    GENIUS Mikhail Pletnev understands the complexities under Chopin’s music as his fingers glider over the keys making it look so easy.. It’s much more than it looks on the page!

    Noone can play Chopin the Pletnev style like Pletnev!

  • @staffanolofsson8201

    He handles Chopin as if he were his old friend, (and perhaps he is), sometimes a little bit odd, as in 1:36:40. But I dont think Chopin will disagree about his playing.

    Intermission between 45:17 and 1:16:00.

  • @staffanolofsson8201

    The contrast between how Mikhail Pletnev is behaving as a pianist, and this very emotional music of Chopin is obvious. I like the contrast. The way to play Chopin is how it comes out, not the way it goes in. In this Mikhail Pletnev is a master.

    How I love Mikhail Pletnev for this, he comes in, he sits down and he play. Not much for the show, no extra moves, no extravaganca, no flirting with the public, no drama. Just music. Very rare these days. I call it the Pletnev style. So far this style is for me the best.

    Astonishing performance, far above all the noisy and superficial flashy playing that is so often heard in this concerto. I love the moderate tempo which allows a lot more to he heard both fir the piano and the orchestra. Some technical passages remain unequalled under M Pletnev' fingers. Excellent conducting by K.Nagano .

    I was a great admirer of M.Pletnev young and up to his fifities or so.I have all his recordings. He was then by far the most interesting pianist,with Leif Ove Andsnes. But sadly I must recognize that he is now and for some years only the shadow of the genius he was,both technically and on the musical aspect. In this performance , he plays almost everything mezzoforte or Forte. The Schubert sonata is not too bad but the Chopin préludes are just not good.

      @staffanolofsson8201 Před měsícem

      Thank you Phillip, we all have our feelings about music, and I respect your opinion. I have not followed Pletnev from his beginning, but as a late bloomer I love this interpretation. I have found he nowadays has a special way of playing, it is clear in the Preludes, but I have come to accept and love this a little special playing. His Preludes so becomes a very personal tribute.

    Before you read what I'm about to say, I am a HUGE Pletnev fan. I grew up with his (and Gavrilov's) astonishing recordings. I checked in and listened to the second concerto first. What is he doing? All the notes are there - he makes them look so easy and, as anyone who plays this work knows, they are not easy to play. But where is the excitement? The drive? The musicality? It is like watching a perfectly programmed robot go through the motions and play the notes with absolutely no feeling whatsoever. Pletnev is known for his cold impassive demeanor when playing but this is off the scale
