Just means it’s 100% fur and not any other product that’s all.
No, back when the X system was standardized the more Xs meant there was more beaver, now its just a marketing ploy for companies to say "Hey! Look! This hat is a high amount of Xs meaning it's high quality!" Stetson still makes very fine hats though.

I just received my Stetson Whippet Fedora via mail order. Was surprised how thin the brim is, like paper thin, and was wondering if that is the way it is supposed to be? I assumed the brim would be somewhat thicker.

I just received this hat and am really upset in that I have no information as to how much of the hat is beaver, how much is cashmere, why cashmere is even added, what the benefits of cashmere are, what grades os beaver and cashmere fur are used......to list the most concerning. 100x means nothing. It could mean 45% today and 35% during the morning shift tomorrow, if Stetson doesn't give the public a quantitative value. Let's say 100x represents a percentage. The Diamanté is 1000x. The Prsidente is 100x. So if Diamanté is is 100% beaver, of which it is not! then my $800 Presidente is 10% beaver.
I have been wondering about the same thing! So far I have not been able to find a chart that clearly explains what percentages of beaver are in a 100X 50X 25X etc. Have you tried to call the Stetson Factory for a clear answer? I was going to try and do that.

It really irritates me how people keep calling this a "Boss Of This Plains" hat. The BOP was the original hat manufactured by John B. Stetson and was a simple open crown flat brimmed hat. The hat pictured here is a modern design, NOT a Boss of the Plains.
