Nymphalis antiopa, Butterfly wing flap sounds !
What an incredible experience... just walking in the woods with my parabola while this Nymphalis antiopa came flying around me. And how interesting to hear the wings flap. Since the butterfly wasn't really avoiding me, quite the opposite, I made a recording of the wing flap sounds as it was flying over all the time. In the spectrogram you can clearly see the flaps of the wings, especially when making turns.
Recording made by Antonius Driessens, Durfort, south of France 25/05/2024.
Ravi de cet enregistrement du Morio, un bruit bien percible sans microphone. Ce papillon n'était pas du tout craintif comme on peut le constater dans cette vidéo.

Literally, this is a field recording, me recording the sounds along some fields. While it was windy, the insects were not bothered by the weaving grass and herbs. In the trees the nightingales sing all day and night during springtime. Recorded in Vézénobres, 05/05/2024

      I thought I was very lucky, but then I also realized this could be done in some sort of lab with butterflies locked in... in the name of science... It would not be the same memory, nor same ethics ;-)

      @@duuster-audio absolutely not. I recorded my first purple emporor on a bunch of poop, that contrast alone would not be the same in a sterile lab. Also it also seems in your video as if the butterfly regongnizes you as something it chooses to interact with. That magic can't happen in a little container. THough it is of course interesting for science too.

    • @duuster-audio
      @duuster-audio Před 2 měsíci

      in short I made a wooden box the size of a human head. On the sides I made holes, the size for the silicon ears. From inside the head I put in the em272 capsules towards the ear canal. I kept a good distance from the outside of the ears for better experience (most people put the mics too close to the outside of the ears, they need to more than 15mm inside). I filled the space in side the box with acoustic foam and that is basically it. Later on I added wind protection.

    "Field Recording" as it's best!😉 I remember the first time when I heard a nightingale. It was a very beautiful late evening in the north of Germany in the late spring. Everything was quiet and silent. Just some few noises from insects could be heard. The air was filled with scents from all of the plants and it was the perfect moment for an evening walk. There was only one bird singing and I immediately found out that I never heard it's voice. It was like every other being was silent just to listen to this ever changing song. It was nightingale that was singing for a partner to come. For me it was like a holy mess, something very uplifting and it was like a song to praise the glory of life. I will never forget this moment.

      bonjour, si vous venez de la France autant faire le circuit court et prendre les Earsight, fabrication française ! Ils sont très neutres et je préfère le cablage qui est plus robuste que chez les EM272. Les Earsight ont aussi un tube qui permet de les attacher dans des pinces standards. Sinon pour les autres caractéristiques c'est similaire, très peu de bruit propre, sensible, besoin de peu de gain. A ce prix on ne peut pas être déçu. Pour l'enregistreur des entrées XLR sont préférables, mais Pip fonctionne aussi bien sur.
