Only mcguinn played on this because he was at their level, the rest of the byrds weren’t.

Ive always been amazed how only 2 guys singing can sound like 5 guys singing.

It's astounding to hear that the iconic bass riff at the intro didn't appear until Take 7 and how much it improved the song. Wikipedia credits Larry Knechtel as the bass player. McGuinn's playing through all those takes was flawless. Thanks so much for saving and posting these tapes.

Did anyone happen to salvage the tapes from Gary Puckett and the Union Gap 1967-70 when Columbia Records was discarding all these recording sessions back in 1989???Gary Puckett said they were under the control of Columbia and had to use The Wrecking Crew on their first two albums. Hal Blaine played on many of their hits including “Woman, Woman the first song Gary Puckett recorded for Columbia and Young Girl and many others!!

Does anybody know who is producing the session? I know that it isn't Brian, but he's giving instructions to the musicians the same way that Brian did on many of the Beach Boys sessions. Just curious. That bass slide at the beginning, man. 😘
