This started as a quick and dirty tutorial recorded for a friend to explain "Melodyning", a term me and my friends use to describe adjusting certain audio samples for use in YPTMV projects using the titular program. The editing of the video became in-depth enough that I figured I'd share it to the masses in hope someone finds it useful.
DISCLAIMER: I am not an expert YTPMVer by any means. There is undoubtedly a better, more efficient way to do this, and if you know how to identify notes by ear then it is almost entirely unnecessary. This is just what I find the most useful when creating projects.
Additional Notes:
- If you're using an older version of Melodyne then you may not be able to import mp4 files. You can still use the program, but you will need to render the sample as a wav first before importing it. I would still recommend just getting a newer version as it requires less steps and headache.
- Similarly, if you don't want to acquire a copy of Melodyne, you can use FL Studio instead. Import the audio sample, right click the waveform, and select "Edit in Pitch Corrector". From there set Center to max and Variation and Trans to 0, then once you've aligned the notes click "Send to Playlist".
- Depending on the sample it may sound weird when you align notes to a certain pitch. Experiment and see what works best. You may need to align different parts of the sample to a specific key in order for it to sound not terrible. I find aligning each word or syllable to its own key is a good compromise in this scenario but usually you can get away with aligning it all to the same pitch.
- As you can see in the video I label my sample after the key I aligned the notes to. I have trouble recognize notes by ear so this helps save me the headache of having to fumble around figuring it out. You can do this if you want, but like the disclaimer says if you can recognize these notes by yourself then it's not 100% necessary.
- The software used in this video is Vegas Pro 18 and Melodyne Studio 5. Aside from what was already mentioned about the latter there should be little difference in the process if you're using a different version. Also not going to tell you how to acquire the software, for obvious reasons.
