That's extremely clever...thank you for sharing !! Do you think the sand bag idea could be combined with safety release? Let say attaching the left back line and releasing the right front line so the kite flags out nicely?
Great video, I am very happy to see some options for self landing methodes with foil kites! Question, do you see this methode is better than the other video with the self landing stick?
Thank you for the video. But I do not understand why you use the sandbag and leash. I know you tried to explain it in the comments on a previous video but could you link me to a discussion where it is clearly explained why that is a good idea.
Pansh is a fraud! Don't buy it. Hear my story: I purchased a kite 15m Kestrel Pansh, 4 different lines broke after only 50 hours of riding it. The kite never fell to the water, and all broke in the air. Each line on a different day. I emailed them to send me new lines and said that I am willing to pay for it (even though it wasn't my fault), they ignored my email. I complained about it in the Pansh group in Kestrel, being low quality kite. Then I emailed them again with the screenshot of FB group of my complain, finally they answered really rude: "There is no problem with the white bridle. It won't break itself. Your statement is incorrect. We have never heard of anyone breaking the A bridles in the world, so we cannot send you the A bridles. This is the official and final response, and we will not reply to your question again. Thank you for your understanding. Rose Zhang " Then I made another purchase, because it was cheap but they terminated my account and banned me from the FB group. They refuse to refund my money saying I hurt their company. I opened a case on Paypal have to wait now 10 days and if not will ask my credit card company to reverse the transaction. Just wanted to warn you all from this shity company, with 0 support, shity quality kites, and committing frauds online.
Your LZ is like a highway😮
Sounds like a good, safe idea. I was researching self-landing methods for my upcoming Ram Air kite. You're a great guy. Thanks. Awesome!
Anyone could land a kite on a big open beach like that!
Yes, anyone. And then spend an hour picking apart knows and tangles because the kite pin wheels around. There are a lot of guys that don't like the backstall method, the side window emergency release method, etc., so options are provided by nice people like me, rather than sarcasm.
😂3knots in the air😂🎉
Clever method. But need to be careful of not touching the fabric with the hook.
avez-vous abandonné le piquet en forme de crochet attaché à un sac de sable? Have you ditched the hook-shaped stake attached to a sandbag?
Bonjour, votre façon d'atterrir une aile de 15m² par vent de 15mph m'intéresse, est-ce que la manille attachée à la ligne arrière peut être dangereux si le vent monte plus? Hello, your way of landing a 15m² wing in 15mph wind interests me, can the shackle attached to the backline be dangerous if the wind rises more?
its great. Thank you

Pipe ball guy. Thanks
Greetings ED when I saw you had recently subscribed to my CZcams channel. It left me wondering if this is Ed from Long Island that took Hang Gliding lessons with me a few moons ago? If so GREAT to see you again!
Ozone tampon with strings waste of time and money best kite for foiling is UFO v2 will out perform the ozone tampon in relaunching turning speed will drift just has well has a tampon here the best parts can stay on the water for hour waiting for the winds to come back your tampon will fill up like a water jug and when you want to take your water soaked tampon out of the water you will have rip the internal cloth valve in side the tampon or if you use your tampon in over powered condition tampon has to be adjusted continuously plus 2500 grand for a tampon I now use my ozone foils the right way has drop clothes in construction ozone foils are garbage. There inflatables are asome but they could do a lot better if ozone was putting a hundred percent in to there inflatables line if they weren’t so committed to there tampons kites that’s why now slingshot kites lead the way to in foiling
Love this band!! Go Hawks!!!
Amazing band!! Go Spruce Creek Hawks!!

At least something new about landing a foil kite alone. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for sharing these great ideas!
The idea of clipping a line is good but why haven't you chosen to clip a front line it would be safer? Is there any other reason? On a Ozone Control barre it is possible to chose a front line because the Y is not far away ... Thanks for sharing your idea of clipping a line with the combination of those poles in the sand!
*PromoSM* 😭
I've switched to this technique from another kiter: czcams.com/video/Jrjdc22eoCA/video.html however there has been some discussion about clipping a bungie leash to a buried sandbag, and the other end going to a carabiner clip that you clip to the rear line at your kite bar. Then walk backwayrds while keeping the line close to the sand bag. Once you get to the mixer pulley you let go of the bar but hold onto that one line and kite will just flag from that one point...without flipping cartwheeling and tangling. I'm going to work on it this week and post another video.

Just tried it out today with a buddy and it worked great. Blowing 25mph plus using an 8m kite. Instead of the sand bag we used a sand anchor that I have used for well over a decade to self launch and land my inflatables with 100% success. Really gonna make the self foil landings much easier. Tired of getting creative to not damage the kite or worse when alone. The anchor is a large diameter pvc pipe, i think 6" or so, could check. Take about an 18'-24" piece and split it in half down the length. Cut a point at one end, (used as a shovel to dig a trough to set it in), One hole in the middle, attach rope with a large carabiner here. Another hole near the end that is flat, no point. Attach another rope here. This is for easily pulling out the anchor when done. Your anchor has a built in shovel using the point end. Dig a trough, set it in, burry it. Easily pull it out with the back line when done. Works great.
This is the only technique that should be used for any foil kite imo. It's safer than self landing pulling on lines and using other objects to stop the kite, as all those can damage it not to mention the nest of lines you'll get. My only advice with this technique is to use a bigger bag for the sand especially when kiting in strong winds (don't want the whole setup to take off!), and KNOW THE DISTANCE between you and the kite. To avoid 2nd guessing, I have a mental note of how many broad steps there are between my kite and my chicken loop... count those steps from the tether before landing the kite and 100% you'll catch the hook every time.
With a strong wind - no chance...
Actually this is the best technique in strong winds. No other way to safely stop the kite from rolling, tangling and damaging it downwind on trees etc.
Can you get away without the sandbag if you stick the pipe far enough into the sand? Part of the appeal of your system is that you could just stick a post in the ground without digging a bag in as I usually do!

@@EDWARD_KOENIG_ARCHITECT I think I can picture it... but would love to see it in practice!
It'll yank right out. The problem with the new idea, with the pole by itself and shoved into the sand facing INTO the oncoming kite, is the samething. If your sand is hard pack and you can't get the pole into the sand too far, it'll fall over if the kite trailing edge or bridles don't hit it right. There is nothing more annoying than knocking it out, putting the kite back to 11oclock, gran the pipe and sticking it back in the ground, and doing it all over again. Same with the old idea and sandbag. It gets knocked down a lot. I was thinking of adding a horizontal brace to the hook idea so the whole thing could just sit flat on the beach with the hook going up vertical. But now we are getting into big contraptions that I don't feel like dragging to the beach....unless I'm driving on the beach with my truck....that idea is perfect for hardpack beaches. I'll update within the next 14 days with a new video.
Nice idea. Have built one. Can’t wait to try it bb
Thank's very much for this post.. I'm gonna make one. I hate landing my soul 15 on my own, which is why I don't use it very often..
What are the size in cm diametrer and long ?
Looking good Ed👍. Hope you get some time out today
I love it. I will build one for myself for sure. I am on foil kites for all winds under 25 mph and usually kiting alone, on a river with tight launch and landing sites. Your gadget sure looks great. Thanks for this video.
You are a genius 😁
Really cool idea. I kite frequently by myself and recently bought my first foil kite. I've been struggling to land it solo. I will try this in my next session. Thanks.
Sounds very clever, I must make one, that I will connect to a sand hook that I sometimes use for LEI kite when wind is very strong and gusty, mostly to take off, as landing alone with LEI kite is rather safe. This will be perfect for a 15m2 foil kite when wind suddenly picks up to 25+ kts and nobody is ready to help! 😎
Buddy, this is awesome!!
Very inventive!! I will have to try this one myself.
It may damage the brydles, or not ?
No problems all last year. I have a few Chinese Pansh kites with cheaper thinner bridles. So I'll be a little more leary with those kits. I tried a different method today, clipping a carabiner attached to a sand back, to the rear steering line and walking backwards until the carabiner gets to the the pulley/bridle. Someone else mentioned it but the kite still flops around a lot. I like my idea better but on a nuking day, the kite sometimes knocks over the hook and you have to reset it.

wrong conditions and it will damage something, including the kite.
Quite clever method :)
Great idea, will make me one when I get back home. Could have used it some times at abandoned beaches in Brazil during the past weeks
hello Edward, Nice idea and put together, in another video you show that you crochet the lines instead of the kite. To be honest, My hartbeat rises a lot when I see how the cloth is being crocheted off the kite. do you have a preference or do you not care. thanks for your response, grtz Jan

Like it a lot-will make one and give it a try
I tried that hook and it works great. I added a bit of bent flat bar inside the hook’s 45 degree section for extra strength. I often kite on my own and solo launching and landing is no longer a problem. Thank you for the invention.
Great idea. I will try that.
hmm nice
