Affinity Designer Tutorial: Create a Tentacle & Distribute Suckers Along Path

This video shows how to create a simple tentacle, by modifying the stroke's "Profile" and how to add and distribute the suckers (or Suction Cups) along the tentacle. I was working on a design the other day that involved creating a tentacle with suckers. While the actual tentacle was straight forward, distributing the suckers took a bit of experimenting to get it the way I want. I decided to sha...
Affinity Designer Tutorial: Maintain Stroke Width and Layer's Name in Illustrator

In this video I show how to export in SVG format to Illustrator while maintaining the stroke width. Even though some of us switched completely to Affinity, in some cases you might need to export stuff back to Illustrator (on a client's request...etc). The advantage of using SVG instead of PDF is to keep the layers as you named them. However, if you use the default SVG export, the strokes might ...

    Another quicker way to achieve the "mirroring" than the one mentioned in this video: - Move the shape's anchor point to the guideline, then rotate it 180 degrees and flip vertically. *This also works with multiple shapes selected together.

    What I have done in past with text that I have rotated and sheared was to convert to curves then ungroup, click off, then select all the letters and regroup.

      It works but after that you can't edit the text again. Serif added a new option to set the selection box: - In the "Select" menu choose cycle selection to temporary reset the selection box. - Then in the same menu choose "set selection box" to permanently keep it in the new position.

    Hi Charbel, this does not work for me on a complex closed shape, just FYI! Still looking for a way to reset the bounding box on this shape. It's a shape I've subtracted from in several places. Even using intersect with a filled rectangle does not reset it. Very interesting.

    • @shiconotebook
      @shiconotebook Před 10 měsíci

      Hi Vectarr, sorry to hear that the first method is not working for you! I guess it could vary depending on the complexity of the shape. It looks like the only workaround is using the second method I mentioned in the video. By grouping the shape or creating a rectangle and putting the shape inside it. I do hope they will add a dedicated reset tool in future!

    • @Vectarr_
      @Vectarr_ Před 10 měsíci

      @@shiconotebook In hindsight I suspect it didn't work because I have switched to their V2 of their suite. Placing in a rectangle would work, however I found exporting to SVG takes objects out of the rectangle and applies a mask to the objects that were contained, which seems to affect the outermost bounding box (and what the program considers to be the object's dimensions). However, V2 has a shape builder tool. So the solution I now use very effectively is to simply re-create the offending object with the shape-builder tool. Its clone will have a straight bounding box. Thank you for the video! I hope you keep making them!
