Railway catenary mast - wind tunnel test
Wind tunnel test of MÁV's (Hungarian State Railways') type T line catenary mast on 1:6 scale in the large Goettingen-type wind tunnel. Horizontal forces acting on the mast are measured using a 3-component force balance. The mast model can be rotated using a rotational table to any desired angle of attack.

Wind tunnel probe traversing : ground testing of X and Y axis

The 3D - probe traversing system is tested now outside the wind tunnel, before it is mounted in its final location in the wind tunnel's test section. The both stepper motors can move the axes X and Y smoothly and with high precision. Joystick control will enable easy positioning of measurement probes like hot-wire sensors, LDV optics, total pressure and concentration tubes and rakes.

Here we show the two horizontal axes of the wind tunnel traversing system. Its range is 5 x 3.5 m. In final position it will be mounted above the wind tunnel test section. Adding the vertical axis, it will allow accurate 3D probe positioning through the whole test section volume.
