Question: What kind of device is used for switching the capacitors? Triggered spark gap? Some kind of tube or semiconductor? Contactor?

The wire exploded. Connect wire to PSU don't cause explosion, only rapid heating and vaporization of the wire, you can hear loudy snaps but it is only rapid vaporization. There is a difference
In normal electric detonators current is supplied in lower rate, the bridge may burn, maybe with deflagrating the ETN pellet, but will NOT cause detonation. In EBW system high pulse current cause explosion of the bridge and this create a shock-wave similar a blasting cap. For this reason the ETN detonated, even unconfined and small quantities

finalmente hai aperto il famoso EBW ! è davvero bello impicciato, mi supera alla grande... cmq ho risolto il problema del filo nella maniera più semplice ed ovvia :-)
scusa il mio disturbo, anch'io ho costruito un electric EBW initiator (ho 2 video in proposito), lo sto modificando e ne sto progettando un'altro molto + sofisticato e potente, ho un banco di 3 C da 2200uF 385V a basso ESR da mettere in serie; con 6 IGBT in parallelo che sopportano oltre 1.5kA (pulsati), lei pensa che potrei rischiare di romperli con un cavo da 1.5mm 30m e filo a ponte di rame da 0.1mm? comunque bel video complimenti !
