    Sounds great to me Michael! What are your thoughts about the instrument? Can you share a comparison with the original in wood? It seems that you can play with a very full sound on it, but then I’m listening on a cell phone. I’ve never heard an early flute with that much volume.

    • @MichaelLynnFlute
      @MichaelLynnFlute Před 5 dny

      There is actually no wooden copy of this flute and the original no longer exists - evidently it was stolen from someone in a train station. Luckily it had been measured and this flute was made based on those measurements. It does have a nice full sound - some of that is because of the lower pitch of A=400 - generally the higher flutes are pitched, the brighter and less full they sound. Listen to the other two flutes in this series, the 3D Bizey and Tortochot. I think their volume is about the same. All three were recorded in exactly the same way to make comparing them easier.

    • @fluteflaut
      @fluteflaut Před 5 dny

      Thanks for your very interesting reply. So sad that there isn’t an original, but isn’t the flute world lucky to have a beautiful sounding copy! Thank you for this wonderful, informative video. I especially loved the point about the different fingering changed the colours in the early flutes. It illustrates how music in different keys changed the colour of a piece of music, thus changing the colour again should the music be transposed up or down. The whole video is a real joy. thank you

    Given that the six finger note is a B-flat at A415, it sounds like an A at A440…. and therefore this flute is basically of the same scale length as a modern alto flute! Though, of course, without the two bottom notes of the modern instrument. Imagine having to stretch that enormous distance with your fingers on a modern alto….

    • @MichaelLynnFlute
      @MichaelLynnFlute Před 2 měsíci

      of course one of the big advantages of the Boehm flute being that the mechanism allows the fingers to be closer together where on the simple system flute one has a fairly big reach even on a normal D flute.

    • @agogobell28

    How do you order this flute? I have a colleague who is interested in starting on baroque flute, but his youngest also is just starting college, so he does not want to spend a lot. I think this is an ideal way to start. I like the sound of these so much more than the Aulos (what is the Aulos even supposed to be, anyway?). I have also been thinking of ordering one. I like having synthetic instruments to practice on because the climate in my apartment is terrible in winter; I put my fragile wood instruments in climate-controlled storage. As far as I can see, Jeff doesn't have a website and I didn't see that sort of info on your website, Michael. Do let us know. Cheers!

    This is a wonderful flute, and a video I'm going to keep. Those upper notes have a very striking sound, sweet yet piercing, and I immediately thought of the sound of a Ziegler csakan. Would that be because of the cut of the embouchure hole?

    • @MichaelLynnFlute
      @MichaelLynnFlute Před 4 měsíci

      the flute does have an excellent embouchure hole but the tone quality is from the union of lots of different thing - the design of the bore, the material of the flute, the player, and other things. My experience with the csakan has been that they are rather soft although I have never played a Ziegler.

    • @DouglasBrooksDavies
      @DouglasBrooksDavies Před 4 měsíci

      I do realise that; but the timbre of your upper register is very similar in volume to that of original and reproduction Ziegler csakans I have heard, played by e.g. Tarasov. Just a thought.
