Just make sure not to dip the tungsten into the puddle or weld pool. If you do just clean it and resharpen it before continuing. A lot of good video on TIG welding.
I wouldn't worry what anybody else says. They can pound sand.
I'm not worried about. They definitely can. Do that lol
How did you install that middle axle? Never seen it before
@@adnanbashir4584 that I don't know. I believe they ordered the trailer that way. Or the shop put it on before I worked here
😮
That is awesome brother!!
Great video. New subscriber so need to catch up on this project and what's going on. Kudos to Chad and Peyton for the Super Clean supplies. I use the stuff they sent me a lot. Look forward to more on the C20 and anything else you got going on. Be safe and stay well.
@@briankinnear7461 thank you! Chad and Peyton are awesome! Their channel is great and a lot of fun to watch.
@briankinnear7461 the Chevy project is a slow progress, but it's moving forward
Good Job!
Thank you!
Nice! How are you liking the arc captain
@MXHEADSHOTZ I have zero complaints about the Arc captain I really like their machines ALOT
@@MidnightCustoms-C20 nice can’t wait to order the mig 200 within a week or so. Just found your channel keep it up bro
@MXHEADSHOTZ thank you!! I think you're gonna love the mig200 I know I do!
@@MXHEADSHOTZ I subscribed to your channel bro
@@MidnightCustoms-C20 appreciate it. I don’t really ever upload but its definitely appreciated
Cool. I farted last night and did that to my shorts. Lol
@@1776_Garage 🤣🤣🤣😷
Sweet!!!
Nice job, I do it, especially outside in the wind.
Yeah I have to work on it in the wind. The wind never stops at my place.
@@MidnightCustoms-C20 I think it’s a good choice in that case 👍
Hopefully next year we will move to a place with a shop or atleast a 2 car garage. That'll make things easier.
@@MidnightCustoms-C20 No doubt!!
I need to get a better one. Still using my harbor freight brake 10 years later. It does ok for what I use it for I guess
I have the little desk top harbor freight one. But it wasn't strong enough for 16 gauge
Beefy
@@WhiskeyDents hopefully I don't have to build another one after this lol
Sweet
Looking forward to seeing it done,👍
😮😮😮 WELDER ,, DON'T USE YOU GOOD METAL ,, USE SOME OTHER .METAL TO Practice ON TO SET YOUR AMP. LOWER TRY SMALLER ROD ,, TURN DOWN WELDER ,, TAKE OFF NEW TIRES BEFORE HOT SPARKS BURN RUBBER KEEP GOING 👍
That will be nice and very strong. I'm glad I'm not the only one using an arc welder often!!!
i think i like it better than wire feed, honestly! for heavier weldments that is. sheet metal and thinner stuff not so much lol... i think in a week or two im gonna order a tig torch for my big welder and try that
@@MidnightCustoms-C20 You can make really nice looking welds with the tig. You have total control.
@@EdgeofEternityBillCameron any advice for a beginner on tig welding ?
@@MidnightCustoms-C20 Practice and start with thick material. Don’t add any filler rod in the beginning, but use the torch to get and maintain a good puddle. After that, try fusing two pieces together without any filler rod. I do that a lot on body panels. The point is to watch the puddle on each side. I still do these things for practice, especially with new materials.
Awesome!! Thank you!!
Great start. Can't wait to see more
me too !
That should work just fine!
i'm thinking so too !
Lt Dan lost its legs. Lol
lol after just getting them
Awesome! 😎 👍
Thanks for your review, I really hope more people will use our machine, they can feel that we are a company that is really focused on making products
I really like your machines. They work great!
Looks better than I could do right now
you can do it too bud its just practice, practice. practice.
Don't worry about it looking perfect that what body filer is for. Pole barn garage did worse and just put body filer in it and still looks great.i recommend watching his most recent video. He made me realize it doesn't have to be perfect
oh im not worried about it lol... im just commenting on it from my skill level. i will look that channel up and check his vidoes out, thanks Tanner!
@MidnightCustoms-C20 ya he is also a funny guy
That panel actually looks good. I'm wondering how you bent it to look like the rest of the panel.
i built a T-dolly from a piece of pipe and flat bar that i can clamp in a vice. then i use some spring clamps to hold the sheet metal to the dolly and slowly started bending the sheet metal around the dolly. and after every small movement to the piece im making i take out to the truck and chech to see if its the right shape or close enough to start tacking in and then tweak it to fit as im welding.
czcams.com/video/9AxwSrzPunM/video.htmlsi=BFbPICDkYNYf1wVE heres the video on how i made the T-dolly
Does your Arc Captain have MIG capability? The reason I ask is flux core runs much hotter which increases the risk of warpage and burn through. I agree with Bill on hammering and dollying the weld line.
This particular welder is flux core only. But I have a mig 200 that does run gas. The reason I am running flux core on this truck, is because the truck won't fit in the garage and it's always breezy/windy at my place
@@MidnightCustoms-C20 👍
If you have a 1/4” pneumatic die grinder they work good. They take a little longer but you shouldn’t grind through. Get it close and hammer and dolly the weld line. It will look great 👍I use a 2” roloff 60 or 80 grit.
I think I have one of those die grinders. I'll have to look in the tool box. Do I need to hammer and dolly when the weld is hot or do I wait until it cools ?
@@MidnightCustoms-C20 You can do it either way. On light metal I would start by grinding it to close to finished, then check the surface with your hand and use the hammer and dolly. On thicker material you can hammer hot, but in my experience I’d rather not. I can always add heat with a torch, but we have to be careful to not stretch the and create distortion on the surface. Then we have problems. You could take some of your samples or practice pieces, and practice grinding down the welds, do hammer and dolly experimenting and see what works best for you.
@@MidnightCustoms-C20If you don’t have one let me know.
@@EdgeofEternityBillCameron thank you for the awesome advice and tips! im going to work on that today and see how it goes
@@EdgeofEternityBillCameron i will check on if i have one im pretty sure i do and let ya know.
I'll be doing the same thing on my 72 gmc pickup for the winter project. I've got to get it nice for my kids high school daily here in a few years so I'll start on the body this winter. I'll be watching all your videos as they come
That's awesome!! I had a 70' GMC in high-school. Thank you! I'm gonna be making a bunch of videos on everything I do to the truck. It might not be pretty but I'm learning. I'll be watching your videos too.
Got to save on that stuff 👍
Brother I was at the local farm and ranch store yesterday and they wanted $21 for a single 1lb spool. So I left empty handed lol
@@MidnightCustoms-C20 That is outrageous!!!!! I just did some aluminum tig welding for a guy and that type of rod is super expensive too, and it isn’t even on a spool. Prices are crazy
Everything is over priced these days. Makes it hard for a fella to have a hobby with the cost of supplies. I want to learn how to tig weld.
@@MidnightCustoms-C20 Everything expensive. On tig welding, don’t let anyone tell you it’s too hard. It’s not. Just like stick and mig, it takes practice, but it’s not too hard. You will pick it up with no trouble with your attitude towards learning and doing.
Bigger hammer bro 😅
@@whoiswaynereynolds5457 🤣 I got a 9 pounder named the classic lol
@MidnightCustoms-C20 sweet! I was just kidding though. Better to repair a damaged panel than to have that cutting disk bite your face or hand or anything
I completely agree with you! It's hard to fix my face than a piece of steel lol
That is impressive! Nice welding right out of the box. I think Arc Captain is giving Yes Welder heartburn. You are great at explaining things 👍
@EdgeofEternityBillCameron thank you! I'm really happy with Arc Captains machines. I think they make a really great product! I just explain things the same way I learn and understand. I don't want to leave anything out and things not make sense lol
@MidnightCustoms-C20 what amp rating is your 110v circuit, 20A? What's the max Amps you wire welded at?
My 110v plug is dedicated at 25amps I used the mig145 maxed out in the video welding 1/4 & 1/2" coupons I had zero issues, welds held great in the torcher test with a 9lb hammer
@@MidnightCustoms-C20 That welder and you do great. I’m going to keep an eye on their multiprocess welders. I could save some space with one machine.
@EdgeofEternityBillCameron the MIG200 does everything except plasma cutting. I have an affiliate link and discount code in the description
