I didn't plan on the camera shake during the toms, but I think that it made for a cool effect. That camera is on my solid oak dresser, mounted on a tripod. Just shows you how much power is in an acoustic kit...

Does the mutes on the cymbol s cause any damage to the cymbol s like discoloration or black marks
No, not that I'm aware of, but if you're worried about blemishing brilliant finish cymbals, you can always remove them after use. I would contact Vic Virth.

It’s “medium” at best. You’re definitely going to feel the lack of rebound.

I got the family a traps a400 kit for Christmas. It's not too loud and we have no neighbours but I like to diy too. I had a oblong sheet of silicone in the kitchen - some baking accessory or other - I cut a few strips off and lay them over the toms. Worked a treat killing any resonance. Less effective on the snare so maybe I'll cut a bigger size for that. The traps kick already has a towel inside the skins and it's not very loud. I put some strips on my cymbals too and that also worked. I guess they are fairly real feel too as 90% of the skin is still useable. Probably wouldn't work so well on regular drums but ....maybe! You should do a comparison immediately while you are at each piece of the kit ie.. play the first tom with the mute on and then take the mute off. Take the crash cymbal and play with the mute on and then immediately take it off and play it
Bret Akins I had planned to do that, but this was my first video ever. I was holding my phone with one hand and hitting the kit with the other. I need to get a better camera setup and I will reshoot the video.

This is great. I love seeing people take up drums, but hate seeing them start with cheap cymbals! I've almost always had decent cymbals I bought used.

We've just bought meinl hcs after being let down on some xs20 S/h. The next one's we buy will be really good but everyone gotta start somewhere. This video is about mutes....I doubt your comment stacks up given the ......muting . .on ...display 🤟

Chip C, the high tom is good, the the the fist mid tom is sounds wierd, all after that is fine, but I'm pretty sure now that i watch it again it is just because you don't have recording mics, that stuff is hard on your $$$.

How does the bass drum pad stay in place?
JR Alliso there is a Velcro patch that attaches to the head and a Velcro patch on the pad.
JR Alliso after months of heavy play, I had to re glue the patch back onto the pad. Only drawback I've had.

Emus or Ambassadors are my next choice. These were my first non factory drum heads. Still experimenting.

Cool. Yeah u will get more tone. U can always take away with a bit of moongel or tape if u want.
I have Remo rings as my main overtone control, but if that's too much I also have the moongels.
Anything by Evans I'd recommend. Remo is good but they don't have that level 360 technology. That's where the heads sit perfectly on the bearing edge so you don't have to seat the heads yourself. Saves time and effort. Much easier to tune and improved resonance and tone.

Yes. My house has almost no insulation and I can play while others in the house are watching television, etc. Unless you are an extremely heavy hitter I do not see where there would be an issue unless you miss hit a cymbal pad.
So ... Can I play in apartment with this mute kit?

Music tempo and drumming are off ....maybe a sync issue making the video...
good work man, if this is beginner work you should have no problem pickin up the drums quickly. I do video let's plays of video games and also play drums and have one or two video's of me jammin, my recording's don't sound as clear as yours, but if you're interested give em a look, let me know what you think.
Thank you. Your skills far exceed me, man lol. Nice work! I think you said you were using an iphone to record so that could be the only difference in the sound quality. Using a GoPro Hero Silver 3+. It picks up everything really well. I know it's a little pricey, but you can put it anywhere and is a breeze to use.
