I recently visited, 'Brighton Pier' not too long ago while I was in that end of the country and thought to myself, ''Why not visit this area for real to see if any of this stuff was specifically made for this Ident or if it indeed was real'' I was surprised to see that this was a real coaster. I thought the name, 'Turbo' for the coaster was just used for the ident but was in fact, real. Can't believe it's still in use from when this Ident was filmed. Was the, 'Whack a Mole' machine a real thing back then too? That doesn't seem to be there anymore if that was indeed the case but, the dodgem area behind the Whack a Mole machine in this ident is still there. Some construction effects are underway near Turbo too but, also, that yellow painted, catapult like crane ride at around 0:09 in the background, doesn't seem to be there either, nor does those funhouse like, tents in the background around 0:13 in. It's a cool little area, shame it's not as cool looking as it looks in this ident but things change overtime I suppose, even if it is for the worst most of the time. I didn't stick around long enough to see if any of this lightning was actual used in the evening when it got dark or, if it indeed, looked similar to this decade but if it wasn't for this ident, I would never of scouted out for this most likely so I thank you and the original team that worked on this!

Wow what a trip down memory! I only remember seeing this 2008, Sky 1, 2 and 3 'Whack' ident a handful of times but man, has it stuck with me throughout all of these years. Great work by Jon Yeo and the team at Sky from all the way back in 2008! Man, I wish the idents of today were still as engaging, fun and with personality like these Sky 1, 2 and 3 idents. 2008 really was a different time period, literally, if only one could go back to that decade! The idents of today (the ones that still remain) polarising compared to the 2008 idents. The newer ones from a little under 10 years ago are boring, homogenous, corporate, lack style and any sort of personality. It seems like there's no true passion in the world of marketing and advertising of today, only dollar signs and sale margins matter. I think Sky 1 no longer exists but is now generically titled, 'Sky Showcase' I believe? I bet it didn't take them long to find a replacement name, very generic. Back to the ident, I love how at 0:01 it sounds like the Turbo coaster is still reverberating to around 0:05 - 0:06 seconds onwards like a real rollercoaster would in a large, open space. Great bit of sound work and also to make it fade into that experimental pier, funfair sounding track at around 0:04 onwards is great! Another great feature on the, 'Whack a Mole' machine is how when the Boy and Girl are whacking the Sky 1, 2 and 3 logo's, (throughout all three) some of them are missed and not hit. Great little detail there! The logo's for all three Sky Channels look detailed, glass like, reminds me of the, 'Frutiger Aero' style very much, especially the detail and the glass look. The logo's for the various Sky channels of today are flat looking and minimalistic, not good at all! I love Freefarm's work but, It's a shame they never released these idents music tracks separately, without the effects. I still visit this and the many other Sky 1, 2 and 3 idents from around this time period often. They are standout and very organic, I love it. This is everything a ident should be, memorable, one you visit all these years later and watch with awe. Thanks Jon!

Sky Showcase: Glass Sky Replay: Slime Sky Mix: Glitter Or Fireworks

On a recently dive of old idents and infomercials from the late 90s to the early 2000s and boy do I remember this one. It's great and beats a lot of stuff that's put out today. Jon Yeo and the rest of the team there really did a standout job. Very nostalgic and very brilliant. The music and sound effects is very trippy, very ethereal and unmatched. The shards when the bullet hits the Sky 1 logo as it shatters at 0:10 is a great bit of CGI work by the VFX team. It's shame stuff like this in todays world of advertising and idents is few and far between. The late 90s to the early 2000's is like a fever dream. It's tragic how we went from stuff like what's in this 2008 ident to the very bland now.
