The Dimension-C also has a Waza version apparently! Also, there is supposed to be a 5th setting, by unselecting the buttons it still has a subtle chorus effect, but i'm not sure if its there on the old version of the pedal!

That Gibson Falcon amp he is talking about is the same circuit as the Epiphone Pathfinder (28rvt) from the same era. The Epiphone version can be had for half the price of the gibson most of the time. Epiphone Pathfinder has been my main amp for about 12 years. Also Tube Traynor Reverb Mates from the early 70's are cheap and great amps.

There is no doubt that almost all of its appeal is it's looks......

The PPG Wave 2 line is a definite trailblazer of the 80s. Although the first 2 chronological synthesizers to include digital oscillators and an analog filter were the EDP Wasp and the Fairlight, the Wave 2 was the first example of digital oscillators and a complete analog subtractive followup section in its architecture. In the wake of the 2.2, we were then graced with the different E-Mu Emulator (and Emax) models, the Ensoniq Mirage, ESQ-1 and SQ-80, the Korg DW-8000 and DSS-1 and the Sequential (Circuits) Prophet 2000/2002, Prophet 3000 and Prophet VS. Where the Fairlight may not have necessarily impacted the design of those other keyboards and synthesizers, the Wave 2 did.

I realize this is three years old. However, I want to point out that I read somewhere that John Lawry of the Joe English Band, and later Petra, was one of the first American musicians to purchase the second version of the Fairlight. Interesting enough, he was one of the only members of a gospel musical group to own one.

As of the spring of 2024 when I am commenting, I’ve come to the realization that I’ve got no interest in a synthesizer like the Jupiter 8. I got to analogue polyphonic synthesizers by Roland that came out only half a decade after this one did, the JX-8p and the MKS-70. The 70 in particular does everything a Jupiter 8 can do and some, and the money I had to lay out for it is a pittance compared with $30,000 USD for a Jupiter 8.

Love me some VHS but this would've been real great if the sound was recorded separately for the music segments. In keeping with the style; microfone to cassette would've been a fitting choice.

I record Digital about 90% of the time but I have my Teac A2340 4 track and my Teac A7010 on my patchbay and keep a reel of tape spooled at all times so I can do quick bounce outs. Sometimes I will just run through the 2 track preamps as an insert. I also have a DBX 155 Noise reduction that sucks for reducing noise but if you hit it too hard is a really cool way to crunch up a drum over head or bass line. Hybrid is the way.

I have heard many times that the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" and "Baba O'Riley" used an organ processed by Pete Townsend's ARP 2600, not a VCS3.

The Fairlight CMI also counts as the mother of all workstations. It was the original music composition computer. The software from the Mark II edition, Page R, should be given a medal for the first ever digital audio workstation program. One of the instances when I have wished that I had Apple Logic instead of Cubase was when I learned there was a virtual Fairlight engine available as a VST plug-in but that it was only compatible with Apple devices. I wonder if that has changed since it originally hit the instrument market.

I have commented a few times below uploads by RetroSpund that I made a mistake back in 2000. That mistake was not trying to purchase a different E-Mu synth/sampler hybrid, the Emax. 2000 would’ve been the ideal year to get that particular model in perfect working condition without needing to spend other people’s money for it.

Ever since I saw the cover art of this GREAT album, it reminded me of something and yesterday someone sent me a private message on the blue social media page (if I say it's name, my omment's gonna be deleted... how stupid!) saying he really likes my backing vocals on this: /watch?v=Wx3by7ZaaZA and thát's the moment it clicked for me! Okay, it's quite different at the same time, but those colours; etc... :) You'll know what I mean, hopefully. ;) ps. For my taste: guitars mixed a bit too loud at times, but that's just nitpicking from my side. I love all of your works! Matt, you're also working on a solo album, right?

Hi Matt, ;) Just a little question: I got a "new" Tascam 424 a couple of months back and my question is: if you'd only have the 424 instead of the 388 and wanted to record an album such as this, what would your approach be? It's only got four tracks, so... would you get an external mixer and record drums in stereo on two tracks, bass on track 3 and an SMPTE code onto the fourth, so you'd be able to sync it up with Logic, being able to erase tracks 1, 2 and 3 and record a premix of the bass and drums back onto track one from the DAW and record guitars and keyboard on track 2 and 3, recording it back into the DAW, still using the fourth track to be able to make it in sync with everything else you previoulsy recorded in the DAW? Then another premix back onto track 1, vocals on 2 and 3; etc; etc; etc? After that, mixing it in Logic using outboard effects; etc, back onto a decent Reel to Reel? Such a long question.... Just..... what would you do? Just out of curiosity! ;) Greetz

No. Just. No. You are conflating multiple developments, re the 340/380 and the 360.

you played wildly more aggressive and fretted badly on the 440Hz chords. Don't do that, it will all be ok. Your music rules in any tuning.

I actually played a new one of these in a band in the '80s. It was affordable, had presets and sounded okay. It's a good intro to how synths work since it's relatively simple to program, too. What more could you want?

Every time I do this I Stripe a Middle C tone across all the tracks at the top of the take for about 30 seconds as a tuning reference. Then I label the tape "High Speed Ref: Middle C". So if i ever respool the tape, I can plug in a guitar tuner and tune the tape speed to the correct middle C and make sure the speed is correct.

Love your commitment to the 388. I owned a M320b and a Tascam 38 for a while and loved the MSeries boards so much that I bought a M308 just to keep around for the Preamps and EQ. Just found your band while looking up Yamaha YC30s and I love the music. Hope your LP's get a repress cause they are all sold out. Cheers!

Yes sir. What you describe is exactly what happened to me in the weeks after my baptism (l was baptised at 53). I felt l had been reset, in ways l can't even begin to describe, put back to 'factory settings' as they used to say. A lot of the old (dark) stuff was simply not there anymore. It was a key moment (perhaps the key moment) in my life. I'm now 71.
