*First things first, always wet your hands before touching the fish. Dry hands can remove the protective slime coating on the fish, making them more susceptible to infections.
*Gently cradle the fish under its belly, supporting its weight. For smaller fish, use your thumb and fingers to grasp it just behind the gills, but be careful not to squeeze too hard.
*For larger fish, use both hands. One hand should support the belly, and the other should hold just behind the head. This way, you’re distributing the weight evenly and avoiding any unnecessary pressure on the fish’s vital organs.
*Never hold a fish by the gills or eyes. These areas are extremely sensitive and can be easily damaged. Instead, focus on supporting the body.
