Port Moresby - Sogeri bananas

Don & Phil stop to buy some bananas at Sogeri, before beginning the afternoon drive to Ower's Corner.
Banksia serrata
zhlédnutí 1,8KPřed 15 lety
Banksia serrata growing on a footpath in Brisbane. This small tree flowers in November & seems to be more hardy than the similar shrub, Banksia aemula. Don't use fertilisers & water only long enough to get the plant established. Available from Fairhill Nursery, Yandina north of Brisbane. Or many other specialist native plant nurseries.
Port Moresby -Kokoda Track Hotel
zhlédnutí 1,1KPřed 15 lety
Phil & Don call into the Kokoda Track Hotel near Port Moresby, wondering if this is the same place as the old Rouna Hotel from the 1970's. The stopping point on the main Sogeri road is called the "Riverside Store". Accomodation is actually down a side road towards the Laloki River. We went down there to discover the WW2 drop tanks, featured on another CZcams video.

No red rooster
When we stayed there in 1977 it was called Kokoda Track/Trail Hotel. It was still the original buildings from WW2. And the roads weren't paved either
That was back in the early 1900s
My Father in Law was there in 1945 to 1946 with the 29th/46th Australian Infantry Battalion (AIF)
Wow! Thanks for sharing this..i love old Port Moresby.
I was 7years young at this time! Vivid memories of Rabaul I have. Migrated to Australia in 1971. Paradise it was.
What fantastic footage! Like many others, Rabaul is our heaven on earth. I grew up in Rabaul, I can even make out the house where we were living when the footage was taken. So many other sights just bring the memories flooding back. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing video
Everywhere u go always respect and friendly to local people..you will always be safe and better taken care of by the local..PNG is safe and friendly
Many super memories of my many years in Rabaul, my heaven on Earth.
I used to work for Dept Civil Aviation and 35 years after this movie was made, it was freely available amongst staff.
Thank you for sharing this. How did you come by it? Fabulous piece illustrative of a time and place, now gone preserved. The era circa '67 is particularly poignant.
what is the name of the song playing?I really need to know :)
It's called "Wind Spirit" by Bill Miller. You can search for it here on youtube as well. Thanks for the contact.

Ok thanks for the info Russell. P-38 it is from here on - unless someone else has got some better idea. Was that a US plane do you know? Or maybe Australian? EasyriderPY
Great video. Its amazing how different POM is to Jayapura over in west papua (Irian jaya). Even though they are both on the same island. Pom looks more like an Australian city.
@TheNov252008 Sadly, yes, I think its due to PNG being poor, on of the poorest on earth, just recently, the prime minister was caught using the government money for his own needs, he got kicked out and now he's in australia..
@bhatian technically no but i didnt see much that was threating to my safety while i lived there during my high school years. if you were to go there my suggestion would be to find some friends that know the country or make friends that are from there.
They could almost look like p-38 drop tanks. They have the same pointy end at the back.
@emusx "oh madam, not just any guns, home made guns, makes it even more illegal" :D, they live the free life but at the end of the day I'll see them in hell.......
@oliboy12 Bahahah, I know right, I live in England now, I should have made the most of my big ass house in PNG and now Im squashed into this 3 bedroom houses......I miss my old life, but then again this life is good, I moved into a new school and my friends studied Bougainville and the gold mines and they said their was still war and I kept on shouting in their faces that it was the rebels. I tell you, The Australian school system is good, this students are stupid........my teachers are stupid..
I used to live in Faulty towers hahaha Love that Place :)
hey now !! i lived in port moresby for long enough and no enough people there to say yes its dangerous , providing your a complete idiot and stroll around the streets as if your in australia or wherever, you will be safe if your carefull about where you go, do not walk around on your own, if your with a group you should be fine, the people there are a lot more freindly than a lot of places if you treat them with respect !!
