    that 1000yards shot is very impressive for the price of the rifle setup, i wonder if a ruger american chambered in .308 can hit at a 1000yards. Im thinking of buying a ruger american in .308 but im not sure of the capability.

    It can be easy to bind a budget rifle but I use a vortex 4x12x40 diamondback tactical on my Remington 700 adl stainless steel.. $400 in rifle and $150 scope.. i love both scopes but I put more money 💰 into a higher budget rifle scope and use leupold scope on it I used vx5 3x15x44 and paid $1000 scope on a $300 on a Remington 700 adl 300 win but I went over $1000 budget so any way you go on what you can buy I don’t care as long as you can put food on your plate 🍽️

    Good video. I got lost in the woods twice. The first time, I was just a kid and was upset about something when we were camping in the middle of the forest. I think it was around noon when my mom said to me, if you think you can find a better place to live, go ahead. The county sheriff came and got me at someone's house that night. I made my way to civilization but was lost for a long time before that. The second time I was small game hunting a few miles away in the same woods. I was walking down a trail road I knew and heard a partridge take off. I left the road, heading south toward the sound. I kept putting the partridge up but it was too far away to get a shot at, or even see. I crossed a creek during that time, and think I was heading S or SW. I turned around and headed back. I crossed a creek and kept walking but never got to the road. ??? I didn't know what was going on. I knew there was another road to the west, and if I kept going north or west I would hit one of them. What I didn't know was the the creek branched off and I was in between the branches of it, not between it and the road I was walking on. I don't know if I didn't have my compass on me, or I did but didn't trust it, and somehow ended up walking east all the way to Wurtsmith Air Force Base. When I saw the B-52 bombers on the side of the runway, THAT was a landmark I recognized. Then I had to head west down the road and north into the woods. If you've ever been stuck in the rain at night in the fall wearing nothing but a hunting jacket, you know how cold and miserable it can get. I ended up walking 30 miles by the time I got back to camp that night. A campfire and food in my belly never felt so good. I spent most of the next day sitting in a lawn chair because my legs hurt too much to move. TLDR version - Getting lost? I don't recommend it.

    • @UnionSportsmen
      @UnionSportsmen Před 3 měsíci

      Wow…covering 30 miles while lost is no joke. Glad you made it back in both instances!

    • @BigHarryBalzac
      @BigHarryBalzac Před 3 měsíci

      @@UnionSportsmen Thanks. The second time, I was used to walking 3 miles each way to high school and back, in 45 minutes if I didn't stop at the store. Walking 10 times as far in the woods, and having it take all day, feels like a lot more than it is. You already use more muscles, and more energy stepping over stuff, and there's no telling how far I walked in circles before I got to Wurtsmith. And I found out EVERYONE walks in a circle if they don't sight an object in the distance and walk toward it. One leg is a tiny bit shorter than the other one, so you take a little bit shorter stride, until you end up walking around in a great big circle.

    Got 1 of thoes in 30:06. 5 different ammos. Was printing 18 inch @ 100 yards. Sent it back TWICE & it never got any better. Never got reimbursed for shipping either. Finally traded it for a brake job warning the man it shot lousy. HE finally used its bbl as a grounding rod hammered into the ground for his generator. The LEAST Ruger could have done was replace the bbl. Their " 50 yard test targets" printed 2 an inch apart & the 3rd 4 inches low & 4 inches R..@ only 50 yards. They knew that unit was a POS & they never fixed the problem. Lost a lifetime fan for life. Their customer service sucks. Damn shame too. I bought 2 mini 14s when they 1st came out. Running serial #s. 1 shot 1 moa @ 100. The other was all over the place. Returned it. 2 weeks later it came back w a new stainless bull bbl & that unit put 5 in the same hole. But that was back when the old man was still running the company. Gone downhill since.

    . I agree with him on many things. One thing I do not agree about is the scope. Spend money on the scope. If you buy a Vortex and spend over $1000, they will guarantee the scope for life. That will save you money over time. Let me be more correct. This guy is not saying what is best, but what is budget. On that I agree.

      Long list before leopold gets my money Vortex does great for about 1/2 the cost of leupold. And after that i step up to Nightforce, US optics, even a UHD Vortex before leupold. Have several buddies that are fairly serious shooters and money not withstanding consideration….. a couple of them chose a top of the line vortex over schmidt and bender/steiner…. Other very expensive very nice glass I just use the appropriate night force ATACR optic for my build.

    I wonder if anyone has considered buying one of those rifles in 7.62x39? My buddy has a decent amount of components for them as in annealed unfired brass, fmj ,and quality primer. Those cases are the building nlocks for PPC stuff and his theory is the cist if the rifle is free becayse he already has the other stuff. It should be interesting to find out what accuracy he will get.Since he can set up the projectile closer to the lands on the first go, it could be better than one might expect.

    I just found this channel & video earlier this morning & was very impressed with the content. As a decent shooter with little long range experience I found it easy to understand & now I want to build one of my own. I am looking at Leupold's website & see a Freedom VX that is made specifically for the 6.5CM. Would this be a better scope to get for the caliber or would a more generic one suffice? I also just entered the contest so maybe my questions will be moot.

    Though manufacturing processes have become nearly foolproof I still witness mark ring caps to bases BEFORE separating. No chance of interchanging or flipping 180° out (they're line bored before caps/bases are split). Will also bed the rail to the receiver (if needed) and use blue Locktite on the screws AFTER degreasing . I ALWAYS check ring alignment with dowel rods (WHEELER kit) and lap for 80%+ contact if I deem necessary. SOP in the military was to torque in 3 steps to final value. Waiting 5 minutes and lightly rapping ring cap screws after torqueing (with the plastic handle of a screwdriver) removes "thread tension", then check final torque one last time. A little "extra" in the beginning goes a long way to preventing problems down the road.😊
